The proposed concept of the “marine coastal zone” (MCZ) is substantiated with considering the role of the neotectonics in
the formation and evolution of the corresponding morphologic system using the Antarctic Peninsula as an example. For this
purpose, the results of the immediate geologic-geomorphologic observations are correlated with an original schematic neotectonic
map compiled for the region in question. It is shown that neotectonic movements are responsible for the block structure of
the coastal zone representing its most stable element, which is complicated by subsequent regional exogenic coast-forming
processes with the glacial one being dominant. Other aspects of the marine coastal zone influenced by neotectonics are also
considered. A new (near-polar) type of the marine coastal zone is defined. 相似文献

Data on the geological and geomorphological structure and morpholithodynamics of the northern coasts of the South Georgia microcontinent allowed us to conclude that the Holocene sea level in this region did not exceed its present-day level, which was reached no later than 1000 years ago during the sea level rise after the previous global glaciation epoch. Microcontinents as structural elements of the Earth’s crust are favorable test areas for detailed study of the trends and rates of Holocene (including present-day) sea level fluctuations. This study exceeds the limits of regional research and will contribute to solving certain problems of global natural history. 相似文献

Cartographic neotectonic models have been created for the key areas of the coastal sea zone (CSZ) in the Western Arctic. These
areas were identified within platforms of different ages. The neotectonics predetermines the most durable component of the
CSZ, i.e., a wireframe with a fault block structure, and is one of the principal factors governing its development. In particular,
it manifests itself in the difference between the exodynamics of parts of the CSZ, with their morpholithodynamic boundaries
being similar to the structural aspect, their lithology being close, and the exposition to sea waves being the same. In predicting
the development of the CSZ in the 21st century, one can say that there is a reason for some concern, but not for panic. The
results of the investigations performed will assist in developing a more effective concept of shoreline protection and solving
other applied and scientific problems associated with the junction zone between land and sea. 相似文献
