Particulate fluxes of aluminium, iron, magnesium and titanium were measured using six time-series sediment traps deployed
in the eastern, central and western Arabian Sea. Annual Al fluxes at shallow and deep trap depths were 0.47 and 0.46 g m-2 in the western Arabian Sea, and 0.33 and 0.47 g m-2 in the eastern Arabian Sea. There is a difference of about 0.9–1.8 g m-2y-1 in the lithogenic fluxes determined analytically (residue remaining after leaching out all biogenic particles) and estimated
from the Al fluxes in the western Arabian Sea. This arises due to higher fluxes of Mg (as dolomite) in the western Arabian
Sea (6–11 times higher than the eastern Arabian Sea). The estimated dolomite fluxes at the western Arabian Sea site range
from 0.9 to 1.35gm-2y-1. Fe fluxes in the Arabian Sea were less than that of the reported atmospheric fluxes without any evidence for the presence
of labile fraction/excess of Fe in the settling particles. More than 75% of Al, Fe, Ti and Mg fluxes occurred during the southwest
(SW) monsoon in the western Arabian Sea. In the eastern Arabian Sea, peak Al, Fe, Mg and Ti fluxes were recorded during both
the northeast (NE) and SW monsoons. During the SW monsoon, there exists a time lag of around one month between the increases
in lithogenic and dolomite fluxes. Total lithogenic fluxes increase when the southern branch of dust bearing northwesterlies
is dragged by the SW monsoon winds to the trap locations. However, the dolomite fluxes increase only when the northern branch
of the northwesterlies (which carries a huge amount of dolomite accounting 60% of the total dust load) is dragged, from further
north, by SW monsoon winds. The potential for the use of Mg/Fe ratio as a paleo-monsoonal proxy is examined. 相似文献

对陕西洛川黄土剖面的白度研究表明,黄土和古土壤存在明显的白度差别,表现为黄土的白度值较高,而古土壤的白度值较低,依据白度值可以清晰地区另出剖面中的黄土层和古土壤层。化学处理以及分粒级实验结果表明风化成壤作用造成细粒级铁氧化物的含量增高是古土壤中白度值降低的主要因素。洛川剖面白度值的变化与第四纪冰期-间冰期旋回的波动特征相一致,其逐渐增高的趋势与全球气候变冷总体趋势相吻合,表明白度在反映夏季风环流强度变化,以及对全球气候变化的响应问题上具有广泛的应用前景。 相似文献

以广西桂林,贵州荔波、茂兰、都匀凯口及云南宣威、泸沽湖等地典型岩溶峰丛-峰林平原、岩溶斜坡和岩溶高原的大量大型石笋纵剖面研究为基础,依据石笋沉积旋回或纹层组的系统测年数据和碳氧同位素系统测试资料,确定石笋沉积间断面上、下的年龄,若以上、下纹层结构构造差异大、构造类型不同、结构构造突变或有间断沉积特征为前提,将上、下纹层的年龄差作为沉积间断时间:差值大,间断时间长,其间若有间歇性停、滴转变,则沉积纹层的测年值是此时段的正常年序;差值小,间断时间短;差值很小,又无宏观异常,为正常的连续沉积。本文从石笋沉积间断标志,间断面上、下的年代异常,间断类型和古气候环境意义,论述石笋沉积间断,阐明石笋纵剖面有丰富的古气候环境信息,是全球气候变化研究的重要领域之一。此外,根据石笋纹层的宏观、微观资料和测年统计,提出了年季和年际的短期性、10年际—万年际的长期性、瞬时性间断类型的分类方案,短期停滴,是常态气候条件下,年旱季或年际干旱停滴,形成年际和季节性沉积间断;长期停滴,是气候环境冷暖周期性变化,略呈小周期的干冷气候间歇性停、滴相间的演变,形成10年际—万年际沉积间断;瞬时性停滴,指地震、掉顶、坍塌等天然或人为事故,碰断石笋,引起瞬时或短暂停滴,形成灾害性沉积间断 相似文献

Paleoclimatic changes in the late Quaternary sediments deposited in the East Sea were analyzed by studying diatoms. A total of 95 species belonging to 47 genera were identified from the Core02GHP-02 of the Ulleung Basin in the East Sea, Korea. In the Core 02GHP-02, U-Oki(169–181 cm; 9.3 ka), AT(464–465.5 cm; 22 ka) and U–Ym(556–559 cm; 33 ka) tephra layers were recognized. The chronological divisions of 02GHP-02 may be correlated with the climatic changes from the glacial interval(730–620 cm; MIS3), to interstadial(620–500 cm; MIS3), to the last glacial maximum(500–390 cm; MIS 2), to the deglaciation(390–290 cm; MIS 2), to the late glacial(290–190 cm; MIS 1), and to the Holocene(190–10 cm; MIS 1). It is speculated that diatoms were rarely found during the glacial interval when the 02GHP-02 core was deposited; during the interstadial(MIS 3) and deglaciation, a mixture of warm-water and cold-water species were found. In particular, Fragilariopsis doliolus seems to have appeared in the East Sea after 8 ka BP. In the lower layers of the Holocene deposits, cold-water species such as Neodenticula seminae were frequently found, while in the upper layers, warm-water species such as Hemidiscus cuneiformis were found in relatively large abundance. Therefore, the findings indicate that the climate became warmer during the transition from the lower layer to the upper layer of the Holocene deposits. 相似文献

Bottom sediments from the central zone of the Sea of Okhotsk were preliminarily dated. The petromagnetic parameters of two groups of samples formed at cold and warm climatic stages were studied. Warm oxygen isotopic stages and substages were characterized by the coexistence of pseudo-single-domain allogenic magnetite and predominant magnetite and greigite (pyrrhotite) grains subject to biologic control. At cold stages, sediments containing a mixture of pseudo-single-domain and multidomain terrigenous magnetite particles accumulated. A high-resolution climate record from 163.00 kaBP to 113.80 kaBP has been obtained through TIMS-U series dating and carbon
and oxygen isotope analysis of the three large stalagmites from two caves in the south of Guizhou Province, China. The record
of the oxygen isotopes from the stalagmites reveals that the undulation characteristics between the cooling event of the glacial
period and the warming event of the interglacial period in the research area can compare well to those of ice cores, lake
sediments, loess and deep sea sediments on the scale of ten-thousand years or millennium time scale. The climate undulation
provided by the record of the stalagmites has a coherence with the global changes and a tele-connection to the paleoclimate
changes in the north polar region. Our results suggest that the direct dynamics of paleo-monsoon circulation changes reflected
in the record of the stalagmites might be caused by changes of the global ice volume, and in turn related to various factors,
including the solar radiation strength at the mid-latitudes in the Northern Hemisphere, the southern extension of the ice-rafted
event in the North Atlantic, and changes of the equatorial Pacific sea surface temperature at the low-latitudes. Using °18O values, we have calculated the temperatures and the results show that the temperature difference between the penultimate
glacial period (with an average temperature of 8.1°C, and a minimum temperature range from 0.65°C to-1.43°C at stage 6) and
the last interglacial period (with an average temperature of 18.24°C at sub-stage 5e) was about 10°C. This temperature difference
from the record of the stalagmites corresponds in general to the record temperature variation (about 10°C) of measured ice
cores. The climate records from the three stalagmites in the two caves have shown that the circulation strength of the Asian
summer monsoon and the winter monsoon in the penultimate glacial period and the last inter-glacial period had a clear change.
With the TIMS-U series method, termination II of the penultimate glacial period has been precisely dated at an age of (129.28±
1.10) kaBP for the three stalagmites in the south of Guizhou Province, China. This borderline age represents the beginning
of the last interglacial period or the boundary between the Middle Pleistocene and the Late Pleistocene, and corresponds to
the beginning age of the last interglacial period shown by the ice cores and in the SPECMAP curve of the marine oxygen isotopes.
The chronology determination of termination II is not only of stratigraphic and chronological significance, but also lays
an important foundation for discussing the short time scales of climate oscillation and rapidly changing events of paleoclimate
in the circulation region of the East Asian monsoon. 相似文献

以南沙群岛永暑礁的现代滨珊瑚YSL24(生长时间为1985—1999年)与YSL2A(生长时间为1971—1999年)为材料,通过对其骨骼开展高分辨率的Sr/Ca、δ18O和δ13C分析,探讨其对极端高温事件的响应特征。有记录表明,1971—1999年,南海南部在1973、1983和1998年发生了极端高温事件,滨珊瑚骨骼Sr/Ca序列清楚地记录了这3次高温事件,其相应条带Sr/Ca周期数值显著低于序列其他年份。而δ18O对高温事件的响应不太明显,其原因可能与δ18O序列同时受温度和盐度变化的影响有关。δ13C在这3个高温年份均在夏季发生了异常负偏,应该是由高温胁迫下共生藻光合作用强度下降所致。因此,珊瑚骨骼的Sr/Ca和δ13C对南沙群岛高温胁迫具有明显的响应,可作为记录过去白化事件的可靠指标。 相似文献

Recent advances on reconstruction of climate and extreme events in China for the past 2000 years 总被引:5,自引:1,他引:5
China is distinguished by a prominent monsoonal climate in the east of the country, a continental arid climate in the northwest and a highland cold climate on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Because of the long history of Chinese civilization, there are abundant and well-dated documentary records for climate variation over the whole of the country as well as many natural archives (e.g., tree-rings, ice cores, stalagmites, varved lake sediments and corals) that enable high-resolution paleoclimatic reconstruction. In this paper, we review recent advances in the reconstruction of climate and extreme events over the last 2000 years in China. In the last 10 years, many new reconstructions, based on multi-proxies with wide spatial coverage, have been published in China. These reconstructions enable us to understand the characteristics of climate change across the country as well as the uncertainties of regional reconstructions. Synthesized reconstructed temperature results show that warm intervals over the last 2000 years occurred in AD 1–200, AD 551–760, AD 951–1320, and after AD 1921, and also show that cold intervals were in AD 201–350, AD 441–530, AD 781–950, and AD 1321–1920. Extreme cold winters, seen between 1500 and 1900, were more frequent than those after 1950. The intensity of regional heat waves, in the context of recent global warming, may not in fact exceed natural climate variability seen over the last 2000 years. In the eastern monsoonal region of China, decadal, multi-decadal and centennial oscillations are seen in rainfall variability. While the ensemble mean for drought/flood spatial patterns across all cold periods shows a meridional distribution, there is a tri-pole pattern with respect to droughts south of 25°N, floods between 25° and 30°N, and droughts north of 30°N for all warm periods. Data show that extreme drought events were most frequent in the periods AD 301–400, AD 751–800, AD 1051–1150, AD 1501–1550, and AD 1601–1650, while extreme flood events were frequent in the periods AD 101–150, AD 251–300, AD 951–1000, AD 1701–1750, AD 1801–1850, and AD 1901–1950. Between AD 1551–1600, extreme droughts and flood events occurred frequently. In arid northwest China, climate was characterized by dry conditions in AD 1000–1350, wet conditions in AD 1500–1850, and has tended to be wet over recent decades. On the northeastern Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, centennial-scale oscillations in precipitation have occurred over the last 1000 years, interrupted by several multi-decadal-scale severe drought events. Of these, the most severe were in the 1480s and 1710s. In southwest China, extreme droughts as severe as those seen in Sichuan and Chongqing in 2006 are known to have occurred during historical times. 相似文献
