Relatively new and unanalysed photometric data-sets of the contact binary system YY Eri are presented. The light curves have been analysed using information limit optimization techniques, and the Binary Maker program of Bradstreet (1992).Comparison of the results allows insight into determinacy questions affecting the W UMa type of light curve, which relates to our general understanding of contact binaries. A limiting contact configuration cannot be ruled out on the basis of empirical data-analysis alone.Very careful analysis of the photospheric flux distribution over the surface of the Sun may help establish appropriate values of the gravity brightening parameter for cool dwarf stars. At present, however, empirical photometric information on contact binaries is non-discriminatory: i.e. alternative cosmogonies can find alternative support from available evidence. The implication is then for more and better observational data to allow better real independent parameter determination. 相似文献

New expressions for the fractional loss of light

have been derived in the simple forms of rapidly converging expansions to the series of Chebyshev polynomials, Jacobi polynomials, and Kopal'sJ-integrals. In these expansions, which are a supplement to those given by Kopal (1977b), variablesk andh occur in different products that simplify the numerical computation. The treatment follows the new definition of

which has been recently developed by Kopal (1977a). 相似文献

Kopal's new iterative method for analysing partially eclipsing binary light curves in the frequency domain has been put into a form suitable for applications, and explicit forms for basic expressions developed. To facilitate the computations in practice, the required newS

-integrals, have been extensively tabulated by making use of hypergeometric series. The automated method has been tested successfully on the light curves of Persei (Algol). Short information on the system and the revised sets of elements including a new determination of the limb-darkening coefficient in the ultraviolet have been presented. 相似文献

The UBV observations of a marginal contact system BX And obtained during 1987, 1989 and 1990 seasons at the Ankara University Observatory are presented. Based on all available light curves of the system we studied light curve variations, particularly at the extrema points. Time scale of the variations was found as short as a few cycles of the orbital revolution. Six new estimates of the minima times are given. Some indications are found that the system might be detached or semi-detached. 相似文献

The X-ray observations of Cyg X-1, covering a period of 3.8 years, by the All Sky Monitor (ASM) on board the Rossi X-ray Timing
Explorer (RXTE) were analysed to search for long periodicities. The periodicities in the original data were seen to be distorted
by the high/soft state and the failed state counts of the system, and thus the power spectra showed two unrealistic peaks
at 1608and 406 days. The ∼ 300 day modulation reported previously(e.g. Priedhorsky et al. 1983) is not confirmed by the present ASM data. Truncation of the high counts above 30 cnts/s partly eliminates the distortion
and reveals the true period of 150d in the power spectra. It is interesting that the high/soft state (HS) and the failed state transitions (FST) always occur
on the maximum phase of the150d cycle.

The practical procedures for the solutions of the elements of any eclipsing system in the frequency-domain have been described in a previous paper of this series (Kopal and Demircan, 1978, Paper XIV). The fundamental quantities from which we depart in quest of our solution are twog-functions defining by the momentsA
2m (see Equations (2.13)–(2.16) in Paper XIV, or Equations (3.2)–(3.6) in Paper XV: Demircan, 1978b). If we establish the observational values for these functions, they constitute two independent relations between the unknown parametersa andc
o, and can be numerically solved for them with the aid of the general expressions for the respective moments. However, the determinacy of these parameters depends on not only the accuracy of observations but also the employedg-functions. For better understanding of the geometrical determinacy of the eclipse parametersa andc
o, different combinations of the momentsA
2m have been worked out asg-functions. For the index 2m, the values between 0 and 6 were applied. It has been noted that the behaviour of these functions vary but very little with applied different combinations of the moments. A choice of the most convenient moments to obtain a good determinacy for the eclipse elements were discussed. In this connection, (i) them-dependence of the moments, and the errors in their observational values have been considered, (ii) different practical procedures for the solution of eclipse elements were introduced, and (iii) different type of moments were tested. 相似文献

We present photoelectricUBV observations of the suspected Caii emission line star HR 1176. A period analysis of the observations by using the method of Shell-Metzner failed to yield any true period which is probably due to (i) the large gaps in the observations, (ii) low-amplitude variation, and (iii) the nonconstancy of the period, or there may be no regular light variation. A visual inspection of the present observations shows no systematic or abrupt variability except some scatter. However, a long period eclipsing nature of HR 1176 cannot be ruled out by this observations. 相似文献
