A joint Soviet-Mongolian project of 1978-80 using space imagery for the mapping of Mongolia's natural resources is described. The novelty of using space photographs called for the development of new techniques. The remote sensing approach enabled the investigators to compile within a relatively short time a map of natural territorial complexes of Mongolia, distinguished by a high degree of detail, and to gain a new understanding about many aspects of the Mongolian Physical environment. The contributions of V. I. Lenin to Soviet cartography, as well as cartographic activity taking place as a direct result of his initiative, are reviewed. He decreed the organization of mapping services and his original and practical recommendations served as a basis for production of significant scientific maps and atlases which were effective tools in the organization and management of the Soviet economy and in educational institutions for many decades. Specific features of development of recreation geography in the USSR are, first of all — combination of the deliberate outstripping theoretical research based on the systems approach with the traditional techniques of field investigation of actual dhenomena, and second — combination of scientific activities with active interference into practical territorial organization of recreation of different groups of population. Development of recreation geography has influenced the other branches of geography, as well as the theory of project-design and architecture. Rapid growth of a new branch of science is considered as an illustration of high integrating potentialities of modern geography, which is now based not only on the empirical studies, but on the theoretical search as well. 相似文献

This paper examines the recent (1968–1981) developments in graphic models with particular reference to those used in recreational geography. The conclusion is that such models represent a powerful tool for studying and managing physical-human interactions within geosystems. 相似文献
