An important research direction in advancing higher spatial resolution and better accuracy in soil moisture remote sensing is the integration of active and passive microwave observations. In an effort to address this objective, an airborne instrument, the passive/active L-band sensor (PALS), was flown over two watersheds as part of the cloud and land surface interaction campaign (CLASIC) conducted in Oklahoma in 2007. Eleven flights were conducted over each watershed during the field campaign. Extensive ground observations (soil moisture, soil temperature, and vegetation) were made concurrent with the PALS measurements. Extremely wet conditions were encountered. As expected from previous research, the radiometer-based retrievals were better than the radar retrievals. The standard error of estimates (SEEs) of the retrieved soil moisture using only the PALS radiometer data were 0.048 m3/m3 for Fort Cobb (FC) and 0.067 m3/m3 for the Little Washita (LW) watershed. These errors were higher than typically observed, which is likely the result of the unusually high soil moisture and standing water conditions. The radar-only-based retrieval SEEs were 0.092 m3/m3 for FC and 0.079 m3/ m3 for LW. Radar retrievals in the FC domain were particularly poor due to the high vegetation water content of the agricultural fields. These results indicate the potential for estimating soil moisture for low-vegetation water content domains from radar observations using a simple vegetation model. Results also showed the compatibility between passive and active microwave observations and the potential for combining the two approaches.  相似文献

A multigroup, diffusion scheme is derived from the Boltzmann equation for efficient numerical computation of neutrino transport in a collapsing stellar core. This scheme treats all neutrino scattering processes correctly with a Legendre expansion of the scattering rates. Modifications of the diffusion coefficient and the addition of a flux limiter extend the applicability of the scheme to neutrino transparent regimes and improve the agreement of the solution in both opaque and transparent regimes with those obtained analytically for some test problems. In addition, a more accurate treatment of the neutrino flowAcross shock discontinuities is developed through a shock matching condition. The solutions given by this multigroup, flux-limited diffusion scheme are compared with those of a modifiedS N code.Supported in part by the National Science Foundation (Grant AST75-05012 and AST 77-17572).  相似文献

Earthquake-induced potential landslides are commonly estimated using landslide susceptibility maps. Nevertheless, the fault location is not identified and the ground motion caused by it is unavailable in the map. Thus, potential coseismic landslides for a specific fault motion-induced earthquake could not be predicted using the map. It is meaningful to incorporate the fault location and ground motion characteristics into the landslide predication model. A new method for a specific fault motion-induced coseismic landslide prediction model using GIS (Geographic Information System) is proposed herein. Location of mountain ridges, slope gradients over 45 o , PVGA (Peak Vertical Ground Accelerations) exceeded 0.15 g, and PHGA (Peak Horizontal Ground Accelerations) exceeded 0.25 g of slope units were representing locations that initiated landslides during the 1999 Chi-Chi earthquake in Taiwan. These coseismic landslide characteristics were used to identify areas where landslides occurred during Meishan fault motion-induced strong ground motions in Chiayi County in Taiwan. The strong ground motion (over 8 Gal in the database, 1 Gal = 0.01 m/s 2 , and 1 g = 981 Gal) characteristics were evaluated by the fault length, site distance to the fault, and topography, and their attenuation relations are presented in GIS. The results of the analysis show that coseismic landslide areas could be identified promptly using GIS. The earthquake intensity and focus depth have visible effects on ground motion. The shallower the focus depth, the larger the magnitude increase of the landslides. The GIS-based landslide predication method is valuable combining the geomorphic characteristics and ground motion attenuation relationships for a potential region landslide hazard assessment and in disaster mitigation planning.  相似文献

We derive an expression for the scattering functions for electron-neutrino and electronanti-neutrino Compton scattering in a form suitable for a numerical solution of the neutrino transfer equations. An analytical expression is given for the case of large electron degeneracy. The modification due to possible neutral currents is discussed.  相似文献

Boundary element method (BEM) is used to study wave pressure acting on a vertical quay, as well as the uplift forces on a submerged plate. The plate, placed in front of the quay, is bored with holes. The results are then compared with the case of a plate without any perforation.The results showed that: for q/h = 0.45, where q is the depth of submergence of the plate and h is water depth, wave pressure acting on the vertical quay is very similar for plates with or without borings. However, with q/h = 0.20, wave pressure on the quay is changed according to wave periods, widths of the plate, the distance of the plate away from the quay, as well as the ratio of the holes to the plates. Uplift forces exerted on the plate are indeed smaller for plates with borings than without, and decrease with increasing porous ratio. Furthermore, the uplift forces will be the same for the same porous ratios, regardless of these ratios being caused by a single or a double perforation.  相似文献

Expressions for the source and collision terms of the neutrino transport equation relevant to the neutrino transport supernova model are derived in the framework of the theory of neutral currents. In particular we study the capture and emission of neutrini (and anti-neutrini) by free nucleos, the inelastic scattering by free nucleons, the coherent scattering by nuclei, as well as the corresponding muonic processes.We also derive an analytical formula for the neutrino scatteringrate on electrons, valid for large electron degeneracy.  相似文献
