Volcanic gas and condensate samples were collected in 1993–1994 from fumaroles of Koryaksky and Avachinsky, basaltic andesite
volcanoes on the Kamchatka Peninsula near Petropavlovsk–Kamchatsky. The highest-temperature fumarolic discharges, 220 °C
at Koryaksky and 473 °C at Avachinsky, are water-rich (940–985 mmol/mol of H2O) and have chemical and isotopic characteristics typical of Kamchatka–Kurile, high- and medium-temperature volcanic gases.
The temperature and chemical and water isotopic compositions of the Koryaksky gases have not changed during the past 11 years.
They represent an approximate 2 : 1 mixture of magmatic and meteoric end members. Low-temperature, near-boiling-point discharges
of Avachinsky Volcano are water poor (≈880 mmol/mol); Their compositions have not changed since the 1991 eruption, and are
suggested to be derived from partially condensed magmatic gases at shallow depth. Based on a simple model involving mixing
and single-step steam separation, low water and high CO2 contents, as well as the observed Cl concentration and water isotopic composition in low-temperature discharges, are the
result of near-surface boiling of a brine composed of the almost pure condensed magmatic gas. High methane content in low-temperature
Avachinsky gases and the 220 °C Koryaksky fumarole, low C isotopic ratio in CO2 at Koryaksky (–11.8‰), and water isotope data suggest that the "meteoric" end member contains considerable amounts of the
regional methane-rich thermal water discovered in the vicinity of both volcanoes.

Landslides are common throughout the Ecuadorian Andes, but their causal and controlling factors and their roles in landform
development have not yet been systematically investigated. This paper reports observations and hypotheses arising from a reconnaissance
study of the Tandayapa Valley in the Cordillera Occidental, approximately 30 km west of Quito. This study area is characterised
by high local relief (ca. 800 m) associated with dissected mountainous terrain, high annual rainfall (>2,000 mm), and secondary-succession
wet montane ‘cloud forest’. Regolith cover is extremely thin on the very steep (45 to >60°) upper main valley slopes, but
there are thick accumulations of tephra on the slope crests and ridgetops. These deposits show periods of soil development
separated by deposition events. Natural landslides in this environment comprise rare large deep-seated bedrock failures and
occasional shallow failures on the steep upper slopes where potentially unstable thicknesses of tephra have accumulated. Landslides
associated with construction of roads and forest trails are more common. Back-analysis of one road-cut landslide, using field
and laboratory data to characterise the in situ weathered material where possible, indicated that natural shallow failures
are unlikely in the absence of a surficial cover of tephra. By analogy with another mountainous tropical landscape, it is
suggested that long-term landform development can be explained in terms of channel incision, driven by uplift, producing steep
lower valley slopes that eventually exceed bedrock failure thresholds. Therefore, large deep-seated landslides appear to control
valley slope form development, whilst the shallow landslides contribute to general denudation. 相似文献

西南天山特克斯科桑溶洞火山岩的锆石U-Pb年代学研究 总被引:4,自引:5,他引:4
新疆特克斯县乌孙山科桑溶洞火山-沉积岩剖面由变质岩、火山-沉积岩(中酸性火山熔岩、火山碎屑岩、生物碎屑灰岩)和侵入其中的花岗质岩石组成,花岗岩中保留着英安岩-安山岩顶垂体。夹在火山岩地层之间的厚层生物碎屑灰岩(其中发育溶洞)发生褶皱变形。在剖面多处见到逆冲构造,断裂带局部塑性变形。采自剖面下部英安岩样品的锆石232Th/238U比值为0.4~0.6,U-Pb谐和年龄368.3±1.7Ma(MSWD=1.5,n=15)。剖面上部流纹岩中锆石的232Th/238U比值为0.8~2.2,U-Pb谐和年龄为356.4±1.7Ma(MSWD=1.3,n=19)。大约12Ma的时差说明存在两次火山喷发事件,在这两次火山喷发的间歇形成了巨厚生物碎屑灰岩(1000m)。这种间歇性的火山喷发在西天山地区普遍发育,形成了规模巨大的滨海相火山-沉积盆地。剖面下部的英安岩与剖面上部的流纹岩的锆石具有不同的微量元素组成,预示着其岩浆源区性质的差异。 相似文献

Sulfur dioxide measured at the Visitor’s Center of Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park, USA exhibits seasonal and diurnal patterns
and is sensitive to rainfall, but the relationship between wind direction and SO2 is too inconsistent to support deterministic predictions of hourly SO2 based on hourly wind direction. Although SO2 at the Visitor Center has usually been below regulatory levels, high SO2 levels and adverse health effects remain a concern. This investigation identified patterns in hourly SO2 based on wind direction, time of day, month, and rainfall occurrence using 4 years of hourly data. Empirical probabilities
were investigated using a Bayesian approach. Winds from the volcanic vents were rare, but when they did occur SO2 was elevated about half of the time. Conversely, half of the hours with elevated SO2 occurred when volcanic vents were not directly upwind. Episodes of elevated SO2 tended to occur during the months of November–March and between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Rainfall was associated with a marked
reduction in SO2 (29–81% depending on wind direction). Individuals that wish to avoid exposure to volcanic fumes can take these patterns into

Continuous seismic noise is recorded in the volcanic island of Tenerife (Canary Islands, Spain). The origin of this noise,
strongly augmented by anthropogenic contamination, is still under debate. In this paper, we discuss the relationship between
this noise and the occurrence of local tectonic events in the same area. In particular, transitions are sought in the time
evolution of dynamic parameters computed on the seismic noise, and examples are shown where abrupt transitions may be associated
with the occurrence of tectonic events. These transitions provide further evidence of the existence of a natural origin for
at least part of the seismic noise, which is strongly contaminated—if not dominated—by anthropogenic sources. 相似文献

Nisyros island, a Quaternary volcanic center located at the SE of the Aegean Volcanic Arc, has been in the past characterized by periods of intense seismic activity accompanied sometimes by hydrothermal explosions, the last one being in 1887. The recent long lasting episode of unrest (1995–1998) in the area is the first instrumentally documented providing information on the behavior of the volcano. Evidence from seismicity and SAR interferometry suggests that the presently active part of the Kos–Nisyros volcano-tectonic complex is located at the NW coast of Nisyros island defining an area much smaller than the whole volcano-tectonic area. Seismicity patterns vary both temporally and spatially consistently with different rates of vertical ground deformation inferred from SAR interferometry. These observations help us to discuss the different elements controlling the behavior of the volcanic system such as: the existence, location and timing of magma chamber inflation, the occurrence of tensile failure at the boundaries of the chamber and the possibility of magmatic fluids being expelled to form a shallow magmatic intrusion, the seismic failure and migration of hypocenters indicating shallow magma transport. 相似文献

Pyroclastic materials dispersed in recent volcanic eruptions in Northern Patagonia were analysed in order to characterize the volcanic provenance by the geochemical fingerprint. The volcanic products studied were dispersed by eruptions of volcanoes Calbuco in 1961, Chaitén in 2008, and Cordón Caulle Volcanic Complex (CCVC) in 1960 and 2011. The geochemical characterization was based on the determination of 35 major and trace elements by Instrumental Neutron Activation Analysis, including geochemical tracer such as Rare Earth Elements (REE). The study of the pyroclastic products also included the morphological analysis by petrographic and scanning electron microscopy, and the mineralogical characterization by X-ray diffraction.Geochemical tracers determined in the glass fraction of the dispersed pyroclastic materials allowed a clear discrimination of the three volcanoes that gave origin to the tephras, the three of them with different evolution degree. Tephras from 1960 and 2011 CCVC eruptions showed the same geochemical signature. The geochemical parameters providing the differential characterization are the normalized REE and multi-element patterns, the Eu anomaly, the heavy to light and medium to light REE normalized ratios, and the Cs, Sc, Rb, Ta and Th concentrations. The bulk glassy fraction showed the same composition for each volcanic eruption in samples collected even in distant sites (from 100 to 220 km in Chaitén, 2008, and from 80 to 650 km in CCVC 2011), attesting to be the most reliable material for correlation purposes.According to the mineralogy, cristobalite was found in volcano Chaitén tephra as an indicator of such origin. Arsenic, an element of environmental interest, exhibited concentrations ranging from 6 to 16 μg g−1, with the highest values corresponding to Puyehue–Cordón Caulle and Chaitén products. 相似文献
