Uppermost Jurassic limestones of the South‐East Basin (France) are organized into four facies associations that were deposited in four distinct zones: (1) peritidal lagoonal limestones; (2) bioclastic and reefal limestones; (3) pelagic lime mudstones; (4) lime mudstones/calcarenites/coarse breccias. Calcarenite deposits of zone 4 exhibit sedimentary structures that are diagnostic of deposition under wave‐induced combined flow. In subzone 4a, both vertical and lateral transitions from lime mudstone/calcarenite to breccia indicate in situ brecciation under wave‐cyclic loading. Breccias were produced by heterogeneous liquefaction of material previously deposited on the sea floor. Deposits in subzone 4a record relatively long periods (>400 kyr) of sedimentation below wave base, alternating with periods of deposition under wave‐induced currents and periods of in situ deformation. In this zone, storm waves were attenuated by wave–sediment interaction, and wave energy was absorbed by the deformation of soft sediment. With reference to present‐day wave attenuation, water depths in this zone ranged between 50 and 80 m. Landwards of the attenuation zone, in zone 3, storm waves were reduced to fair‐weather wave heights. Storm wave base was not horizontal and became shallower landwards. As a consequence, water depth and wave energy were not linearly related. On a small area of the seaward edge of subzone 4a, cobbles were removed by traction currents and redeposited in subzone 4b. There, they formed a 100‐m‐thick wedge, which prograded over 3 km and was built up by the stacking of 5‐ to 20‐m‐thick cross‐stratified sets of coarse breccia. This wedge records the transport and redeposition of cobbles by a high‐velocity unidirectional component of a combined flow. The increase in flow velocity in a restricted area is proposed to result from flow concentration in a channel‐like structure of the downwelling in the gulf formed by the basin. In more distal subzone 4c, the hydrodynamic effect of wave‐induced currents was quasi‐permanent, and brecciation by wave–sediment interaction occurred only episodically. This indicates that, seawards of the attenuation zone, hydrodynamic storm wave base was deeper than mechanical storm wave base. Uppermost Jurassic carbonates were deposited and soft‐sediment deformed on a hurricane‐dominated ramp of very gentle slope and characterized by a zone of storm wave degeneration, located seawards of a zone of sedimentation below wave base.  相似文献

Pyroclastic deposits from the 1883 eruption of Krakatau are described from areas northeast of the volcano on the islands of Sebesi, Sebuku, and Lagoendi, and the southeast coast of Sumatra. Massive and poorly stratified units formed predominantly from pyroclastic flows and surges that traveled over the sea for distances up to 80 km. Granulometric and lithologic characteristics of the deposits indicate that they represent the complement of proximal subaerial and submarine pyroclastic flow deposits laid down on and close to the Krakatau islands. The distal deposits exhibit a decrease in sorting coefficient, median grain size, and thickness with increasing distance from Krakatau. Crystal fractionation is consistent with the distal facies being derived from the upper part of gravitationally segregated pyroclastic flows in which the relative amount of crystal enrichment and abundance of dense lithic clasts diminished upwards. The deposits are correlated to a major pyroclastic flow phase that occurred on the morning of 27 August at approximately 10 a.m. Energetic flows spread out away from the volcano at speeds in excess of 100 km/h and traveled up to 80 km from source. The flows retained temperatures high enough to burn victims on the SW coast of Sumatra. Historical accounts from ships in the Sunda Straits constrain the area affected by the flows to a minimum of 4x103 km2. At the distal edge of this area the flows were relatively dilute and turbulent, yet carried enough material to deposit several tens of centimeters of tephra. The great mobility of the Krakatau flows from the 10 a.m. activity may be the result of enhanced runout over the sea. It is proposed that the generation of steam at the flow/seawater interface may have led to a reduction in the sedimentation of particles and consequently a delay in the time before the flows ceased lateral motion and became buoyantly convective. The buoyant distal edge of these ash-and steam-laden clouds lifted off into the atmosphere, leading to cooling, condensation, and mud rain.  相似文献

1993年5月4~6日在我国西北部地区发生了一次“黑风暴”。用改进的MM1和高分辨PBL参数化及40 km细网格控制试验能基本上模拟出“93.5”黑风暴的结构和演变。模拟结果表明,黑风暴发展时段,在PBL内与一个中尺度气旋性强涡旋相伴,在对流层内与一个垂直涡柱相伴。这个伸展至对流层顶的涡柱下(上)半部是与低(高)空强烈辐合(辐散)入(外)流相伴的气旋(反气旋)性涡柱。该黑风暴结构不同于一般锋面结构,其主要判别是:界面坡度陡,θe水平梯度大,斜压性强,PBL内暖心明显。该暖心结构与下垫面剧烈热力强迫有关。不  相似文献

本文分析了1991年3月24日急始型磁暴的变化特征。分析表明,南极极隙区与中低纬区磁暴形态差异很大。中山站地磁台的磁暴急始为SC*型,无明显磁暴主相,它是由一组强烈的磁亚暴所组成。北京地磁中心台的磁暴急始为SC型,磁暴主相持续时间较短,变化较大。这次磁暴是由磁暴前太阳黑子相对数增多、3月22日22h46mUT有3b级耀斑爆发等一系列太阳活动所引起的  相似文献

河南省晚石炭世含煤地层中,存在着因风暴作用强烈侵蚀滨海泥炭沼泽,而后通过风暴回流把泥炭物质和植物遗体长距离搬运到浅海环境再沉积的风暴异地煤。这种异地煤的直接顶底板是具有风暴沉积特征的浅海碳酸盐岩.煤破碎成粉砂级—泥级,煤层原生结构已完全看不到,煤层下部为含有大量海相动物化石的滞积层,中部为具有类似丘状层理的波状层,上部为水平纹层,其层序特征几乎可与煤层直接顶底板浅海碳酸盐风暴岩类比。研究这种异地煤的沉积背景和形成机制以及这种煤层所反映出的煤质特征、煤岩特征、沉积特征、层序及层序类型特征,不仅可以开拓出一种新型异地成煤类型而扩大煤地质学的研究领域,而且有助于研究古气候、古水深和煤岩层对比等问题。  相似文献
