The ultraviolet Earth radiance data from the backscatter ultraviolet experiment on Nimbus 4 have been inverted to infer ozone profiles using a single Rayleigh scattering model. Two methods of solution give essentially the same results. Comparison of these profiles with simultaneous rocket sounding data shows satisfactory agreement at low and middle latitudes.Vertical cross-sections of ozone mixing ratio along the orbital tracks indicate that while the gross characteristics of the ozone field above 10 mb are under photochemical control, the influence of atmospheric motions can be found up to the 4 mb level. 相似文献

The meteorological conditions at the earth's surface and aloft for the two research balloon nights of Project stratoprobe on 8 July and 22 July, 1974, are presented and discussed briefly. Trajectories of the balloon flights at float level are traced. The temperature and ozone profiles taken at Churchill before the launches and during the flights, which are necessary for the evaluation and interpretation of some of the experimental data, are also presented. 相似文献

Abstract Estimates of the entrainment rate of salt water into the Fraser River plume have been made using two independent methods. A value of k = 2 × 10 ‐4 is obtained for he entrainment coefficient relating the vertical to the horizontal velocity from salt conservation arguments at a series of profiles along the plume and from calculations of surface divergence, as measured by drifting drogues. It is also found that entrainment contributes significantly to the deceleration of the river plume after it issues into the Strait of Georgia. 相似文献
