The Edgecumbe volcanics, which range from basalt through rhyodacite, have Sr contents between 125 and 370 p.p.m., Rb contents of1 to 70 p.p.m., Ba ranging from 50–550 p.p.m. and initial87Sr/86Sr ratios between 0.70291 and 0.70404. No simple correlationexists between these components and silica. The highest 87Sr/86Srvalues occur in a group of intermediate lavas (55–60 wt.per cent SiO2) while the rhyodacites have initial ratios between0.7035 and 0.7038. With increasing silica, Sr increases to amaximum in the andesites and then steadily decreases; Ba andRb increase over the same compositional range. The highest 87Sr/86Srlavas have major and trace element concentrations which departfrom trends defined by most of the lavas. The variation in strontiumisotopic compositions suggests interaction between parentalbasaltic magma and crustal material. Attempts to model the assimilationprocess using fixed end-member assimilation and assimilation-fractionalcrystallization models have failed to produce the observed chemicaltrends. Because the parental basaltic liquid underwent littlefractionation, the variability in hybrid lavas is attributedto variation in contaminant composition. Initial melts werelow in CaO, A12O3, MgO and Sr and enriched in SiO2. K2O, Na2O,Rb and Ba. As melting progressed, melts became enriched in themore refractory components. Because hybrid strontium isotopiccomposition is a function of Sr concentration as well as isotopiccompositions, the Sr content of the assimilant strongly influencesresultant isotopic systematics. The development of the assimilantssuggests plagioclase was a residual phase during early melting. This model of crustal assimilation represents one end-memberin the spectrum of processes responsible for the generationof continental volcanic suites.  相似文献

Correspondence analysis(CA)was applied to lakewater data in order to study the effects of acidicdeposition on the geochemical composition of lakes in the Adirondacks. The lake chemistry dataanalyzed were taken from the Eastern Lake Survey-Phase I(ELS-I)conducted by the U.S.Environmental Protection Agency.CA was used to identify‘outlying’lake samples as well as‘superfluous’and‘unresolved’analytes.Correlational relationship among analytes were also examined.  相似文献

In order to improve CO2 capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) to solve carbon emission, sandstone from the Triassic Liujiagou Formation (LF) from the Ordos Basin in China was investigated using permeability tests and computed X-ray tomography (CT) scanning. The presence of reactive minerals within the geological CO2 sequestration target storage formation can allow reaction with injected CO2, which changes the porosity and permeability of the LF beds, affecting storage effectiveness. To investigate the effect of chemical reactions on the pore structure and permeability of sandstone cores representing the LF CO2 storage, tests were conducted to analyze the changes in porosity and permeability of sandstone cores induced by CO2-saturated brine at different reaction times (28-day maximum reaction period). Porosity and permeability of the sandstone increased after reaction with CO2-saturated brine due to mineral dissolution. The sandstone exhibited an increase in porosity and permeability after 15 days of reaction with CO2-saturated brine. Moreover, there was an increase in the volume of large pores in the sandstone after the 28-day period. The pore network of the sandstone was established through CT results, and the porosity calculated based on the obtained pore network was close to that measured in the test, demonstrating the feasibility to use CT to study the evolution of the microstructure of sandstone after long-time exposure to CO2-saturated brine.  相似文献

Investigation of the palaeoclimatic conditions associated with Upper Jurassic strata in Portugal and comparison with published palaeoclimate reconstructions of the Upper Jurassic Morrison Formation in western North America provide important insights into the conditions that allowed two of the richest terrestrial faunas of this period to flourish. Geochemical analyses and observations of palaeosol morphology in the informally named Upper Jurassic Lourinhã formation of western Portugal indicate warm and wet palaeoclimatic conditions with strongly seasonal precipitation patterns. Palaeosol profiles are dominated by carbonate accumulations and abundant shrink‐swell (vertic) features that are both indicative of seasonal variation in moisture availability. The δ18OSMOW and δDSMOW values of phyllosilicates sampled from palaeosol profiles range from +22·4‰ to +22·7‰ and ?53·0‰ to ?37·3‰, respectively. These isotope values correspond to temperatures of formation between 32°C and 39°C ± 3°, with an average of 36°C, which suggest surface temperatures between 27°C and 34°C (average 31°C). On average, these surface temperature estimates are 1°C higher than the highest summer temperatures modelled for Late Jurassic Iberia using general circulation models. Elemental analysis of matrix material from palaeosol B‐horizons provides proxy (chemical index of alteration minus potassium) estimates of mean annual precipitation ranging from 766 to 1394 mm/year, with an average of approximately 1100 mm/year. Palaeoclimatic conditions during deposition of the Lourinhã formation are broadly similar to those inferred for the Morrison Formation, except somewhat wetter. Seasonal variation in moisture availability does not seem to have negatively impacted the ability of these environments to support rich and relatively abundant faunas. The similar climate between these two Late Jurassic terrestrial ecosystems is probably one of the factors which explains the similarity of their vertebrate faunas.  相似文献
