通过对鄂尔多斯盆地上三叠统延长组野外露头、岩心剖面的细致研究,发现深湖区发育有类型多样的同沉积变形构造。露头剖面中见有同沉积砂岩墙、砂泥岩脊、砂岩脉、微断层和褶皱变形构造等,岩心中也观察到砂岩揉皱构造,砂泥质角砾,微断层和砂岩脉等变形构造,在对其特征描述和层系结构分析的基础上,结合三角洲前缘砂体向深湖区滑塌形成富含火焰状构造的鲍马层系,指出同沉积构造成因与古地震作用关系密切。时间上同沉积变形构造与火山灰沉积物几乎同期发育,相伴而生,且略早于广泛发育的长7浊积岩; 古地震、邻区火山作用或深部热作用导致盆地基底沉降、山体隆升,有利于滑塌浊积岩的形成。空间上同沉积变形构造主要分布于盆地南部和西南部,并且从南西至北东方向有强度减弱的趋势。综合对比同期周邻造山带的演化历史及深湖区同沉积变形构造的分布特征后认为,同沉积变形构造是对盆地南部秦岭碰撞造山和盆地内深部热作用的耦合响应,指示了深湖盆发育期对应于盆地构造相对活动的动力学背景,对同期优质烃源岩的发育有重要贡献。  相似文献

The deformed metasedimentary bedrock and overlying diamictons in western Anglesey, NW Wales, record evidence of glacier-permafrost interactions during the Late Devensian (Weichselian). The locally highly brecciated New Harbour Group bedrock is directly overlain by a bedrock-rich diamicton which preserves evidence of having undergone both periglacial (brecciation, hydrofracturing) and glacitectonic deformation (thrusting, folding), and is therefore interpreted as periglacial head deposit. The diamicton locally posses a well-developed clast macrofabric which preserves the orientation of the pre-existing tectonic structures within underlying metasedimentary rocks. Both the diamicton and New Harbour Group were variably reworked during the deposition of the later Irish Sea diamicton, resulting in the detachment of bedrock rafts and formation of a pervasively deformed glacitectonite. These structural and stratigraphic relationships are used to demonstrate that a potentially extensive layer of permafrost developed across the island before it was overridden by the Irish Sea Ice Stream. These findings have important implications for the glacial history of Anglesey, indicating that the island remained relatively ice-free prior to its inundation by ice flowing southwards down the Irish Sea Basin. Palynological data obtained from the diamictons across Anglesey clearly demonstrates that they have an Irish Sea provenance. Importantly no Lower Palaeozoic palynomorphs were identified, indicating that it is unlikely that Anglesey was overridden by ice emanating from the Snowdon ice cap developed on the adjacent Welsh mainland. Permafrost was once again re-established across Anglesey after the Irish Sea Ice Stream had retreated, resulting in the formation of involutions which deform both the lower bedrock-rich and overlying Irish Sea diamictons.  相似文献

Volcanism is a natural climate force that causes variations in temperatures. The Aptian Oceanic Anoxic Event 1a (OAE-1a) was preceded by a prominent negative C-isotope excursion attributed to major volcanism of the Ontong Java plateau (OJP), which presumably resulted in a pCO2 increase and a climatic change. However, the OJP alone may not adequately explain some important isotopic signatures such as the negative strontium-isotope excursion from 125 Ma to 113 Ma that is recorded in the corresponding marine deposits. We present an independent and hitherto undocumented case, the giant Aptian volcanism in the Songliao Basin and northeast Asia (SB-V) on the Cretaceous active continental margin between the Eurasian and the Pacific plates, which covered an area of ca. 2.3 × 106 km2, nearly matching the simultaneous case of the OJP. Intensive strong, explosive volcanic eruptions of the SB-V occurred at 121–109 Ma and introduced a large volume of fine-grained volcanic ash and degassing volatiles into the atmosphere. The Aptian isotopic ratios (87Sr/86Sr, 206Pb/204Pb, 207Pb/204Pb, and 208Pb/204Pb) of marine carbonates from the Mid-Pacific shift in values between their Barremian pre-excursion high values and the negative magmatic values of the SB-V. The transient global cooling at the onset of the OAE-1a coincided with the beginning of the violent acidic eruption of the SB-V (119.9–120.2 Ma). We therefore infer that the SB-V must have played a role in the Aptian global climatic changes and OAE-1a through the heavy fall of volcanic dust and the outgassing of aerosol and greenhouse gases.  相似文献

The Mount Widderin shield volcano is located near Skipton, western Victoria, in the Western Plains subprovince of the monogenetic Pliocene–Holocene Newer Volcanic Province (NVP). Radiometric ages for lavas in the Hamilton–Skipton–Derrinallum area are few, owing to limited suitable outcrop for K–Ar or 40Ar/39Ar geochronology studies. Existing age constraints for flows in this area have been inferred from Regolith Landform Units (RLUs), complemented by a small number of K–Ar studies on ≥1 Ma flows. Although the RLU approach provides a valuable overview of relative eruption ages across the NVP, it is of limited use in eruption frequency studies. Additional radio-isotopic ages are required to refine age ranges for individual RLUs, and to validate previous assignment of individual flows to specific RLUs. We report a new, high-precision 40Ar/39Ar age of 389 ± 8 ka (2σ) for a Mount Widderin basalt sample. Based on this age and geomorphic observations, we propose that both the Widderin and Elephant lava flows be reassigned from the Eccles RLU to the Rouse RLU. We use the 389 ± 8 ka (2σ) age for Widderin, along with published K–Ar ages, to anchor a stratigraphic sequence of 15 individual flows in the Hamilton–Skipton–Derrinallum area, demonstrating that intermittent volcanism has occurred in this area from ≥3 Ma to ≤0.389 Ma. Within the limits of available data for the NVP, this time span of volcanic activity is second only to that of the Melbourne area. We consider the significance of the Widderin eruption age, in conjunction with published age constraints for maars and scoria cones of the Western Plains subprovince, building on previous studies that have focused solely on lava flow ages. The inclusion of the additional data weakens the argument for a decrease in volcanic activity after ca 0.9 Ma as implied by published ages for lava flows only. Additional detailed combined geochronology–geomorphology studies of lavas, scoria cones and maars in strategically selected small areas are advocated to better understand eruption frequency across the NVP.  相似文献

The present research tests the application of geochemical atlas of soils and stream sediments in the investigation of weathering and erosion processes on volcanic islands. The composition of surface soils collected in six catchments from Santiago Island (Cape Verde) are compared with bedload stream deposits sourced by these catchment areas in order to evaluate the spatial variability of these exogenous processes. The geochemistry of bedload stream deposits is between that of the fresh rocks and the topsoils of their source areas. Relative to average soil composition, bedload deposits are depleted in most of less-mobile elements (e.g., Al, Fe, La, Sc) and strongly enriched in Na and, usually, Ca. When the topsoil weathering intensity in the catchment areas is highly variable and the composition of bedload deposits is substantially different from the average soil composition, bedload deposits should incorporate significant amounts of poorly-weathered rocks and sectors from erosion occur within the drainage basin. Ratios of non-mobile elements allow the identification of highly vulnerable and erosion-protected sectors within the catchments. It is proposed that the catchments of the rivers in the SW flanking side of Santiago Island include sectors where lava shields formed during the post-erosional eruptive phases are capable of an effective protection to erosion. Conversely, the NE-facing part of the island is highly dissected and any younger post-erosional cover was either completely eroded away, or never existed in the first place. Simple compositional parameters derived from the databases of geochemical maps of soil and stream sediments provide important information for the analyses of weathering, erosion and denudation processes at the catchment scale.  相似文献

In regions with limited knowledge of the historical volcanic record, like remote areas in the Andean Southern Volcanic Zone, the definition of reliable age-depth models for lake sequences represents a valuable tool for tephra layers dating. In Lake Futalaufquen (42.8°S), Northern Patagonia, a short sedimentary sequence was extracted after the AD 2008 Chaitén eruption with the purpose to analyze the records of volcanic eruptions at these poorly studied latitudes. The sequence was dated by 210Pb, 137Cs, and 14C techniques. Five tephras were identified for the last 1600 years, restricted to the last 5 centuries. Sedimentology, morphology, and geochemical properties allowed the characterization of the tephras and their correlation with tephras recently identified proximal to the sources, mainly from Chaitén and Huequi volcanoes, and Michinmahuida accessory cones, representing the first distal records reported of these tephras. Furthermore, tephras modeled ages obtained by the sequence age-depth model shrink the ages for the volcanic events, like a potential cycle of activity from Michinmauida accessory cones during AD 1530 ± 55, one eruption from Huequi volcano at AD 1695 ± 50, and a possible recent eruption from Chaitén at AD 1775 ± 40. Additionally, the work contributes to improve the regional volcanic records knowledge, basic for volcanic hazard assessment.  相似文献

The Pernambuco marginal basin is located on the eastern continental margin of northeastern Brazil, covers an area of 20,800 km2, and represents one of the most prominent frontiers for deep water oil and gas exploration off the Brazilian coast. The onshore region of this basin was highly affected by extrusive and intrusive magmatism during the Upper Albian, and the relation of that event with the volcanic structures observed in the offshore sector has not been thoroughly characterized to date. This study aims to characterize the major extrusive and intrusive volcanic structures of the offshore portion of this basin, which is dominated by the Pernambuco Plateau, and its stratigraphic relations. A set of 143 2D multichannel seismic sections that cover the Pernambuco Plateau region are used to interpret the major tectono-stratigraphic sequences and describe the distribution of volcanoes, sills, vent complexes and related volcaniclastic sequences. The interpretations are supported by aeromagnetic and gravimetric geophysical surveys. Volcanoes are classified into two groups that differ in terms of their morphology: shield-like structures and cone-shaped volcanic structures. Sill intrusions are mainly identified beneath the volcanic structures and are characterized by high-amplitude reflectors with short extensions and abrupt terminations. Volcaniclastic sequences are found adjacent to the volcanoes and are characterized by high-amplitude, disrupted reflections with local chaotic configurations. Vent complexes are classified on the basis of their morphologies as either eye-shaped or crater-shaped. The volcanic features identified within the available seismic dataset are concentrated in two main areas: in the centre of the plateau and near its northeastern border. These two regions are host basement outer highs and are surrounded by hyper-extended continental crust, which forms the plateau itself. The extrusive and intrusive features described in the offshore region were formed during the post rift Cretaceous and Cenozoic intervals and point to the continuation of magmatic events after the rifting process. The findings presented in this report provide a better understanding of the magmatism on the northeastern passive margin of Brazil and can also be useful for future modelling of the Pernambuco Basin petroleum system.  相似文献

Fluvial bedrock erosion rates due to impacting sediment particles are thought to be proportional to the energy delivered to the bedrock. When sediment particles cover the bed, they reduce the energy transmitted to the bed by an impacting particle. We measured the decline of energy transferred through sediment cover of increasing thickness in laboratory experiments. The energy arriving at the bed is a function both of the cover thickness and the grain size of the covering sediment. Using a simple stochastic model of cover distribution, the experimental results were upscaled to the reach scale. Although cover thickness influences energy delivery heavily at a given point, when averaging over the whole bed, cover-free areas dominate total energy delivery, making partial energy transfer through the cover negligible when a small or intermediate fraction of the bed is covered by sediment. Partial energy delivery through the bed cover is not negligible when a large fraction or the complete bed is already covered, but in this situation, an erosion threshold may become important. On grounds of the presented data, we expect that the areal distribution of sediment in a bedrock channel dominates total energy delivery and that partial energy delivery to the bed through a sediment layer can be neglected for most modelling purposes.  相似文献

The Taupo Volcanic Zone (TVZ) on the North Island of New Zealand is located above the subducting Pacific slab and hosts hydrothermal systems related to subduction, arc magmatism and crustal extension. In these systems, gold is transported primarily as sulphide complexes, with gold being deposited in response to boiling and mixing of the deep geothermal fluids. Conglomerate cobbles and hydrothermal fumaroles from the upper Retaruke River in the western TVZ are mineralised deposits that have been eroded from the nearby Miocene alluvial sedimentary plateau. Abundant gold-bearing pyrite was precipitated in the conglomerates and fumaroles by late hydrothermal process, primarily occurring as veinlets, disseminations and fine-grained aggregates which consists discrete euhedral microcrystals. Scanning electron microscopy combined with X-ray energy disperses spectroscopy shows that pyrites are commendably affected by late hydrothermal fluids, possibly by the carbonate fluid. Electron probe microanalysis revealed that the pyrite contains 20–120 ppm Au (averaging 60 ppm). Wavelength dispersive spectral elemental mapping suggests that gold is distributed uniformly in pyrite, indicating structurally bound gold (solid solution) in pyrite. Gold mineralisation recognised in the conglomerates and fumaroles demonstrates that the upper Retaruke River is a promising target for future gold exploration.  相似文献
