In this paper, the evolution of focused waves using different paddle displacements (piston type) under laboratory conditions is presented. It is well known that in intermediate water depths, linear paddle displacements will generate spurious, free, sub and super harmonics. Thus, a second order correction to suppress these spurious free sub and super harmonics was used to generate the focused waves. The focused waves were generated in the laboratory using a linear superimposition principle, in which the wave paddle displacement is derived based on the sum of a number of sinusoidal components at discrete frequencies, whose phases are accordingly set to focus at a particular location. For this method of generation, the second order wave maker theory proposed by Schäffer [24] can be easily adopted and was used in the present study. Two different centre frequencies (fc = 0.68 Hz and 1.08 Hz) with three different bandwidth ratios (Δf/fc = 0.5, 0.75 and 1.0) were tested in a constant water depth, to consider both narrow and broadband spectra. These test cases correspond to wave focusing packets propagating in intermediate and deep water regions. Further, for each wave packet, two different amplitudes were considered in order to analyze non-breaking and breaking cases. Thus, by systematically generating the wave packets using the linear and second order paddle displacements, the analysis was carried out for the spectral and temporal evolution of selected long waves. The temporal evolution of the selected harmonics was analyzed using the Inverse Fast Fourier Transform (IFFT), to show the propagation of the spurious, free, long waves. Further, the variations in energy for the lower, higher and primary frequency ranges are reported for different wave paddle displacements. The analysis revealed that for the broadband spectrum the differences are more pronounced when using linear paddle displacements. We have also noticed a shift in focusing/breaking location and time (i.e. premature) due to the increase in crest height using linear displacements. The purpose of this paper is to explore the promise of utilizing some relatively new feedback control techniques in ecosystem management. First, we set forth a basic ecological-economic model of a predator-prey-hunting system in which both the predator and prey have use(flow) and non-use(stock) value and when the predator can inflict transboundary damages. We then use new data from the US Mountain West to show how a particular feedback approach—linear parameter-varying(LPV) control—can be utilized in this context. Our LPV model is able to quantify the cost of managing disturbances that inevitably arise as a manager tries to keep the actual path of the system "close" to its optimum. The results suggest management strategies in mountain ecosystems that feature large, mammalian carnivores. 相似文献

Using two-dimensional linear water wave theory, we consider the problem of normal water wave (internal wave) propagation over
small undulations in a channel flow consisting of a two-layer fluid in which the upper layer is bounded by a fixed wall, an
approximation to the free surface, and the lower one is bounded by a bottom surface that has small undulations. The effects
of surface tension at the surface of separation is neglected. Assuming irrotational motion, a perturbation analysis is employed
to calculate the first-order corrections to the velocity potentials in the two-layer fluid by using Green’s integral theorem
in a suitable manner and the reflection and transmission coefficients in terms of integrals involving the shape function c(x) representing the bottom undulation. Two special forms of the shape function are considered for which explicit expressions
for reflection and transmission coefficients are evaluated. For the specific case of a patch of sinusoidal ripples having
the same wave number throughout, the reflection coefficient up to the first order is an oscillatory function in the quotient
of twice the interface wave number and the ripple wave number. When this quotient approaches one, the theory predicts a resonant
interaction between the bed and the interface, and the reflection coefficient becomes a multiple of the number of ripples.
High reflection of the incident wave energy occurs if this number is large. Again, when a patch of sinusoidal ripples having
two different wave numbers for two consecutive stretches is considered, the interaction between the bed and the interface
near resonance attains in the neighborhood of two (singular) points along the x-axis (when the ripple wave number of the bottom undulation become approximately twice as large as the interface wave number).

This paper presents a new approach for the evaluation of accurate lateral force distributions for the Linear Static Analysis
(LSA) of Base Isolated (BI-) buildings. In essence, the proposed lateral force distributions depend on a factor measuring
the degree of non- linearity of the Isolation System (IS) and on the ratio between the effective period of the BI-structure
(Tis) and the fundamental period of the Fixed Based (FB-) structure (Tfb). The proposed approach is fully compatible with the Direct Displacement-Based Design (DDBD) method, recently developed by
Priestley and co-workers. The proposed lateral force distributions have been derived from the results of a large number of
Nonlinear Time-History Analyses (NTHA), carried out on six numerical models of multi-storey buildings, differing in storey
number (3, 5 and 8, respectively) and fundamental period of vibration (from 0.25 to 0.8 s) in the fixed-base configuration.
A great variety of Isolation Systems (ISs), characterised by either Elasto-Plastic with Hardening (EPH) or Flag-Shaped (FS)
force-displacement behaviour, have been considered in the NTHA. The numerical parameters of the IS models have been varied
in such a way as to reproduce the actual mechanical behaviour of the main currently used ISs, including: (i) Lead Rubber Bearings
(LRB), (ii) High-Damping Rubber Bearings (HDRB), (iii) Friction Pendulum Bearings (FPB), (iv) combinations of flat Sliding
Bearings (SB) and Low-Damping Rubber Bearings (LDRB) and (v) Combinations of flat SB and re-centring devices based on Shape
Memory Alloys (SMA). Comparisons between the storey shear forces derived with the proposed method and those obtained from

This paper provides a status update on the development of the Swedish wave energy research area located close to Lysekil on the Swedish West coast. The Lysekil project is run by the Centre for Renewable Electric Energy Conversion at Uppsala University. The project was started in 2004 and currently has permission to run until the end of 2013. During this time period 10 grid-connected wave energy converters, 30 buoys for studies on environmental impact, and a surveillance tower for monitoring the interaction between waves and converters will be installed and studied. To date the research area holds one complete wave energy converter connected to a measuring station on shore via a sea cable, a Wave Rider? buoy for wave measurements, 25 buoys for studies on environmental impact, and a surveillance tower. The wave energy converter is based on a linear synchronous generator which is placed on the sea bed and driven by a heaving point absorber at the ocean surface. The converter is directly driven, i.e. it has no gearbox or other mechanical or hydraulic conversion system. This results in a simple and robust mechanical system, but also in a somewhat more complicated electrical system. 相似文献

A proposed method for mitigating ground-borne vibration generated by high-speed trains is the usage of rubber-modified asphalt concrete as a ballast mat material. To gauge this material's influence in vibration control, a dynamic finite element code that models distinct damping properties in a large, nonhomogenous system was created. A linear hysteretic damping model is used to capture the dissipative mechanisms of each material; frequency domain substructuring is used for computational efficiency. Vibratory responses utilizing different ballast mat materials in a high-speed rail foundation are compared. It is shown that rubber-modified asphalt concrete results in a general reduction of motion, particularly in directions horizontally parallel and perpendicular to the train's passage. The described modeling procedure may be used for any dynamic analysis where the preservation of material damping characteristics is desired. 相似文献

Based on a two-dimensional linear water wave theory, this study develops the boundary element method (BEM) to examine normally incident wave scattering by a fixed, submerged, horizontal, impermeable plate and a submerged permeable breakwater in water of finite depth. Numerical results for the transmission coefficients are also presented. In addition, the numerical technique's accuracy is demonstrated by comparing the numerical results with previously published numerical and experimental ones. According to that comparison, the transmission coefficient relies not only on the submergence of the horizontal impermeable plate and the height of the permeable breakwater, but also on the distance between horizontal plate and permeable breakwater. Results presented herein confirm that the transmission coefficient is minimum for the distance approximately equal to four times the water depth. 相似文献

The signal excited by the airgun source is weak, and is easily affected by human motion noise, instrument failure, and earthquake and blasting events, resulting in insufficient utilization of the amplitude information of the airgun signal. The effective removal of interference and the preservation of true amplitude information of the signal is difficult in airgun signal processing. Based on the randomness of noise and the highly repetitive characteristics of airgun signals, we propose probability data screening method. The airgun data from experiments conducted in the Ansha Reservoir and Shanmei Reservoir in Fujian Province in June, 2017 are taken as the research object to assess the effect in practical applications. The results show that the probability data screening method can automatically reject multiple interferences and effectively preserve the amplitude information of the signal by screening out large amplitude records in appropriate proportions. Compared with direct linear superposition, the probability-related linear superposition method can effectively reduce the impact of abnormal interference, and significantly improve the quality of the observed data. 相似文献
