In order to determine the temporal and spatial variations of nutrient profiles in the shallow pore water columns (upper 30
cm depth) of intertidal sandflats, we measured the salinity and nutrient concentrations in pore water and seawater at various
coastal environments along the southern coast of Korea. In the intertidal zone, salinity and nutrient concentrations in pore
water showed marked vertical changes with depth, owing to the active exchange between the pore water and overlying seawater,
while they are temporally more stable and vertically constant in the sublittoral zone. In some cases, the advective flow of
fresh groundwater caused strong vertical gradients of salinity and nutrients in the upper 10 cm depth of surface sediments,
indicating the active mixing of the fresher groundwater with overlying seawater. Such upper pore water column profiles clearly
signified the temporal fluctuation of lower-salinity and higher-Si seawater intrusion into pore water in an intertidal sandflat
near the mouth of an estuary. We also observed a semimonthly fluctuation of pore water nutrients due to spring-neap tide associated
recirculation of seawater through the upper sediments. Our study shows that the exchange of water and nutrients between shallow
pore water and overlying seawater is most active in the upper 20 cm layer of intertidal sandflats, due to physical forces
such as tides, wave set-up, and density-thermal gradient. 相似文献

Acid rock drainage (ARD) is a longstanding problem often associated with the resulting corrosion due to the acidity generated
from sulfidic oxidation. To evaluate characteristics of ARD and corrosion, samples from the road side rock mass of Boeun and
Mujoo were analysed using X-ray diffraction, acid/base accounting and Leaching tests. The results indicated that many samples
had a pyritic origin and can be regarded as acid-generating rocks. The Leaching test showed that the average pH of the leachates
of samples from both Boeun and Mujoo were moderately acidic, ranging from 3 to 4. Interestingly, as acidity increases from
pH 4, the SO4−, Fe, Al and Mg concentrations increase abnormally. Samples from roadside slope of Mujoo showed high corrosive potential.
Maximum sulfide oxidation rate of a sample taken from Mujoo was as high as 5,166 mg/kg/week. 相似文献

The likelihood ratio, logistic regression, and artificial neural networks models are applied and verified for analysis of
landslide susceptibility in Youngin, Korea, using the geographic information system. From a spatial database containing such
data as landslide location, topography, soil, forest, geology, and land use, the 14 landslide-related factors were calculated
or extracted. Using these factors, landslide susceptibility indexes were calculated by likelihood ratio, logistic regression,
and artificial neural network models. Before the calculation, the study area was divided into two sides (west and east) of
equal area, for verification of the models. Thus, the west side was used to assess the landslide susceptibility, and the east
side was used to verify the derived susceptibility. The results of the landslide susceptibility analysis were verified using
success and prediction rates. The verification results showed satisfactory agreement between the susceptibility map and the

The horizontal distribution of the Tsushima Current in the Tsushima/Korea Strait is assessed by a fine-resolution numerical experiment. The comparison of the model results with the observations along a section crossing the strait shows that the model represents relatively well, the general tendency of what was observed, such as the separation of the Tsushima Current into the western and eastern streams by the Tsushima Island. In summer, strong and relatively uniformly distributed surface currents enhance the formation of the wake downstream of the Tsushima Island. The axis of the countercurrent, embedded in the wake, is closer to the western stream. Anti-cyclonic eddies are shed near the downstream tip of the Tsushima Island and propagate along the boundary between the western stream and the wake. The exchange of water between the western stream and the wake takes place through the intermediation of these eddies. There is a net water supply from the western stream to the wake, which is then carried to the eastern stream by the countercurrent via the eastern coast of the Tsushima Island. In winter, currents, strongly barotropic, tend to have banded structures, especially in the region downstream of the western channel where isobaths converge in the downstream direction. The eddies found in this region in winter appear to be fundamentally different from those associated with the Tsushima Island wake. The necessary condition for barotropic instability is satisfied for the monthly mean currents in this region, suggesting that the currents are barotropically unstable in this region in winter. 相似文献

Ferroalloy, base-metal and precious-metal deposits in or around the Gyeongsang Basin, which is located in the Cretaceous volcano-sedimentary terrain at the southeastern Korea, displays a genetic relationship with subvolcanic activities of Late Cretaceous to Tertiary age. Diverse mineralization, which occurs as vein, breccia-pipe, porphyry-style and skarn deposits, took place from 108 to 45 Ma that overlapped with polyphase episodes of igneous activity. Based on the mineralogy, host rock, fluid inclusion and stable isotope data of the deposits, the systematic variation of physicochemical conditions is thought to be due to their relative positions with respect to a magma source that is genetically related to a low to intermediate-sulfidation porphyry system. There appears to be a systematic decrease towards δ18OH2O values from copper (-gold) and ferroalloy deposits through polymetallic to precious-metal ones. However, Cu (-Au) or Fe–Mo–W deposits are proximal to a magmatic source, whereas polymetallic or precious-metal deposits are more distal to transitional. 相似文献

Quantitative precipitation estimation(QPE) plays an important role in meteorological and hydrological applications.Ground-based telemetered rain gauges are widely used to collect precipitation measurements. Spatial interpolation methods are commonly employed to estimate precipitation fields covering non-observed locations. Kriging is a simple and popular geostatistical interpolation method, but it has two known problems: uncertainty underestimation and violation of assumptions.This paper tackles these problems and seeks an optimal spatial interpolation for QPE in order to enhance spatial interpolation through appropriately assessing prediction uncertainty and fulfilling the required assumptions. To this end, several methods are tested: transformation, detrending, multiple spatial correlation functions, and Bayesian kriging. In particular, we focus on a short-term and time-specific rather than a long-term and event-specific analysis. This paper analyzes a stratiform rain event with an embedded convection linked to the passing monsoon front on the 23 August 2012. Data from a total of 100 automatic weather stations are used, and the rainfall intensities are calculated from the difference of 15 minute accumulated rainfall observed every 1 minute. The one-hour average rainfall intensity is then calculated to minimize the measurement random error. Cross-validation is carried out for evaluating the interpolation methods at regional and local levels. As a result,transformation is found to play an important role in improving spatial interpolation and uncertainty assessment, and Bayesian methods generally outperform traditional ones in terms of the criteria. 相似文献

Landslides susceptibility maps were constructed in the Pyeong-Chang area, Korea, using the Random Forest and Boosted Tree models. Landslide locations were randomly selected in a 50/50 ratio for training and validation of the models. Seventeen landslide-related factors were extracted and constructed in a spatial database. The relationships between the observed landslide locations and these factors were identified by using the two models. The models were used to generate a landslide susceptibility map and the importance of the factors was calculated. Finally, the landslide susceptibility maps were validated. Finally, landslide susceptibility maps were generated. For the Random Forest model, the validation accuracy in regression and classification algorithms showed 79.34 and 79.18%, respectively, and for the Boosted Tree model, these were 84.87 and 85.98%, respectively. The two models showed satisfactory accuracies, and the Boosted Tree model showed better results than the Random Forest model. 相似文献

This study examined the characteristics of the diurnal variations of heavy rainfall (≥110 mm in 12 hours) in Korea and the related atmospheric circulation for July from 1980?2020. During the analysis period, two dominant pattens of diurnal variation of the heavy rainfall emerged: all-day heavy rainfall (AD) and morning only heavy rainfall (MO) types. For the AD-type, the heavy rainfall is caused by abundant moisture content in conjunction with active convection in the morning (0000?1200, LST; LST = UTC + 9) and the afternoon hours (1200?2400 LST). These systems are related to the enhanced moisture inflow and upward motion induced by the strengthening of the western North Pacific subtropical high and upper-tropospheric jet. For the MO-type, heavy rainfall occurs mostly in the morning hours; the associated atmospheric patterns are similar to the climatology. We find that the atmospheric pattern related to severe heavy rainfalls in 2020 corresponds to a typical AD-type and resembles the 1991 heavy-rainfall system in its overall synoptic/mesoscale circulations. The present results imply that extremely heavy rainfall episodes in Korea during the 2020 summer may occur again in the future associated with the recurring atmospheric phenomenon related to the heavy rainfall. 相似文献
