The Georgia Basin–Puget Sound Lowland region of British Columbia (Canada) and Washington State (USA) presents a crucial test in environmental management due to its combination of abundant salmonid habitat, rapid population growth and urbanization, and multiple national jurisdictions. It is also hydrologically complex and heterogeneous, containing at least three streamflow regimes: pluvial (rainfall-driven winter freshet), nival (melt-driven summer freshet), and hybrid (both winter and summer freshets), reflecting differing elevation ranges within various watersheds. We performed bootstrapped composite analyses of river discharge, air temperature, and precipitation data to assess El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO) impacts upon annual hydrometeorological cycles across the study area. Canadian and American data were employed from a total of 21 hydrometric and four meteorological stations. The surface meteorological anomalies showed strong regional coherence. In contrast, the seasonal impacts of coherent modes of Pacific circulation variability were found to be fundamentally different between streamflow regimes. Thus, ENSO and PDO effects can vary from one stream to the next within this region, albeit in a systematic way. Furthermore, watershed glacial cover appeared to complicate such relationships locally; and an additional annual streamflow regime was identified that exhibits climatically driven non-linear phase transitions. The spatial heterogeneity of seasonal flow responses to climatic variability may have substantial implications to catchment-specific management and planning of water resources and hydroelectric power generation, and it may also have ecological consequences due to the matching or phase-locking of lotic and riparian biological activity and life cycles to the seasonal cycle. The results add to a growing body of literature suggesting that assessments of the streamflow impacts of ocean–atmosphere circulation modes must accommodate local hydrological characteristics and dynamics. 综合利用Photoshop、Geoway、MapInfo、ArcView等软件提供的处理技术,通过对扫描得到的地形、土地利用和水土流失等要素图进行图像剪切、拼接、配准、采样、跟踪、调整以及属性表的维护等一系列处理步骤,建立了大比例尺小流域地理空间框架数据集,提供了小流域空间框架数据采集与应用的技术流程与方法,提出应用各种软件进行大比例尺空间框架数据处理过程中应当注意的各种细节问题.最后,以闽南丘陵地区草子坝小流域为例,利用ArcView的3D Analyst、Spatial Analyst、Geoprocessing等扩展模块以及MapInfo SQL查询功能,对流域空间框架数据进行处理,得到了用于比较精细空间尺度上表达流域三维地形模型、坡度、坡向、河流垂直剖面、晕渲,不同高程上的土地利用类型等专题应用结果.  相似文献

将系统分析中的KJ法应用于新疆艾比湖流域生态环境的综合治理对策研究中。首先制作了59张包含与艾比湖生态环境治理相关的信息卡片,之后根据信息的亲近性将其分为5个大组,每个组内再进行细分,最后得到艾比湖流域生态环境问题综合治理的结构模型图,从管理体制建设和工程措施两方面归纳提炼出了具体治理对策。应用结果表明,KJ法能够充分体现群体的创造性思维并将之有序化,能很好地应用于包括生态系统在内的各种自然、社会、经济以及复合系统的综合集成研究中。  相似文献

地理信息科学的迅速发展为矿集区预测提供了新的理论依据,使地理信息理论、相应的技术方法组合及应用的整体研究成为可能。在大量理论和实验研究的基础上提出了基于地理信息元组的分类预测理论体系,该理论体系由六个概念、一个空间信息本质、两个空间信息特性以及六个空间信息相关方法和约定的构成。并在该理论体系基础上结合空间数据分析方法和探索式空间数据分析方法,建立了基于地理信息元组的分类预测模型。应用该模型在中亚区域实现了Au矿集区预测目标。为中亚成矿域中其它区域(如新疆)的矿集区预测研究奠定了理论与方法论基础。  相似文献

应用流域分布式水文模型SWAT,综合利用泰森多边形法、土壤粒径的线性变换、土地利用编码的转换等方法以及子流域和水文响应单元(HRU)的适当划分,对闽东南沿海西溪流域1970~1975年的年、月径流进行模拟,以月径流模拟的效率系数、相对误差和相关系数3个指标为标准,对模型的敏感参数进行率定,并对1976~1979年的月径流进行验证模拟.研究结果表明该模型适用于晋江西溪流域的径流模拟,且精度较高,尤其是降水量大,产流量多的月份模拟效率更高.  相似文献

A common feature of watershed urbanization is increased hydrograph ‘flashiness,’ whereby river discharge fluctuations grow more erratic. Such changes might be intuitively interpreted as a decrease in watershed-scale hydrologic system memory. Here, I investigate this hypothesis through a paired-catchment experiment. The serial correlation coefficient, a common metric of short-term time series memory, is applied to daily winter streamflow data from urbanizing and rural watersheds in the Puget Sound lowland of Washington State, USA. Statistical comparisons confirm that this metric shows highly significant decreases over time in the catchment undergoing land use change, but not in the control watershed, which remains rural over the hydrometric record. Moreover, the mean serial correlation coefficients are statistically indistinguishable between the two catchments over the early period of record, when both watersheds are largely rural, whereas the system memory is far weaker in the urbanized stream relative to the rural stream over the late period, following land use change in the former. The results appear readily interpretable in terms of the physical hydrologic changes typically associated with urbanization. The serial correlation coefficient thus appears to be an instructive measure of urbanization impacts for small streams in this region.  相似文献

基于GIS平台,建立了数字乌江流域。在此基础上,选择5个典型子流域,利用流域1956-2000年的降雨和水文资料及流域2000年土地利用数据,分别计算5个子流域的年均降雨量、年均地表径流量和土地利用百分比;用多元回归分析工具建立流域年均地表径流量与年均降雨量和土地利用百分比之间的关系式,得到不同土地利用方式下的降雨径流模型;通过实测资料对模型进行验证的结果表明,模型模拟精度较高,相对误差在7%以内。  相似文献

Earth observation from active microwave satellites such as RADARSAT-1 is an excellent tool to monitor and forecast floods. Two complementary approaches are described in this paper: (a) real time or near-real time monitoring of flood extent and (b) mapping of hydrological properties of drainage basins. Since it can penetrate through clouds, which usually occur during precipitation periods, and due to the fact that it can be programmed with different incidence angles, RADARSAT-1 enables frequent coverage over specific areas of interest. It has been used successfully to monitor a major flood of the Red River in Manitoba in 1997, by providing frequent coverage of the flood during its progression and decrease. Resulting data and images have been useful in planning the emergency measures and in assessing flood damage. RADARSAT has also the ability to characterize hydrological properties of watersheds. It has been used in agricultural catchments in Europe for mapping soil surface roughness, which affects runoff coefficients, concentration time and resistance to erosion processes. Used to complement optical data, RADARSAT has provided information on the status of land use and soil protective cover in drainage basins. This information can then be translated into parameters and coefficients that hydrological models can use for runoff and flood forecasting  相似文献
