We briefly describe an advanced 3D gas dynamical model developed for the simulation of theenvironment of active cometary nuclei.
The model canhandle realistic nucleus shapes and alternative physical models for the gas and dust production mechanism.The
inner gas coma structure is computed by solving self-consistently(a) near to the surface the Boltzman Equation(b) outside
of it, Euler or Navier-Stokes equations.The dust distribution is computed from multifluid ``zero-temperature' Euler equations,extrapolated
with the help of a Keplerian fountain model.The evolution of the coma during the nucleus orbital and spin motion,is computed
as a succession of quasi-steady solutions. Earlier versions of the model using simple,``paedagogic' nuclei have demonstrated
that the surface orographyand the surface inhomogeneity contribute similarly to structuring the near-nucleusgas and dust coma,casting
a shadow on the automatic attribution of such structures to ``active areas'.The model was recently applied to comet P/Halley,
for whichthe nucleus shape is available. In the companion paper of this volume,we show that most near-nucleus dust structuresobserved
during the 1986 Halley flybys are reproduced, assuming that the nucleus is strictly homogeneous. Here, we investigate the
effect of shape perturbations and homogeneityperturbations. We show that the near nucleus gas coma structure is robust vis-a-vissuch
effects. In particular, a random distribution of active and inactive areaswould not affect considerably this structure, suggesting that such areas,even if present, could not be easily identified on images

Previous studies have found inconsistent results regarding how wintertime conditions in the Bering Sea relate to variations in the North Pacific climate system. This problem is addressed through analysis of data from the NCEP/NCAR Reanalysis for the period 1950–2003. Composite patterns of sea-level pressure, 500 hPa geopotential heights, storm tracks and surface air temperature are presented for four situations: periods of strong Aleutian Low, weak Aleutian Low, warm Bering Sea air temperatures, and cold Bering Sea air temperatures. Winter temperatures in the Bering Sea are only marginally related to the strength of the Aleutian Low, and are much more sensitive to the position of the Aleutian Low and to variations in storm tracks. In particular, relatively warm temperatures are associated with either an enhanced storm track off the coast of Siberia, and hence anomalous southerly low-level flow, or an enhanced storm track entering the eastern Bering Sea from the southeast. These latter storms do not systematically affect the mean meridional winds, but rather serve to transport mild air of maritime origin over the Bering Sea. The leading indices for the North Pacific, such as the NP and PNA, are more representative of the patterns of tropospheric circulation and storm track anomalies associated with the strength of the Aleutian Low than patterns associated with warm and cold wintertime conditions in the Bering Sea. 相似文献

Abstract. Lermontovskoe tungsten skarn deposit in central Sikhote-Alin is concluded to have formed at 132 Ma in the Early Cretaceous, based on K-Ar age data for muscovite concentrates from high-grade scheelite ore and greisenized granite. Late Paleozoic limestone in Jurassic - early Early Cretaceous accretionary complexes was replaced during hydrothermal activity related to the Lermontovskoe granodiorite stock of reduced type. The ores, characterized by Mo-poor scheelite and Fe3+- poor mineral assemblages, indicate that this deposit is a reduced-type tungsten skarn (Sato, 1980, 1982), in accordance with the reduced nature of the granodiorite stock.

The magmatism began shortly after the accretionary tectonics ceased, suggesting an abrupt change of subduction system. Style of the Early Cretaceous magmatism and mineralization is significantly different between central Sikhote-Alin and Northeast Japan; reduced-type and oxidized-type, respectively. The different styles may reflect different tectonic environments; compressional and extensional, respectively. One widely used technique for the construction of equilibrium models of stellar disks is based on the Jeans equations and the moments of velocity distribution functions computed using these equations. Stellar disks constructed using this technique are shown to be “not entirely” in equilibrium. Our attempt to abandon the epicyclic approximation and the approximation of infinite isothermal layers, which are commonly adopted in this technique, failed to improve the situation substantially. We conclude that the main drawback of techniques based on the Jeans equations is that the system of equations employed is not closed and, therefore, requires adopting an essentially ad hoc additional closure condition. A new iterative approach to constructing equilibrium N-body models with a given density distribution is proposed. The main idea behind this approach is that a model is first constructed using some approximation method, and is then allowed to adjust to an equilibrium state with the specified density distribution—if necessary, with the required parameters of the velocity distribution remaining fixed in the process. This iterative approach was used to construct isotropic, spherically symmetric models and models of stellar disks embedded in an external potential. The numerical models constructed prove to be close to equilibrium. It is shown that the commonly adopted assumption that the profile of the radial-velocity dispersion is exponential may be wrong. The technique proposed can be applied to a wide range of problems involving the construction of models of stellar systems with various geometries. 相似文献

Paleomagnetic research in the Siberian area provides new data to derive models of relative horizontal movements and the process of amalgamation or consolidation of the Siberian plate. Comparison of the Apparent Polar Wander (APW) curves for different regions of Siberia show that there were several stages of plate consolidation, the most important of which belonged to Baikalian time (c. 520–800 Ma). The consolidation was complicated by rifting processes. There were six megaterrains in pre-Vendian times, which underwent differential horizontal displacements. The joining of the Altai-Sayan fold area and the North-East microplates and fold belts to the Siberian plate, and the separation of the Taimyr peninsula, were the main post-Baikalian events. The most complete geologic sections were studied in conjunction with radiometric age dating and related to the geochronological Precambrian time scale of the USSR. This has led to the discovery of a stratigraphic polarity bias in the early Riphean-Vendian interval. There were five polarity stages in this interval 200–240 Ma each. 相似文献
