In this paper, numerical and analytical methods are used to evaluate the ultimate pullout capacity of a group of square anchor plates in row or square configurations, installed horizontally in dense sand. The elasto-plastic numerical study of square anchor plates is carried out using three-dimensional finite element analysis. The soil is modeled by an elasto-plastic model with a Mohr–Coulomb yield criterion. An analytical method based on a simplified three-dimensional failure mechanism is developed in this study. The interference effect is evaluated by group efficiency η, defined as the ratio of the ultimate pullout capacity of group of N anchor plates to that of a single isolated plate multiplied by number of plates. The variation of the group efficiency η was computed with respect to change in the spacing between plates. Results of the analyses show that the spacing between the plates, the internal friction angle of soil and the installation depth are the most important parameters influencing the group efficiency. New equations are developed in this study to evaluate the group efficiency of square anchor plates embedded horizontally in sand at shallow depth (H = 4B). The results obtained by numerical and analytical solutions are in excellent agreement.  相似文献

Hydromagnetic planetary waves propagating through a zonal flow and a transverse magnetic field both of which are sheared in the vertical direction are studied. It is found that the effect of the transverse magnetic field is to make planetary waves, which characteristically propagate westwards, propagate eastwards in both westerly and easterly zonal flows. It is also shown that at a critical level the rays are guided by the zonal flow only and that the waves are either attenuated or escalated by an exponential factor as they cross a critical level.  相似文献

Over-reflection of propagating hydromagnetic planetary-gravity waves incident on the current sheets of the helmet streamers and magnetic sectors of the solar corona is investigated.It is shown that over-reflection arises only if the wavenumbers, or the energy fluxes per unit mass, perpendicular to the current sheet of the incident and the transmitted waves in both cases are in opposite directions. The over-reflected waves then draw magnetic energy from the sun's field and communicate it to the interplanetary magnetic field.The National Center for Atmospheric Research is sponsored by the National Science Foundation.  相似文献

Arid to semi-arid regions are characterized by low levels of surface water and low annual precipitation (generally <350 mm/year). In such areas, groundwater must be used to meet all the needs of the population for water. As a consequence, careful management is required to ensure the sustainability of this scarce resource in response to the demands of urban centers, industry, agriculture, and tourism. The concept of the aquifer recharge rate is particularly useful in the quantification of these groundwater resources and can be used to form the basis of a decision support system. This study determined the potential recharge rate in the Haouz aquifer using a multi-criteria analysis that included both the major and minor factors influencing the rate of infiltration of water into the aquifer. The analysis was based on the use of a geographical information system supported by remote sensing techniques to develop thematic data layers. These layers were then used to describe the spatial variation of the factors influencing the recharge rate of the aquifer and were subsequently integrated and analyzed to derive the spatial distribution of the potential recharge. This approach was used to classify the Haouz Plain (Morocco) into three different zones with respect to the recharge rate, with recharge rates ranging from 3.5 to 18.2 %.  相似文献

It is shown that the discontinuous jump in the vertical wave energy flux of slow hydromagnetic-gravity waves, occurring at a critical level, which is accompanied by wave absorption, and the existence of a reflection point imply that slow waves are trapped in the solar atmosphere. Ambient-temperature environments in which dissolved silica and U(VI) are present may lack the conditions necessary to readily form crystalline uranyl-silicate phases; however amorphous phases, as defined by the absence of well-defined Bragg reflections in powder X-ray diffraction patterns, are kinetically favored when solution saturation levels are appropriate. Such amorphous uranyl-silicates may be related to the crystalline phases predicted to be thermodynamically stable and influence the mobility of U in the environment. To investigate amorphous uranyl-silicates and their relation to crystalline phases we precipitated solids from solutions containing 0.05 M UO2(ClO4)2 and 0.1 M Na2SiO3 adjusted to pH values from 2.2 to 9 and allowed the precipitates to age in their mother liquors for approximately 6 weeks at 22 °C. We compared the chemical composition, X-ray diffraction patterns, and Fourier transform infrared spectra of the precipitates to those of the crystalline phases predicted by thermodynamic modeling. The precipitates were amorphous with U:Si ratios of 0.8 ± 0.1. Their FTIR spectra revealed changes in the UO22+ and SiO44− vibrations as a function of pH that are consistent with a shift in mid-range structural linkages from those similar to soddyite to those more like Na-boltwoodite. Structural H2O, OH, and SiO3OH3− vibrations do not change as a function of pH and are consistent with a mixture of soddyite-like and Na-boltwoodite-like features. Six weeks of aging at ambient temperature is enough time for the precipitate structures to rearrange and adopt mid-range structural linkages characteristic of crystalline phases predicted by thermodynamic modeling.  相似文献

In the last decades a few attention was given to the evaluation of the bearing capacity of embedded footing under inclined loads on a frictional soil. This paper focuses on a numerical study using the finite-difference code Fast Lagrangian Analysis of Continua (FLAC), to evaluate the bearing capacity of embedded strip footing on a frictional soil. The soil is modeled by an elasto-plastic model with a Mohr–Coulomb yield criterion and associative flow rule; the effect of non-associativity of the soil on the bearing capacity is also investigated. The effect of the embedment is estimated though a depth factor, defined as a ratio of the bearing capacity of a strip footing at a depth D to that of a strip footing at the ground surface. The inclination effect is estimated by inclination factors, defined as the ratio of the limit vertical load for a footing under inclined loading to that of the vertically loaded footing. Both swipe and probe analyses were carried out to identify the vertical force–horizontal force (V–H) failure envelope. The results have been compared with those available in the literature.  相似文献

The behavior of retaining walls in geosynthetic reinforced soil is complex and requires studies and research to understand the mechanisms of rupture, the behavior of the reinforcements in the soil and the behavior of the main elements of the system: reinforcement-wall-soil. Several researches have been done on the use of geosynthetics as backfill massive reinforcement material (experimental studies, numerical analysis, reduced models …). This parametric study was conducted to investigate the influence of modular blocks type on the behavior of reinforced soil segmental walls. A 3.6 m high wall is composed of modular blocks of earth sand reinforced with four geogrid layers was modeled. The properties of materials, the wall geometry, and the boundary conditions will be explained later. The finite difference computer program FLAC3D was used in this study. The results of this numerical study allowed deducing the importance of this parameter. The type of modular blocks has significant effect to decrease the values of lateral displacements of the wall and decreased tensile stress values in the layers of geogrid.
