Cr-spinel bearing wehrlite rocks of Bangriposi are found within the multiply deformed metasedimentary rocks of Singhbhum Group belonging to North Singhbhum Mobile Belt of eastern India. Detailed mineralogical and geochemical studies reveal that these rocks have suffered a two-stage alteration involving a deeper level modal and cryptic metasomatism and a subsequent shallower depth pervasive hydrothermal alteration. Cryptic metasomatism is defined by elevated LREE contents of the wehrlite and its clinopyroxne grains. Metasomatism induced changes in the modal mineralogy of the rocks include the absence of primary orthopyroxene grains, presence of secondary diopside-phlogopite(now present as vermiculite) defining disequilibrium reaction textures and secondary orthopyroxene rims around serpentinized olivine. The mineralogical and geochemical changes due to the metasomatic event present a contrasting picture in regard to the metasomatic history of the rocks. Possible scenarios involving a single stage or multiple stage metasomatism events have been discussed while explaining the metasomatic reactions that took place. An attempt has been made to estimate the REE concentrations of the final equilibrating melt from REE contents of clinopyroxene grains of the wehrlite. The possibility of the LREE-enriched equilibrating melt of the wehrlite rocks(the deeper level metasomatic agent) being similar to residual melts from the E-MORB type parental melts of nearby gabbro suite has been ruled out by geochemical modeling. REE abundance patterns of several natural enriched melts have been compared with REE pattern of calculated LREE-enriched equilibrating melt of the wehrlite and most resemblance has been observed with calcic and potassic melts. It is therefore suggested that the Cr-spinel bearing wehrlite rocks of Bangriposi has been affected by a calcio-potassic melt in deeper level, prior to the shallow level serpentinization event.  相似文献

Syntectonic plutons emplaced in shallow crust often contain intermediate-to low-temperature deformation microstructures but lack a high-temperature, subsolidus deformation fabric, although the relict magmatic fabric is preserved. The Proterozoic Vellaturu granite emplaced at the eastern margin of the northern Nallamalai fold belt, south India during the late phase of regional deformation has a common occurrence of intermediate-to low-temperature deformation fabric, superimposed over magmatic fabric with an internally complex pattern. But high-T subsolidus deformation microstructure and fabric are absent in this pluton. The main crystal plastic deformation and fluid enhanced reaction softening was concentrated along the margin of the granite body. Resulting granite mylonites show Y-maximum c-axis fabric in completely recrystallized quartz ribbonds, dynamic recrystallization of perthites, and myrmekite indicative of fabric development under intermediate temperature (∼ 500–400°C). The weakly-deformed interior shows myrmekite, feldspar microfracturing and limited bulging recrystallization of quartz. The abundance of prism subgrain boundaries is indicative of continuing deformation through low-temperature (∼ 300°C). The relative rates of cooling influenced by advective heat transfer and deformation of the pluton seem to control the overall subsolidus fabric development. The rapid advective heat transfer from the interior in the early stages of subsolidus cooling was followed by slow cooling through intermediate temperature window as a well-developed phyllosilicate rich mylonitic skin around the granite body slowed down conductive heat loss. Low-T crystal plastic deformation of quartz was effected at a late stage of cooling and deformation of the shallow crustal granite body emplaced within the greenschist facies Nallamlai rocks.  相似文献

Monitoring the crop acreage and irrigation water requirements vis-a-vis irrigation water supplies is important to obtain a realistic view of the “irrigation potential” and “potential utilised”. Satellite data provides information on crop area and thereby net irrigation water requirements of crops. A pilot study was taken up in Mahendragarh distributary canal in Haryana State to estimate net irrigation water requirement of crops under 17 minors for kharif and rabi seasons of 1992–93 period using IRS-1B satellite geocoded FCC images. These water requirements, when analysed with canal and tubewell water supplies for crops, show largescale deficiencies in the irrigation command area.  相似文献

The Gondwana sediments comprising fine-grained shales, carbonaceous shales, sandstones and the coal horizon in borecore RT-4 (approximately 547.00m thick) from Tamra block, Raniganj Coalfield, Damodar Basin, are analyzed palynologically. Based on the distribution pattern of marker palynotaxa, two assemblage zones are identified. In the Barren Measures Formation, dominance of enveloping monosaccate (Densipollenites) along with striate bisaccate (Striatopodocarpites, Faunipollenites) pollen taxa, and the FAD’s of Kamthisaccites and Arcuatipollenites observed at 30.75, have equated this strata (30.75–227.80 m thick) with the Raniganj Formation of Late Permian in age. Downwards in the Barakar Formation, between 423.80–577.70 m depths, an abundance of non-striate (Scheuringipollenites) and striate (Faunipollenites and Striatopodocarpites) bisaccate pollen taxa is observed, that dates late Early Permian in age.  相似文献

The inelastic (design) spectra characterizing a seismic hazard are generally obtained by the scaling‐down of the elastic (design) spectra via a set of response modification factors. The component of these factors, which accounts for the ductility demand ratio, is known as the strength reduction factor (SRF), and the variation of this factor with initial period of the oscillator is called an SRF spectrum. This study considers scaling of the SRF spectrum in the case of an elasto‐plastic oscillator with strength and stiffness degradation characteristics. Two models are considered: one depending directly on the characterization of source and site parameters and the other depending on the normalized design spectrum characterization of the seismic hazard. The first model is the same as that proposed earlier by the second author, and is given in terms of earthquake magnitude, strong‐motion duration, predominant period, geological site conditions, ductility demand ratio, and ductility supply‐related parameter. The second model is a new model proposed here in terms of the normalized pseudo‐spectral acceleration values (to unit peak ground acceleration), ductility demand ratio and ductility supply‐related parameter. For each of these models, least‐square estimates of the coefficients are obtained through regression analyses of the data for 956 recorded accelerograms in western U.S.A. Parametric studies carried out with the help of these models confirm the dependence of SRFs on strong‐motion duration and earthquake magnitude besides predominant period and site conditions. It is also seen that degradation characteristics make a slight difference for high ductility demands and may lead to lower values of SRFs, unless the oscillators are very flexible. The shear strength reduction technique is becoming more and more popular to determine the factor-of-safety for geotechnical constructions, especially for slopes. At present, two in principal different procedures are used to apply the numerical shear strength reduction technique for materials characterised by non-linear failure envelopes, like the Hoek–Brown criterion. One procedure is based on the determination on local stress and strength values, whereas the other is based on a global linearization of the non-linear failure envelope. This article shortly describes and discusses these two different procedures and compares results for a broad spectrum of parameter constellations based on slope stability calculations. The local approach is physically more correct. The global approach can be considered as a first approximation. A comparison of both methods reveal that the global approach in comparison to the local approach, can leads to a deviation of up to 15?% in both directions. If one considers the local approach as the ‘correct’ one, depending on the parameters the results of the global approach can lie on the safe or unsafe site. The practical conclusion is that evaluation of slope stability using the global approach can result in uneconomic slope design or overestimation of safety margin. The use of the local approach instead of the global should be preferred. In case of small safety margins (e.g. 20?% or less) the use of the local approach is strictly recommended.  相似文献

Recent works suggest Proterozoic plate convergence along the southeastern margin of India which led to amalgamation of the high grade Eastern Ghats belt (EGB) and adjoining fold-and-thrust belts to the East Dhrawar craton. Two major thrusts namely the Vellikonda thrust at the western margin of the Nellore Schist belt (NSB) and the Maidukuru thrust at the western margin of the Nallamalai fold belt (NFB) accommodate significant upper crustal shortening, which is indicated by juxtaposition of geological terranes with distinct tectonostratigraphy, varying deformation intensity, structural styles and metamorphic grade. Kinematic analysis of structures and fabric of the fault zone rocks in these intracontinental thrust zones and the hanging wall and footwall rocks suggest spatially heterogeneous partitioning of strain into various combinations of E-W shortening, top-to-west shear on stratum parallel subhorizontal detachments or on easterly dipping thrusts, and a strike slip component. Although relatively less prominent than the other two components of the strain triangle, non-orthogonal slickenfibres associated with flexural slip folds and mylonitic foliation-stretching lineation orientation geometry within the arcuate NSB and NFB indicate left lateral strike slip subparallel to the overall N-S trend. On the whole an inclined transpression is inferred to have controlled the spatially heterogeneous development of thrust related fabric in the terrane between the Eastern Ghats belt south of the Godavari graben and the East Dharwar craton.  相似文献

Groundwater arsenic contamination and its health effects in India   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
During a 28-year field survey in India (1988–2016), groundwater arsenic contamination and its health effects were registered in the states of West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh in the Ganga River flood plain, and the states of Assam and Manipur in the flood plain of Brahamaputra and Imphal rivers. Groundwater of Rajnandgaon village in Chhattisgarh state, which is not in a flood plain, is also arsenic contaminated. More than 170,000 tubewell water samples from the affected states were analyzed and half of the samples had arsenic >10 μg/L (maximum concentration 3,700 μg/L). Chronic exposure to arsenic through drinking water causes various health problems, like dermal, neurological, reproductive and pregnancy effects, cardiovascular effects, diabetes mellitus, diseases of the respiratory and gastrointestinal systems, and cancers, typically involving the skin, lungs, liver, bladder, etc. About 4.5% of the 8,000 children from arsenic-affected villages of affected states were registered with mild to moderate arsenical skin lesions. In the preliminary survey, more than 10,000 patients were registered with different types of arsenic-related signs and symptoms, out of more than 100,000 people screened from affected states. Elevated levels of arsenic were also found in biological samples (urine, hair, nails) of the people living in affected states. The study reveals that the population who had severe arsenical skin lesions may suffer from multiple Bowens/cancers in the long term. Some unusual symptoms, such as burning sensation, skin itching and watering of eyes in the presence of sun light, were also noticed in arsenicosis patients.  相似文献

In the eastern part of the Indian shield covering Shinghbhum and adjoining districts of Bihar, occurs the fossil marginal basin which opened up during the early Proterozoic, flanked by Archaean continent to the south. Volcanism played a significant role in filling up the basin. The spine of the basin is occupied by a basaltic lava pile representing a narrow oceanic sector. BIF and possible marginal basin ophiolites are other significant members of the basin cover. The structural features and sedimentary history of the basin are characteristic for marginal basins in general. Identification of this marginal basin emphasises the role of plate tectonics in the evolution of the Indian Precambrian shield.
Zusammenfassung Im östlichen Teil des Indischen Schildes erscheint im Shinghbhum in Distrikt Bihar ein fossiles Randbecken, das sich im frühen Proterozoikum geöffnet hat und vom Archaischen Kontinent im Süden flankiert wurde. Vulkanismus spielte eine entscheidende Rolle bei der Füllung dieses Beckens. Das Zentrum des Beckens wird von einer Basaltlage eingenommen, die einen engen ozeanischen Bereich dokumentiert. BIF und Beckenophiolithe sind weitere charakteristische Teile der Füllung. Die tektonische Struktur und die sedimentäre Geschichte des Beckens sind für Randbeckenentwicklung typisch. Die Entdeckung dieses Beckens weist auf die Rolle der Plattentektonik bei der Entwicklung des Indischen Schildes im Präkambrium hin.

Résumé Dans le Shingbhum et les districts voisins du Bihar de la partie orientale du bouclier indien, apparaît un bassin marginal fossile qui s'est ouvert au cours du Protérozoïque inferieur, flanqué au nord par un continent archéen. Le volcanisme y a joué un rôle important en remplissant le bassin. Le centre du bassin est occupé par un empilement de laves basaltiques représentant un secteur océanique étroit. BIF et peut-être aussi des ophiolites de bassin marginal sont d'autres membres importants de la couverture de ce bassin. Les faits structuraux et l'histoire sédimentaire du bassin sont caractéristiques pour des bassins marginaux en général. L'identification de ce basin marginal met en relief le rôle de la tectonique de plaque dans l'évolution du bouclier précambrien indien.

Manipur State, with a population of 2.29 million, is one of the seven North-Eastern Hill states in India, and is severely affected by groundwater arsenic contamination. Manipur has nine districts out of which four are in Manipur Valley where 59% of the people live on 10% of the land. These four districts are all arsenic contaminated. We analysed water samples from 628 tubewells for arsenic out of an expected total 2,014 tubewells in the Manipur Valley. Analyzed samples, 63.3%, contained >10 μg/l of arsenic, 23.2% between 10 and 50 μg/l, and 40% >50 μg/l. The percentages of contaminated wells above 10 and 50 μg/l are higher than in other arsenic affected states and countries of the Ganga–Meghna–Brahmaputra (GMB) Plain. Unlike on the GMB plains, in Manipur there is no systematic relation between arsenic concentration and the depth of tubewells. The source of arsenic in GMB Plain is sediments derived from the Himalaya and surrounding mountains. North-Eastern Hill states were formed at late phase of Himalaya orogeny, and so it will be found in the future that groundwater arsenic contamination in the valleys of other North-Eastern Hill states. Arsenic contaminated aquifers in Manipur Valley are mainly located within the Newer Alluvium. In Manipur, the high rainfall and abundant surface water resources can be exploited to avoid repeating the mass arsenic poisoning that has occurred on the GMB plains.  相似文献
