Field Work in the Classroom

To make sense of spatial data, information and concepts strong geographic literacy skills are a prerequisite, yet existing studies suggest a global decline in these skills. Current geographic tools predominantly focus on mapping tasks that do not necessarily lead to an understanding of the broader geographic relevance of location. This article argues that in order to improve geographic literacy exercises should test an understanding of location and employ techniques to correct deficiencies. To support this argument this study offers evidence on the effectiveness of online quizzes in improving geographic literacy skills of first-year undergraduate geography students.     

制度演进与城市旧城区更新活动的实证研究——以武汉市汉正街为例

改革开放以来我国城市旧城区进行了若干次大规模的旧城更新活动,以武汉市汉正街为实证对象,将其更新活动分为3个阶段展开研究,总结分析各阶段国家权力结构调整、土地有偿制度深化和住房制度改革等社会制度环境的变化特征,探讨了社会制度发展在解决旧城问题上所发挥的作用及存在问题。结果表明:制度环境的变迁使旧城更新成为制度容易缺失的领域;制度目标的更迭使旧城更新渐成为公共领域与私人领域的利益争夺舞台;旧城更新的发展过程本质上是公权力与私权利交织的结果。     

Finding the Southern Part of Cyberspace: Using the Internet to Teach the South

Abstract

This article suggests how teachers can approach the Internet conceptually and use it practically as they teach about the American South. Because of its information, communication, and cultural dimensions, the Internet represents a “place” where students and teachers can appraise the South from multiple, alternative perspectives. The article offers lesson strategies and resources for both on-computer and off-computer classroom settings. By finding the southern part of cyberspace, the authors illustrate that regions can and do have a place in a medium often represented as spaceless and devoid of geographic boundaries.     

Geography in Alaska: Holding the Standards High

Abstract

In 1992, the State of Alaska Department of Education embarked on a standards-writing process as part of its Alaska 2000 reform effort. Supported by a Frameworks Grant from the U.S. Department of Education, standards were written in geography, government/civics, and history during 1993 and 1994. This article highlights an extensive statewide public consensus process used to generate the Alaska 2000 Geography Standards, which were modeled after Geography for Life: National Geographic Standards 1994.     

Reform of Teacher Education: An Opportunity for Geographers

Abstract

This paper focuses on the context and major efforts designed to reform teacher education in the nation's universities. An overview of systems governing and impacting teacher education is provided, with focus on the issues and conflicting forces that form the context within which teacher education-and geography education—find themselves. The paper concludes with a discussion of general trends in education reform and renewal and leadership opportunities open to geographers.     

基于网络分析的区域铁路公司建构方法与实证

区域铁路公司是铁路运输市场组织的重要模式之一, 也是铁路改革中的焦点问题之一。 基于经济地理学功能区(结节区)的网络分析方法, 对1991～2005年我国城际铁路货流的空 间组织特征进行了系统分析, 发现我国铁路货物运输联系形成了较为稳定的功能区划, 形成 北京、广州、上海等城市枢纽节点。基于合理运输组织和减少交易成本的组织理念, 提出建 立东北、华北、西北、华中、华东、中南和西南7大区域铁路公司。该研究可以为铁路市场 化改革提供决策支持。     

虚拟现实技术在测量实践教学中的应用探讨

首先阐述了虚拟现实技术应用于测量实践课程教学中的优点,然后分析了目前测量实践教学中存在的实际问题和运用虚拟现实技术后的解决方法,最后给出了测量实践教学虚拟实验系统的构成。     

“摄影与航空摄影”课程互动式教学模式的研究

互动式教学模式以培养学生学习的自主意识和创新能力为目标,既发挥教师的主导作用,又充分体现学生的认知主体作用。摄影与航空摄影是遥感科学与技术专业的专业基础课程,本文提出了针对该课程的互动式教学模式,并进行了课堂教学实践,总结了该模式的创新点和应用价值。     

摄影测量与遥感技术专业实训教学改革与实践

实训教学质量是实现高职人才培养目标的重要环节,本文通过对高职摄影测量与遥感技术专业培养目标的分析,从营造实训环境、加强实训教学队伍建设、开创创新型实训项目、实施实训教学评价四个方面对高职摄影测量与遥感技术专业实训教学进行改革,通过实践,证明了该改革有利于提高高职摄影测量与遥感技术专业实训教学质量。     

《卫星定位与导航》教学研究与探索

总结了《卫星定位与导航》课程中实践教学环节存在的若干问题,通过对存在问题进行分析,提出了几点建议,使该课程实践教学体系与理论教学体系形成互促互动的良性关系,提高了测绘相关专业毕业生参与社会化生产的能力。
