Abstract. Growth of the shallow-water gorgonian Lophogorgia ceratophyta was investigated in an infralittoral station located in La Spezia Gulf, Ligurian Sea. Mean annual height growth rate was estimated to be 2.57 cm · a-1. The fractal dimension of the colonies was found to gradually evolve in complexity, exhibiting a simpler branching pattern in younger specimens. The maintenance of a low, invariable ramification complexity as an optimal choice in managing relationships between water and the colony's living tissues is also discussed.  相似文献

Fabric and stable isotopic composition of a Holocene stalagmite (CR1) from a cave in northern Sicily record changes in paleorainfall in the early Holocene. High δ13C stable isotope values in the calcite deposited from ca. 8500 to ca. 7500 yr ago are interpreted as reflecting periods of high rainfall. The wet phase was interrupted by two periods of multi-century duration characterized by relatively cool and dry winters centered at ca. 8200 and ca. 7500 yr ago, highlighted by low δ13C and δ18O values. A high variability of δ13C values is recorded from ca. 7500 to ca. 6500 yr ago and indicates that the transition from a pluvial early Holocene to the present-day climate conditions was punctuated by decadal-scale periods of relatively dry winters. In northern Sicily, the traditional elements of the Neolithic appear at ca. 7700 yr ago. It is possible that changes in rainfall influenced the passage from hunter-gathering to farming and sheep-herding economies.  相似文献

We consider the problem of the applicability of KAM theorem to a realistic problem of three bodies. In the framework of the averaged dynamics over the fast angles for the Sun–Jupiter–Saturn system we can prove the perpetual stability of the orbit. The proof is based on semi-numerical algorithms requiring both explicit algebraic manipulations of series and analytical estimates. The proof is made rigorous by using interval arithmetics in order to control the numerical errors.  相似文献

A geochronological investigation of two rocks with an eclogitic assemblage (omphacite-garnet-quartz-rutile) from the High Himalaya using the Sm/Nd, Rb/Sr, U/Pb and Ar/Ar methods is presented here. The first three methods outline a cooling history from the time of peak metamorphism at 49±6 Ma recorded by Sm/Nd in garnet-clinopyroxene to the closure of Rb/Sr in phengite at 43±1 Ma and U/Pb in rutile at 39–40 Ma. The Sm/Nd isotopic system was fully equilibrated during eclogitization and has not been disturbed since; its mineral ages may date the peak metamorphic conditions (650±50°C at 13–18 kbar: Pognante and Spencer, 1991). The Ar/Ar data reveal the presence of substantial amounts of excess 40Ar in hornblende, and yield a statistically acceptable but geologically meaningless phengite plateau age of 81.4±0.2 Ma, inconsistent with Sm/Nd, Rb/Sr and U/Pb. This questions the use of such a chronometer for the dating of high-pressure assemblages. The results imply a Late Palaeocene or Early Eocene subduction of the northern Indian plate margin in NW Himalaya. The fact that eclogites are restricted to NW Himalaya may be the result of a peculiar p-T-t path associated with a high convergence rate during the first indentation, in contrast to the later and slow subduction in Central and Eastern Himalaya.  相似文献

The space/time evolution of the Umbria-Romagna-Marche domains of the northern Apennine Miocene foredeep is proposed. In this period, the turbidite siliciclastic sedimentation is represented mainly by the Miocene Marnoso-Arenacea Formation, which generally ends with mainly marly deposits. From the internal Apennine sectors (Umbria-Romagna domain) to the external Adriatic Margin (Marche domain) the siliciclastic succession overlies hemipelagic marly deposits (Schlier Formation). The whole depositional area can be considered as a single wide basin with depocenter or main sedimentation areas progressively migrating eastwards. This basin is characterized by some morphological highs which did not constitute real dams for the sedimentary flows (turbidity currents). Multiple feeding (arkose, litharenites, calcarenites) from different sources is related to palaeogeographical and palaeotectonic reorganization of the most internal, previously deformed, Apennine areas. The activation of the foredeep stage is marked by the beginning of the siliciclastic sedimentation (Late Burdigalian in the most internal sector). This sedimentation ends in the most external sector in the Early Messinian, pointing to a depositional cycle of about 9?C10?Ma. The diachronism of the base of the siliciclastic deposition proves to be almost 5?Ma. The syn-depositional compressional deformation, which shows a marked diachronism, affected the internal area of the foredeep in the Early-Middle Serravallian, and progressively migrated up to Late Miocene, involving more and more external sectors. The deformed siliciclastic sedimentary wedge constitutes an orogenic pile incorporated in the Apennine Chain, represented by different tectonic elements superimposed by means of NE-vergent thrusts. The main stratigraphic and tectonic events of the Toscana-Romagna-Marche Apennines are presented in a general framework, resulting also in a terminological revision.  相似文献

Sandy shores on the West coast of the North Adriatic Sea are extensively protected by different types of defence structures to prevent coastal erosion. Coastal defence schemes modify the hydrodynamic regime, the sediment structure and composition thus affecting the benthic assemblages. This study examines the effectiveness in detecting changes in soft bottom assemblages caused by coastal defence structures by using different levels of taxonomic resolution, polychaetes and/or bivalves as surrogates and different data transformations. A synoptic analyses of three datasets of subtidal benthic macrofauna used in studies aimed at assessing the impact of breakwaters along the North Adriatic coast has been done. Analyses of similarities and correlations between distance matrices were done using matrices with different levels of taxonomic resolution, and with polychaetes or bivalves data alone. Lentidium mediterraneum was the most abundant species in all datasets. Its abundance was not consistently related to the presence of defence structures. Moreover, distribution patterns of L. mediterraneum were masking the structure of the whole macrofaunal assemblages. Removal of L. mediterraneum from the datasets allowed the detection of changes in benthic assemblages due to coastal defences. Analyses on different levels of taxonomic resolution showed that the level of family maintained sufficient information to detect the impacts of coastal defence structures on benthic assemblages. Moreover, the outcomes depended on the transformation used. Patterns of distribution of bivalves, used as surrogates, showed low correlations with the patterns of the total macrofaunal species assemblages. Patterns of polychaetes, if identified to the species or genus level showed higher correlations with the whole dataset. However, the identification of polychaetes to species and genus level is as costly as the identification of all macrobenthic taxa at family level.This study provided additional evidences that taxonomic sufficiency is a useful tool in environmental monitoring, also in investigations on the impacts of coastal defence structures on subtidal macrofauna. The use of coarser taxonomic level, being time-efficient, would allow improving sampling designs of monitoring programs by increasing replication in space and time and by allowing long term monitoring studies.  相似文献

In the present paper a two-degree-of-freedom system is considered which allows the simulation of rigid blocks uplifting and sliding on frictional foundations; the monolateral constraint between block and base is schematized by means of a joint model, which allows the contact problem to be discretized. The joint model is governed by normal and shear constitutive laws, which have been derived by the phenomenological behaviour of stone blocks and rock joints, as given by rock mechanics. Furthermore, a numerical procedure has been developed in order to solve the non-linear equations governing the motion of the block-base system, and to analyse the dynamic response of this system under seismic excitation; particular attention has been paid to the influence of the vertical displacement on the slip response.  相似文献

The impact of predation by juvenile marbled gobies,Pomatoschistus marmoratus, on the meiobenthic harpacticoid copepodCanuella perplexa was investigated at a subtidal station located in a shallow-water, brackish embayment of the Po River delta, northern Italy, in summer and fall 1978. In august, predation mainly centered on adults, with a very large number of prey for each predator; the energy supplied by the harpacticoid is high enough to sustain, almost entirely, the gobies’ daily energy requirement. The situation is different in September and October, when the adult copepod population declines dramatically and predation is shifted to less energy-providing copepodites and marbled gobies sensibly widen their prey spectrum.C. perplexa showed alterations of biological parameters, such as clutch size and average brood size, to cope with such a heavy predation pressure.  相似文献

Summary Among the ophiolitic peridotites upwelled during the opening of the small Mesozoic Tethys, two groups have been recognized in the sector of the Western Alps: a) EO ultramafics (Mt. Civrari and Monviso) which are very depleted in easily fusible elements and followed a very high temperature (starting from 1300°C) decompressional trajectory; b) LA (Lanzo) and WO (Tour Real) ultramafics which are less depleted, followed decompression at slightly lower temperature (< 1200 °C) and might represent sections of shallower subcontinental mantle. The peridotites are associated with magmatic sequences showing affinities with N-MORB. These sequences derive from partial melting processes which left residua similar to the EO peridotites, but probably different from the LA-WO peridotites. These evidences demonstrate that small oceanic-type basins like the Mesozoic western Tethys are associated with MORB-type magmatism, but include mantle sections recording different steps in the evolution of the basin. Moreover these Tethys-like basins closed a few tens of m.y. after opening and their formation seems to be controlled by active tectonism and by local perturbations of large scale geodynamic processes.
Les péridotites ophiolitiques des Alpes occidentales: témoins de l'évolution d'un petit bassin de type oceanique dans la Téthys Mésozoique
Résumé Parmi les péridotites tectonitiques remontées dans la Téthys Mésozoique lors de son ouverture on reconnait dans le secteur des Alpes occidentales: a) des ultramafites appauvries en éléments incompatibles qui ont suivi une trajectoire décompressionale à tres haute température (1300 °C) (M. Civrari et Monviso: EO); b) des ultramafites moins appauvries qui ont suivi une trajectoire à plus basse température (< 1200 °C) et qui pourraient représenter des témoins de manteau sous-continental (Lanzo: LA; Tour Real: WO). Ces peridotites sont associées à des séries magmatiques à affinité de N-MORB. Les péridotites EO peuvent représenter les résidus de la fusion partielle qui a produit les séries magmatiques de type N-MORB, cela n'étant pas probablement possible pour les péridotites LA et WO. Bien que les séries magmatiques des petits bassins océaniques de la Tethys Mésozoique occidentale montrent en général des affinités MORB, les péridotites témoignent de differentes étapes d'évolution des bassins. De plus ces petits bassins ont été fermés quelques m.a. après leur ouverture et leur évolution semble liée à une tectonique tres active et à des perturbations locales des phénomènes géodynamiques à grande échelle.
