The oceanic response to a typhoon in the East China Sea (ECS) was examined using thermal and current structures obtained from ocean surface drifters and a bottom-moored current profiler installed on the right side of the typhoon’s track. Typhoon Nari (2007) had strong winds as it passed the central region of the ECS. The thermal structure in the ECS responded to Typhoon Nari (2007) very quickly: the seasonal thermocline abruptly collapsed and the sea surface temperature dropped immediately by about 4°C after the typhoon passed. The strong vertical mixing and surface cooling caused by the typhoon resulted in a change in the thermal structure. Strong near-inertial oscillation occurred immediately after the typhoon passed and lasted for at least 4–5 days, during which a strong vertical current existed in the lower layer. Characteristics of the near-inertial internal oscillation were observed in the middle layer. The clockwise component of the inertial frequency was enhanced in the surface layer and at 63 m depth after the typhoon passed, with these layers almost perfectly out of phase. The vertical shear current was intensified by the interaction of the wind-driven current in the upper layer and the background semi-diurnal tidal current during the arrival of the typhoon, and also by the near-inertial internal oscillation after the typhoon passage. The strong near-inertial internal oscillation persisted without significant interfacial structure after the mixing of the thermocline, which could enhance the vertical mixing over several days. 相似文献

An accurate particle tracking method for a finite difference method model is developed using a constant acceleration method.
Being assumed constant temporal and spatial gradients, the new method permits temporal-spatial variability of particle velocity.
Test results in a solid rotating flow show that the new method has second-order accuracy. The performance of the new method
is compared with that of other methods; the first-order Euler forward method, and the second-order Euler predictorcorrector
method. The new method is the most efficient method among the three. It is more accurate and efficient than the other two. 相似文献

The vertical structure of the M2 tidal current in the Yellow Sea is analyzed from data acquired using an acoustic Doppler current profiler. The observed vertical
profiles of the M2 tidal current are decomposed into two rotating components of counter-clockwise and clockwise, and restructured using a simple
one-point model with a constant vertical eddy viscosity. The analyzed results show that the internal fictional effect dominates
the vertical structure of the tidal current in the bottom boundary layer. In the Yellow Sea, the effect of the bottom friction
reduces the current speed by about 20–40% and induces the bottom phase advance by about 15–50 minutes. In the shallower coastal
regions, the effects of bottom topography are more prominent on the vertical structure of tidal currents. The vertical profile
of the tidal current in summer, when the water column is strongly stratified, is disturbed near the pycnocline layer. The
stratification significantly influences the vertical shear and distinct seasonal variation of the tidal current. 相似文献

This study examined tidal modification and change in tidal currents caused by the construction of the Saemangeum dike, based
on field observations and a numerical model. The Saemangeum dike was completed in April 2006, enclosing an estuarine area
along the mid-western coast of South Korea. After closure of the dike, the tidal range outside the dike decreased slightly
but significantly, while the inside tidal range decreased drastically. The numerical model results show that the dike construction
has influenced tidal energy propagation and the tidal system in the Yellow Sea. The tidal current speed near the dike decreased
abruptly following closure of the dike, except in front of the sluice gates. Since completion of the dike, outflow water discharged
from the sluice gates has longer residence times due to the weakened tidal current; the change in the tidal current field
has also caused greater northward expansion of outflow water. The sluice gates release fresher water, which spreads over the
sea surface mainly by inertial momentum near the gate; this water is then gradually mixed with sea water farther from the
gate. The less saline, possibly more contaminated outflow impacts the marine environment near the Saemangeum dike. Controlling
the discharge and gate-opening timing can partially mitigate these impacts on the marine environment. 相似文献

The temporal and spatial variability of the Yellow Sea Cold Water Mass in the southeastern Yellow Sea, 2009-2011 总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0
The Yellow Sea Cold Water Mass(YSCWM) is one of the important water mass in the Yellow Sea(YS).It is distributed in the lower layer in the Yellow Sea central trough with the temperature less than 10 C and the salinity lower than 33.0.To understand the variability of the YSCWM,the hydrographic data obtained in April and August during 2009–2011 are analyzed in the southeastern Yellow Sea.In August 2011,relatively warm and saline water compared with that in 2009 and 2010 was detected in the lower layer in the Yellow Sea central area.Although the typhoon passed before the cruise, the salinity in the Yellow Sea central trough is much higher than the previous season. It means that the saline event cannot be explained by the typhoon but only by the intrusion of saline water during the previous winter. In April 2011,actually,warm and saline water(T >10 C,S >34) was observed in the deepest water depth of the southeastern area of the Yellow Sea.The wind data show that the northerly wind in 2011 winter is stronger than in 2009 and 2010 winter season. The strong northerly wind can trigger the intrusion of warm and saline Yellow Sea Warm Current. Therefore,it is proposed that the strong northerly wind in winter season leads to the intrusion of the Yellow Sea Warm Current into the Yellow Sea central trough and influenced a variability of the YSCWM in summer. 相似文献
