The purpose of this work is to study empirically the patterns of size distribution of thermokarst lakes within lacustrine thermokarst plains. Investigations were performed at 16 sites with various geomorphological, geocryological, and physical geographical conditions (Kolyma Lowland, Western Siberia, Lena River valley, Alaska). The accordance of the distribution area with the lognormal and exponential laws, and the accordance of the average diameter distribution with the normal law have been tested; the tested laws of distribution resulted from previous investigations. The results have shown that the lognormal law of distribution of thermokarst lake areas is valid for the vast majority of cases, and the other types of distribution are inconsistent with empirical data. This evidence favors the development pattern for lacustrine thermokarst plains, when thermokarst processes started simultaneously and the rate of lake growth was proportional to the density of heat loss through the side surface. 相似文献

The estimation of the risk caused by hazardous geological processes is a common problem. The aim of this paper is to present
a method for solving problems involving a wide spectrum of diffuse exogenous geological processes, based on the mathematical
morphology of landscapes. Diffuse processes develop as random rounded sites within certain areas and include karstification,
subsidence, thermo-karstification and aeolian processes. Model assumptions take into consideration spatial and temporal randomness
of occurrence, independent growth under occasional conditions, and cessation of growth given a ‘stop factor’, with transformation
into degenerate sites. Based on these model assumptions, the following probabilities of impact by diffuse exogenous geological
processes are solved for analytically. Firstly, the probability of impact on engineering constructions of round shape given
the size of the diffuse processes and the known average impact risk; secondly, the probability of impact on small engineering
constructions (points); and lastly, the probability of impact on linear engineering constructions of specified length. The

This paper, the third in a series on the design, payloads, and operation of Soviet earth resource observation satellites [see MSRS, 1984, No. 4 and 1985, No. 1], describes the collection of supplemental sub-satellite information. More specifically, it outlines how the Soviets use satellite-synchronized aerial, ground, and water-borne sensors to gather auxiliary information used in the improvement of space imagery (data verification and correction, instrument calibration, etc.).
