Comparing satellite data derived map products are affected by differences in data characteristics, image acquisition dates,
processing techniques, and classification schemes used for assigning pixels to a thematic class. By comparing two forest maps
generated from Landsat Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus (ETM+) and Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) images acquired
on the same day, and processed using identical classification scheme and methods these differences were minimized. The ETM+
derived map had higher classification accuracy values and more precise area estimates than the AVHRR derived map. In the ETM+
derived map, 87 of the 599 verification data were misclassified, whereas in the AVHRR derived map, 155 of the 469 verification
data were misclassified. Detailed error analyses by land cover class revealed that a land use based definition of forest accounted
for 74% (64 out of 87) and 57% (89 out of 155) of the classification errors in ETM+ and AVHRR derived maps, respectively. 相似文献

We studied textures and compositions of sulfide inclusions in unzoned Fe,Ni metal particles within CBa Gujba, CBa Weatherford, CBb HH 237, and CBb QUE 94411 in order to constrain formation conditions and secondary thermal histories on the CB parent body. Unzoned metal particles in all four chondrites have very similar metal and sulfide compositions. Metal particles contain different types of sulfides, which we categorize as: homogeneous low‐Cr sulfides composed of troilite, troilite‐containing exsolved daubreelite lamellae, arcuate sulfides that occur along metal grain boundaries, and shock‐melted sulfides composed of a mixture of troilite and Fe, Ni metal. Our model for formation proposes that the unzoned metal particles were initially metal droplets that formed from splashing by a partially molten impacting body. Sulfide inclusions later formed as a result of precipitation of excess S from solid metal at low temperatures, either during single stage cooling or during a reheating event by impacts. Sulfides containing exsolution lamellae record temperatures of ?600 °C, and irregular Fe‐FeS intergrowth textures suggest localized shock melting, both of which are indicative of heterogeneous heating by impact processes on the CB parent body. Our study shows that CBa and CBb chondrites formed in a similar environment, and also experienced similar secondary impact processing. 相似文献

Summary Observational studies indicate that the convective activity of the monsoon systems undergo intraseasonal variations with multi-week time scales. The zone of maximum monsoon convection exhibits substantial transient behavior with successive propagating from the North Indian Ocean to the heated continent. Over South Asia the zone achieves its maximum intensity. These propagations may extend over 3000 km in latitude and perhaps twice the distance in longitude and remain as coherent entities for periods greater than 2–3 weeks. Attempts to explain this phenomena using simple ocean-atmosphere models of the monsoon system had concluded that the interactive ground hydrology so modifies the total heating of the atmosphere that a steady state solution is not possible, thus promoting lateral propagation. That is, the ground hydrology forces the total heating of the atmosphere and the vertical velocity to be slightly out of phase, causing a migration of the convection towards the region of maximum heating. Whereas the lateral scale of the variations produced by the Webster (1983) model were essentially correct, they occurred at twice the frequency of the observed events and were formed near the coastal margin, rather than over the ocean.Webster's (1983) model used to pose the theories was deficient in a number of aspects. Particularly, both the ground moisture content and the thermal inertia of the model were severely underestimated. At the same time, the sea surface temperatures produced by the model between the equator and the model's land-sea boundary were far too cool. Both the atmosphere and the ocean model were modified to include a better hydrological cycle and ocean structure. The convective events produced by the modified model possessed the observed frequency and were generated well south of the coastline.The improved simulation of monsoon variability allowed the hydrological cycle feedback to be generalized. It was found that monsoon variability was constrained to lie within the bounds of a positive gradient of aconvective intensity potential (I). The function depends primarily on the surface temperature, the availability of moisture and the stability of the lower atmosphere which varies very slowly on the time scale of months. The oscillations of the monsoon perturb the mean convective intensity potential causing local enhancements of the gradient. These perturbations are caused by the hydrological feedbacks, discussed above, or by the modification of the air-sea fluxes caused by variations of the low level wind during convective events. The final result is the slow northward propagation of convection within an even slower convective regime. The ECMWF analyses show very similar behavior of the convective intensity potential. Although it is considered premature to use the model to conduct simulations of the African monsoon system, the ECMWF analysis indicates similar behavior in the convective intensity potential suggesting, at least, that the same processes control the low frequency structure of the African monsoon. The implications of the hypotheses on numerical weather prediction of monsoon phenomenon are discussed. 相似文献

The earliest decipherable record of the Dharwar tectonic province is left in the 3.3 Ga old gneissic pebbles in some conglomerates
of the Dharwar Group, in addition to the 3.3–3.4 Ga old gneisses in some areas. A sialic crust as the basement for Dharwar
sedimentation is also indicated by the presence of quartz schists and quartzites throughout the Dharwar succession. Clean
quartzites and orthoquartzite-carbonate association in the lower part of the Dharwar sequence point to relatively stable platform
and shelf conditions. This is succeeded by sedimentation in a rapidly subsiding trough as indicated by the turbidite-volcanic
rock association. Although conglomerates in some places point to an erosional surface at the contact between the gneisses
and the Dharwar supracrustal rocks, extensive remobilization of the basement during the deformation of the cover rocks has
largely blurred this interface. This has also resulted in accordant style and sequence of structures in the basement and cover
rocks in a major part of the Dharwar tectonic province. Isoclinal folds with attendant axial planar schistosity, coaxial open
folds, followed in turn by non-coaxial upright folds on axial planes striking nearly N-S, are decipherable both in the “basement”
gneisses and the schistose cover rocks. The imprint of this sequence of superposed deformation is registered in some of the
charnockitic terranes also, particularly in the Biligirirangan Hills, Shivasamudram and Arakalgud areas. The Closepet Granite,
with alignment of feldspar megacrysts parallel to the axial planes of the latest folds in the adjacent schistose rocks, together
with discrete veins of Closepet Granite affinity emplaced parallel to the axial planes of late folds in the Peninsular Gneiss
enclaves, suggest that this granite is late-tectonic with reference to the last deformation in the Dharwar tectonic province.
Enclaves of tonalite and migmatized amphibolite a few metres across, with a fabric athwart to and overprinted by the earliest
structures traceable in the supracrustal rocks as well as in a major part of the Peninsular Gneiss, point to at least one
deformation, an episode of migmatization and one metamorphic event preceding the first folding in the Dharwar sequence. This
record of pre-Dharwar deformation and metamorphism is corroborated also by the pebbles of gneisses and schists in the conglomerates
of the Dharwar Group.
Volcanic rocks within the Dharwar succession as well as some of the components of the Peninsular Gneiss give ages of about
3.0 Ga. A still younger age of about 2.6 Ga is recorded in some volcanic rocks of the Dharwar sequence, a part of the Peninsular
Gneiss, Closepet Granite and some charnockites. These, together with the 3.3 Ga old gneisses and 3.4 Ga old ages of zircons
in some charnockites, furnish evidence for three major thermal events during the 700 million year history of the Archaean
Dharwar tectonic province. 相似文献

A comparison is made between the unsteady parallel fracture model using the double porosity approach and the anisotropic
aquifer-water table aquitard system. The presence of a moving water table in the weathered zone (unconfined block), influenced
by recharge from rainfall or other sources and leakage to the fracture zone, is discussed. The effect of fracture skin on
the block-fracture interface is studied for both double-porosity and aquifer-water table aquitard systems. Typical type curves
are presented. It is found that the effect of both fracture skin and water table is to lead to a flat drawdown behaviour for
a large time. The applicability of the present model for parameters estimation is illustrated on a field pumping test of 7
days duration.
Résumé: Une comparaison a étéétablie entre le modèle de fractures non constamment parallèles utilisant l'approche de la double porosité et une système composé d'un aquifère anisotrope et un bloc de faible perméabilité avec une surface libre. La présence d'une surface libre variable dans la zone d'altération (bloc non captif), inflluencée par la recharge (pluie ou autre) et par l'écoulement vers la zone fracturée, est discutée. L'effet d'une conche superficielle à l'interface bloc-fracture est étudié pour les deux systèmes, celui à double porosité et celui composé d'un aquifère et d'un bloc de faible perméabilité. Des combes typiques sont montrées. Les résultats montrent que les effets d'une conche superficielle et de la surface de la nappe conduisent à une evolution constante en rabattement pour un temps long. L'application du modèle pour l'estimation des paramètres est justifiée par les résultats d'un pompage d'essai de 7 jours.相似文献

It is shown that time compression curve obtained from one-dimensional consolidation curve in the laboratory may include six
phases. These are initial compression, first primary compression, transition from first primary compression to second primary
compression, second primary compression, and transition from second primary compression to creep and lastly creep. This paper
attempts to identify the quantitative beginnings and characteristics of these phases. A mathematical characteristic of all
the soils that follow primary consolidation as per Terzaghi’s one dimensional consolidation theory is derived. It is known
as the constant of primary consolidation. It is used to study the beginning of secondary consolidation and its effects on
primary consolidation. Another characteristic of soils for creep and total absence of primary compression is derived. Methods

A meridional scanning OI 630.0-nm dayglow photometer was operated from Ahmedabad (17.2°N dip lat.) scanning a region towards the south in the upper atmosphere extending over \sim5° in latitude from 10.2°N to 15.2°N dip latitude. From the spatial and temporal variabilities of the dayglow intensity in the scanning region we show for the first time, evidence for the passage of the crest of the equatorial ionization anomaly (EIA) in the daytime by means of a ground-based optical technique. The relationship between the daytime eastward electric field over the dip equator in the same longitude zone as inferred from the equatorial electrojet strength and the evolutionary pattern of EIA is clearly demonstrated. The latter as inferred from the dayglow measurements is shown to be consistent with our present understanding of the electrodynamical processes in the equatorial region. The present results reveal the potential of this ground-based optical technique for the investigation of ionospheric/thermospheric phenomena with unprecedented spatial and temporal resolution. 相似文献

0 for the speckle data obtained from Kodaikanal Observatory (KO), Uttar Pradesh State Observatory (UPSO) and Udaipur Solar Observatory (USO). The average value of r
0 was found to be 3 cm at USO and UPSO during our observations. At KO, values of r
