CLINICALLY APPLIED MEDICAL GEOGRAPHY: ITS ROLE IN TRAVEL MEDICINE

Medical geography frequently contributes to public health, but rarely are medical geographic concepts applied in clinical settings. This article describes the application of medical geographic concepts to an academic travel and tropical medicine clinical service at University Hospital in Seattle, and reviews the role of a medical geographer in this particular clinical setting. Applied concepts of medical geography improve the quality of patient care for overseas travellers and recent immigrants to the United States.     

INDUSTRY-GOVERNMENT-ACADEMIC COOPERATION: POSSIBLE BENEFITS FOR GEOGRAPHY

Some current developments outside of academe and their relationship to geography are presented; comments are based on experience from a three year National Science Foundation Faculty Fellowship. Suggestions for improving our educational efforts are discussed, including new roles for the AAG, changes in teaching methods, establishment of advisory boards, and closer ties with industry and government.     

WOMEN AND GEOGRAPHY IN SPANISH UNIVERSITIES

An analysis of the presence of women geographers in Spanish universities indicates that women lecturers are a minority, especially in the top posts. The written contributions of women geographers in geographical journals published by geography departments, and in unpublished M.A. theses and doctoral dissertations are proportionally fewer than the corresponding percentage of staff members.

综合自然地理学一方面自分区扩展到土地类型和地段的研究;另一方面扩大为地球表层的综合研究,走向综合地理学、建设地理学、全息地理学等方面研究。地理学要从区域第一转向理论第一,促使发展理论地理学,还要开展元地理学研究。     

对近代先驱地理学家徐霞客研究的回顾与展望

本文回顾了400年来对徐霞客及其游记研究的五个阶段：近代启蒙地理学探索；对散失游记重新搜集整理；用近代的理论与方法进行研究；放到资本主义经济萌芽背景上进行研究；近年来全面综合的研究。评价了各阶段主要研究者的重要贡献。展望了今后开拓的新领域，再现当时的地理环境，找出其中演化趋势；并阐述了发掘徐霞客精神的重要意义。

SPATIAL PATTERNS OF SUPPORT FOR A NUCLEAR WEAPONS FREEZE*

Support for a Freeze on nuclear weapons is greatest in the East with pockets of support in the Middle West and Pacific Coast States. Factors influencing the spatial pattern are Walker's innovativeness rankings, the number of peace/Freeze activist groups and the pattern of defense employment.     

数字城市地理空间信息公共平台的设计

数字城市建设的目的是实现城市各种信息的数字化共享,地理空间信息是数字城市建设的基础信息,如何实现数字城市地理空间信息的共享是数字城市建设过程中的基本问题.在以往的数字城市建设中,地理信息往往作为城市某些职能部门的"私有"信息,其共享性得不到保证,严重影响了数字城市建设.地理空间信息公共平台的设计目的是实现地理信息共享.阐述的公共平台的系统设计主要分为公共基础空间数据库的建立、地理空间信息共享环境的设计以及地理空间信息公共技术平台设计3个方面的内容.
