This paper describes the performance of the Fully Depleted pn-junction CCD (pn-CCD) system, developed for ESA's XMM-satellite mission for soft x-ray imaging and spectroscopy in the single photon counting mode in the 100 eV to 10 keV photon range. The 58 mm x 60 mm large pn-CCD array, designed and fabricated at the Semiconductor Lab (Halbleiterlabor) of the Max-Planck-Institut, uses pn-junctions for registers and as backside structure. This concept naturally enables full depletion of the detector volume independent of the silicon wafer's resistivity and thickness, and as such make it an efficient detector for the x-ray region and the infrared. For high detection efficiency in the soft x-ray region and UV, an ultrathin pn-CCD backside deadlayer has been realized. Each pn-CCD-channel is equipped with its own on-chip JFET amplifier which, in combination with the CAMEX-amplifier and multiplexing chip, facilitates parallel readout and fast data rate: the cooled pn-CCD system can be read out at a data rate up to 3 MHz with an electronic noise floor of ENC < 5 e-.  相似文献

The Borborema Province, northeastern Brazil, occupies a central position in pre-drift reconstructions of western Gondwana, making an understanding of its geological evolution crucial for Neoproterozoic reconstructions. In recent years, it has been proposed that the Borborema Province grew by accretion of distinct tectonic terranes. In order to test this hypothesis, we compare here the geochemistry of orthogneisses and metasedimentary rocks across a proposed terrane boundary in the Central Domain of the province. Orthogneiss samples show smooth trends in Harker diagrams and similar rare earth element (REE) patterns, characterized by sharp decreases from La to Sm (chondrite-normalized La/Sm = 3–6) and flat heavy REE profiles (chondrite-normalized Tb/Yb = 1.5–2.5), with small or no Eu anomalies. In primitive mantle-normalized multi-element diagrams, all samples show parallel patterns characterized by sharp negative anomalies of U, Ta, Nb, P and Ti. The metasedimentary samples show little scatter of the major elements in Harker diagrams, suggesting that their chemistry was little affected by post-depositional diagenesis and metamorphism. They have indistinguishable chondrite-normalized REE patterns, characterized by light REE enrichment, flat heavy REE (normalized Tb/Y = 1–2) and small or no negative Eu anomalies, and similar ratios of immobile trace elements (e.g., Th/Sc, Zr/Sc). The geochemistry of the metasedimentary samples is comparable in many ways to those of the orthogneisses, suggesting that these may have been an important source of the precursor sedimentary rocks. These data do not support the terrane accretion hypothesis, rather suggesting the existence of a continuous basement that became available for erosion during intraplate continental extension in the late Neoproterozoic. Comparisons of the studied sequences with those present in the Northern Domain suggest that most, if not all of the Neoproterozoic geodynamic evolution of Borborema Province, occurred in an intracontinental setting.  相似文献

Granitic pebbles occurring in the Permotriassic metasedimentary sequence of eastern Papuk, Slavonian Mountains, Croatia, were recognized to represent a coherent group of felsic, muscovite-albite metagranites. Fabrics, modal compositions and geochemical data imply that the rocks are derivatives of S-type granites formed through a combination of igneous and subsequent metasomatic processes. A Variscan formation age is demonstrated by K-Ar dating on coarse muscovite (range of 329?C317?Ma) as well as by electron microprobe based Th-U-Pb monazite dating (338?±?15?Ma). Additionally to the Variscan metasomatic processes of albitization and greisenisation, which led to an almost complete replacement of K-feldspar and biotite by albite and coarse muscovite, pebbles were affected by a younger phase of alteration resulting in the formation of a fine-grained sericitic matrix. The fine sericite yields K-Ar ages of 91?C83?Ma. A substantial reheating of the rocks during the Cretaceous is also indicated by the growth of new monazite dated at 106?±?10?Ma. Yttrium-contents of the Cretaceous monazite from the granite pebbles (0.3?C0.9?wt% Y2O3) are compatible with metamorphic temperatures of ~350?C400°C. These data confirm recent concepts according to which large parts of the Slavonian Mountains received a pervasive Cretaceous low-T regional metamorphic overprint. Furthermore, the pebbles provide useful information on the nature of the eroded Variscan crust of the Tisia Terrain, which has obviously contained considerable amounts of evolved high-level S-type granites modified through albitization and greisenization.  相似文献

We calculated the expected impact on the Italian coast of the Adriatic Sea of a large set of tsunamis resulting from potential earthquakes generated by major fault zones. Our approach merges updated knowledge on the regional tectonics and scenario-like calculations of expected tsunami impact. We selected six elongated potential source zones. For each of them we determined a Maximum Credible Earthquake and the associated Typical Fault, described by its size, geometry and kinematics. We then let the Typical Fault float along strike of its parent source zone and simulated all tsunamis it could generate. Simulations are based on the solution of the nonlinear shallow water equations through a finite-difference technique. For each run we calculated the wavefields at specified simulation times and the maximum water height field (above mean sea level), then generated travel-time maps and maximum water height profiles along the target coastline. Maxima were also classified in a three-level code of expected tsunami threat. We found that the southern portion of Apulia facing Albania and the Gargano promontory are especially prone to the tsunami threat. We also found that some bathymetric features are crucial in determining the focalization-defocalization of tsunami energy. We suggest that our results be taken into account in the design of early-warning strategies.  相似文献

A total of 1125 specimens of sardine, Sardina pilchardus, ranging in total length from 4.9 to 12.5 cm (mean 8.31 ± 1.41 cm) and in weights between 1.02 g and 11.18 g (mean 4.40 ± 1.87 g) were randomly sampled using a beach seine from the Krka River estuary. Samples were collected monthly according to their occurrence in this area from October to February during 2002/03, 2003/04 and 2004/05, which is during the spawning period of this species. Monthly fluctuations in the length frequency distributions of sardine were observed during that time. The length–weight relationship of all sardine specimens was described by the equation: W=0.007L2.9587(r2 = 0.9626); and the isometric nature of relative growth was established (t = −5.1495; p < 0.05). According to the allometric condition factor Ka, sardine specimens were in better somatic condition at the beginning of their appearance (spawning period) in the Krka River estuary. The length at which 50% of sardines were mature (L50) was calculated to be 7.9 cm.  相似文献
