Photoionization by stars cannot be the only cause for the diffuseionized gas component in the distant halos of galaxies.Quasistationary localized magnetic reconnection can efficientlycontribute to the ionization of the extraplanar halo gas. The gas isheated and re-ionized in numerous current filaments fast enough tocompensate recombination. The necessary magnetic energy is provided bythe disk activity. 相似文献

In the present project we investigate the evolution of a three-dimensional (3D), large-scale galactic magnetic field under the influence of gas flows in spiral arms and in the presence of dynamo action. Our principal goal is to check how the dynamical evolution of gaseous spiral arms affects the global magnetic field structure and to what extent our models could explain the observed spiral patterns of polarization B-vectors in nearby galaxies. A two-step scheme is used: the N-body simulations of a two-component, self-gravitating disk provide the time-dependent velocity fields which are then used as the input to solve the mean-field dynamo equations.
We found that the magnetic field is directly influenced by large-scale non-axisymmetric density wave flows yielding the magnetic field locally well-aligned with gaseous spiral arms in a manner similar to that discussed already by Otmianowska-Mazur et al. 1997. However, an additional field amplification, introduced by a non-zero -term in the dynamo equations, is required to cause a systematic increase of magnetic energy density against the diffusive losses. Our simulated magnetic fields are also used to construct the models of a high-frequency (Faraday rotation-free) polarized radio emission accounting for effects of projection and limited resolution, thus suitable for direct comparisons with observations. 相似文献

Large-scale galactic magnetic fields are probably caused by some magnetic field amplification mechanism starting from a seed field. This seed field is still enigmatic. In this contribution it is shown that macroscopic sheared relative velocities of the charged and neutral components of a protogalactic partially ionized plasma generate magnetic fields during the protogalactic collapse. Plasma-neutral gas fluid simulations are performed in order to illustrate this magnetic field-self generation mechanism. 相似文献

In this paper we demonstrate the importance of cosmic rays for the dynamics of the interstellar medium. We present the first
3D-MHD numerical simulations of the Parker instability triggered by cosmic rays accelerated in supernova remnants. We show
that in the presence of galactic rotation a net radial magnetic field is produced as a result of the cosmic ray injection.
This process provides a very efficient magnetic field amplification within the general frame of so called fast galactic dynamo proposed by Parker (1992).

In this paper we demonstrate the importance of cosmic rays for the dynamics of the interstellar medium. We present the first 3D-MHD numerical simulations of the Parker instability triggered by cosmic rays accelerated in randomly distributed supernova remnants. We show that in the presence of galactic rotation a net radial magnetic field is produced as a result of the cosmic ray injection and Coriolis force. This process provides a possibility of very efficient magnetic field amplification within the general frame of so called fast galactic dynamo proposed by Parker (1992). 相似文献

We performed cosmological, magnetohydrodynamical simulations to follow the evolution of magnetic fields in galaxy clusters, exploring the possibility that the origin of the magnetic seed fields is galactic outflows during the starburst phase of galactic evolution. To do this, we coupled a semi-analytical model for magnetized galactic winds as suggested by Bertone, Vogt & Enßlin to our cosmological simulation. We find that the strength and structure of magnetic fields observed in galaxy clusters are well reproduced for a wide range of model parameters for the magnetized, galactic winds and do only weakly depend on the exact magnetic structure within the assumed galactic outflows. Although the evolution of a primordial magnetic seed field shows no significant differences to that of galaxy cluster fields from previous studies, we find that the magnetic field pollution in the diffuse medium within filaments is below the level predicted by scenarios with pure primordial magnetic seed field. We therefore conclude that magnetized galactic outflows and their subsequent evolution within the intracluster medium can fully account for the observed magnetic fields in galaxy clusters. Our findings also suggest that measuring cosmological magnetic fields in low-density environments such as filaments is much more useful than observing cluster magnetic fields to infer their possible origin. 相似文献

The constant capacitance model, a chemical surface complexation model, was applied to selenite, Se(IV), adsorption on 36 soils selected for variation in soil chemical properties. The constant capacitance model was able to fit Se(IV) adsorption by optimizing one monodentate Se(IV) surface complexation constant and the surface protonation constant. A general regression model was developed for predicting these surface complexation constants for Se(IV) from easily measured soil chemical characteristics. These chemical properties were inorganic carbon content, organic carbon content, iron oxide content, aluminum oxide content, and surface area. The prediction equations were used to obtain values for the surface complexation constants for four additional soils, thereby providing a completely independent evaluation of the ability of the constant capacitance model to describe Se(IV) adsorption. The model’s ability to predict Se(IV) adsorption was quantitative on one soil and semi-quantitative on three soils. Incorporation of these prediction equations into chemical speciation-transport models will allow simulation of soil solution Se(IV) concentrations under diverse non-calcareous agricultural and environmental conditions without the requirement of soil specific adsorption data and subsequent parameter optimization. 相似文献
