--The earth's tectonic plates are strong, viscoelastic shells which make up the outermost part of a thermally convecting, predominantly viscous layer. Brittle failure of the lithosphere occurs when stresses are high. In order to build a realistic simulation of the planet's evolution, the complete viscoelastic/brittle convection system needs to be considered. A particle-in-cell finite element method is demonstrated which can simulate very large deformation viscoelasticity with a strain-dependent yield stress. This is applied to a plate-deformation problem. Numerical accuracy is demonstrated relative to analytic benchmarks, and the characteristics of the method are discussed.  相似文献

For civil engineering structures with a tightness role, structural permeability is a key issue. In this context, this paper presents a new proposition of a numerical modelling of leakage rate through a cracked concrete structure undergoing mode I cracking. The mechanical state of the material, considered in the framework of continuum mechanics based on finite element modelling, is described by means of the stress‐based nonlocal damage model which takes into account the stress state and provides realistic local mechanical fields. A semi‐discrete method based on the strong discontinuity approach to estimate crack opening is then considered in the post‐treatment phase. Using a Poiseuille's like relation, the coupling between the mechanical state of the material and its dry gas conductivity is performed. For validation purposes, an original experimental campaign is conducted on a dry concrete disc loaded in a splitting setup. During the loading, gas conductivity and digital image correlation analysis are performed. The comparison with the 3D experimental mechanical global response highlights the performance of the mechanical model. The comparison between crack openings measured by digital image correlation and estimated by the strong discontinuity method shows a good agreement. Finally, the results of the semi‐discrete approach coupled with the gas conductivity compared with experimental data show a good estimation of the structural conductivity. Consequently, if the mechanical problem is well modelled at the global scale, then the proposed approach provides good estimation of gas conductivity. Species of thyasirid bivalves are considered to be representative of early stages of chemosymbiosis, given that bacterial symbionts occur outside gill epithelial cells, vary among species in their abundance and nutritional importance, and are environmentally acquired. For these reasons, assessing the extent of host–symbiont specificity in thyasirids could provide valuable information on the evolution of chemosymbiosis. We show that individuals of two closely related and sympatric Thyasira cf. gouldi operational taxonomic units collected from three sites in a fjord in Newfoundland, Canada, associate with one of three distinct, closely related symbiont phylotypes. While associations show some site‐specificity, there is flexibility in host–symbiont pairings within the fjord, further supporting an early and relatively unspecific stage of chemosymbiosis in this family. Morphologic differences observed both within and among symbiont phylotypes suggest physiologic variation, possibly induced by small‐scale differences in sedimentary conditions.  相似文献

Organic carbon release by phytoplankton and bacterial reassimilation   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The release of organic carbon by phytoplankton and its reassimilation by bacteria were studied in Lake Geneva during four daily kinetics, using14C techniques. Gentamycin was used to suppress bacterial activity. Size fractionation was used to measure14C fixation in 2 particulate fractions (≥1 μm and 0.2 to 1 μm) and in a third fraction: dissolved organic carbon. Measurements of bacterial biomass and14C glucose uptake as the H14CO 3 uptake by samples prefractionated before incubation showed that the whole algae were retained on 1 μm pore size Nuclepore filters, but bacteria were retained on 1 μm and 0.2 μm filters. Concentration of 20 μg.ml−1 gentamycin resulted in incomplete bacterial inhibition while phytoplankton was affected. Phytoplankton released less of 20% of its photoassimilated carbon of which a large proportion was utilized by bacterioplankton.  相似文献

Resume Après de nombreuses années d’hésitation, on a finalement reconnu, au Congrès de Florence, en 1955, que dans le repérage des altitudes, seule la notion depotentiel était claire et sans ambigu?té, l’altitude au sens courant du terme étant conventionnelle. De la même fa?on, pour le repérage géométrique des points à la surface de la Terre, les coordonnées (X Y Z) des points, dans letrièdre cartésien terrestre général, sont les inconnues fondamentales; les coordonnées géodésiques couramment utilisées (longitude, latitude altitude H au-dessus de l’ellipso?de) sont conventionnelles. Mais pratiquement, afin d’écrire commodément les relations d’observation, il para?t intéressant de passer par l’intermédiaire detrièdres locaux (trièdres laplaciens), liés de fa?on invariable au système cartésien général, et de repérer toutes les grandeurs dans ces trièdres locaux. Toutes les observations utilisées en Géodésie s’expriment de fa?on simple et sans singularités dans ces trièdres locaux. La jonction des triangulations classiques, l’Astrogéodésie, la synthèse des Géodésies classique et spatiale sont facilitées. En astronomie de position, les grandeurs longitude, latitude, azimut, sont avantageusement remplacées par: déviation Est-Ouest, déviation Nord-Sud, azimut de Laplace. Les relations d’observation s’écrivent sans difficulté, même dans les régions polaires. L’application pratique des nouvelles formules obtenues a été réalisée avec succès par L.F. Gregerson (Service Géodésique du Canada).
Summary At Florence, in 1955, it was accepted that, in the problems of levelling, the notion ofpotential was scientifically clear, and that the altitude could derive from it only through a conventional process. In the same manner, when we want to have a geometric reference of the points at the earth surface, we use the coordinates (X Y Z) in thegeneral cartesian trihedron as fundamental unknowns, the geodetic coordinates (λϕH) deriving from (X Y Z) through a conventional process. Practically, in order to set up the observation equations, it is necessary to define local trihedrons (laplacian trihedrons), deriving from the cartesian general system through a fixed transformation, and to refer all the unknowns in these local trihedrons. All the observations used in Geodesy can be expressed simply and without any singularity in these local trihedrons. The links between classical geodetic nets, the astrogeodesy, the combination between classical and spatial geodesy, become easier. In astronomical controls, “longitude, latitude, azimut” must be replaced by: W-E deflection, N-S deflection and Laplace azimuth. Thus all the observation equations can be set, even in polar regions. A practical application of the new formulae was done successfully by L.F. Gregerson (Geodetic Survey of Canada).

Given the contrasting behaviour observed for geomaterials, for example, during landslides of the flow type, this contribution proposes an original constitutive model, which associates both an elasto‐plastic relation and a Bingham viscous law linked by a mechanical transition criterion. This last is defined as the second‐order work sign for each material point, which is a general criterion for divergence instabilities. Finite element method with Lagrangian integration points is chosen as a framework for implementing the new model because of its well‐known ability to deal with both solid and fluid behaviours in large deformation processes. A first boundary model considering a sample of initially stable soil, a slope and an obstacle is performed. The results show the power of the constitutive model because the consistent evolution of initiation, propagation and arrest of the mudflow is described. A parametric study is led on various plastic and viscous parameters to determine their influence on the flow development and arrest. Finally, forces against the obstacle are compared with good agreement with those of other authors for the same geometry and a pure viscous behaviour. Copyright © 2014 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Résumé On considère, dans ce travail, une goutte de solution au repos dans l'air ou entraînée avec l'air mais sans mouvement propre par rapport à celui-ci. Après avoir défini le système à étudier et montré que son évolution au cours d'une transformation adiabatique réversible est déterminée par une variable indépendante, on établit l'équation de cette transformation donnant la variation de la température du système en fonction de la pression atmosphérique.
Summary A drop of a solution is considered, which is without movement in the air or carried with the air without an own movement. This system is defined and it is shown that its evolution in the course of an adiabatic reversible transformation is determined by an independent variable. An equation of this transformation is drawn up which gives the variation of the temperature of the system as a function of the atmospheric pressure.

Zusammenfassung Es wird ein Lösungstropfen untersucht, der gegenüber der Luft im Ruhezustand ist oder ohne Eigenbewegung gegenüber der Luft von dieser mitgeführt wird. Das zu betrachtende System wird definiert und es wird gezeigt, daß seine Entwicklung im Laufe einer adiabatischen, reversiblen Umwandlung durch eine unabhängige Variable bestimmt wird; schließlich wird die Gleichung dieser Umwandlung aufgestellt, durch die die Temperaturänderung des Systems als Funktion des Luftdruckes ausgedrückt wird.
