Elastic and thermoelastic constants of large single crystals of Ca2MgSi2O7 and Ca2ZnSi2O7 have been derived from ultrasonic resonance frequencies of plane-parallel plates and their shift upon variation of temperature, respectively. In addition, coefficients of thermal expansion and dielectric constants were determined. Both species possess quite similar properties. As observed in other isotypic magnesium and zinc compounds, the mean elastic stiffness and the deviation from the Cauchy relations are significantly larger in the zinc compound, due to a covalent contribution of the Zn–O bond. Positive thermoelastic constants T44 and T66 in Ca2MgSi2O7 allow temperature-independent ultrasonic generators and oscillators to be manufactured. 相似文献

The right-rectangular parallelepiped resonance (RPR) form of resonant ultrasound spectroscopy (RUS) is applied to monoclinic crystal symmetry to determine the 13 adiabatic elastic constants, Cij, of single-crystal chrome-diopside Di0.93Hd0.03Ur0.02X0.02 (Di, diopside; Hd, hedenbergite; Ur, ureyite; X, other or unknown). These data represent the first published values of the elastic tensor for a monoclinic single-crystal determined by the RPR method, thus demonstrating the feasibility of this method for studying elasticity of low-symmetry crystals. The lowest 62 modal frequencies of a gem-quality specimen were measured and identified at ambient temperature and pressure. Inverting the modal frequencies results in, respectively C11, C22, C33, C44, C55, C66, C12, C13, C23, C15, C25, C35, C46 values (GPa) of 228.1(1.0), 181.1(0.6), 245.4(1.3), 78.9(0.3), 68.2(0.2), 78.1(0.2), 78.8(0.5), 70.2(0.7), 61.1(0.7), 7.9(0.5), 5.9(0.5), 39.7(0.4), and 6.4(0.2), where numbers in parentheses indicate experimental uncertainty. The corresponding isotropic bulk, KS, and shear, G, moduli are 116.5 (0.9) and 72.8(0.4) GPa, respectively. When comparing these results with other pyroxene data, we find systematic correlations between M2 site composition and Cij values for most, but not all, moduli. Unusual compositional dependence near end-member diopside is seen for a few moduli, and is propagated to the KS and G moduli, which should prompt a reexamination of some Cij values of end-member diopside. 相似文献

Identification of debris‐flow hazard areas necessitates the knowledge of the flow thickness and the runout distance. Both have been investigated using a numerical runout model. On the Faucon stream (South French Alps), representative of clay‐shale basins, results of various rheological tests and numerical experiments are presented and discussed. The calibration of the model was undertaken using the results of both geomorphological surveys and sedimentological analyses. Rheological tests using either a parallel‐plate rheometer, a coaxial rheometer, slump tests, and an inclined plane were carried out on several samples. Results have shown that the flow behaviour could be described by an Herschel‐Bulkley constitutive equation. The rheological responses of several natural suspensions collected from surficial deposits (sandstones, moraines, weathered black marls) were also investigated. In order to model the runout of the flow, the model BING was used. The model describes well the influence of each type of sediment on the behaviour (runout distance, deposit thickness) of the flow, although the velocities were significantly overestimated. We develop a steady-state fluid-mechanical analysis describingthe effect of strain partitioning on viscous energy dissipation.As observed in experimental studies of shear deformation ofpartially molten rocks, strain partitions when melt segregatesbecause viscosity is reduced in regions of elevated melt fraction.The equations derived here are based on parameters measuredin experiments, describing the evolution of melt distributionand rheological properties. We find that the dissipation dependsstrongly on the configuration of the melt-rich network of shearzones, including the average angle, volume fraction of meltand amplification of strain rate in the melt-rich bands. Minimain energy dissipation as a function of band angle develop, correspondingto configurations of melt networks that minimize the differencein mean stress between the band and the non-band regions. Wepropose that the organization of band networks occurs by theinterplay between strain localization and viscosity variationsassociated with melt segregation. The band networks maintaina steady-state angle during shear by continuously pumping meltthrough the network. The development of strain partitioningin melt-rich networks will modify the energetics of meltingand melt transport by efficiently extracting melt and reducingeffective viscosity. Crack damage results in a decrease of elastic wave velocities and in the development of anisotropy. Using non-interactive
crack effective medium theory as a fundamental tool, we calculate dry and wet elastic properties of cracked rocks in terms
of a crack density tensor, average crack aspect ratio and mean crack fabric orientation from the solid grains and fluid elastic
properties. Using this same tool, we show that both the anisotropy and shear-wave splitting of elastic waves can be derived.
Two simple crack distributions are considered for which the predicted anisotropy depends strongly on the saturation, reaching
up to 60% in the dry case. Comparison with experimental data on two granites, a basalt and a marble, shows that the range
of validity of the non-interactive effective medium theory model extends to a total crack density of approximately 0.5, considering
symmetries up to orthorhombic. In the isotropic case, Kachanov's (1994) non-interactive effective medium model was used in
order to invert elastic wave velocities and infer both crack density and aspect ratio evolutions. Inversions are stable and
give coherent results in terms of crack density and aperture evolution. Crack density variations can be interpreted in terms
of crack growth and/or changes of the crack surface contact areas as cracks are being closed or opened respectively. More
importantly, the recovered evolution of aspect ratio shows an exponentially decreasing aspect ratio (and therefore aperture)
with pressure, which has broader geophysical implications, in particular on fluid flow. The recovered evolution of aspect
ratio is also consistent with current mechanical theories of crack closure. In the anisotropic cases—both transverse isotropic
and orthorhombic symmetries were considered—anisotropy and saturation patterns were well reproduced by the modelling, and
mean crack fabric orientations we recovered are consistent with in situ geophysical imaging.
Our results point out that: (1) It is possible to predict damage, anisotropy and saturation in terms of a crack density tensor
and mean crack aspect ratio and orientation; (2) using well constrained wave velocity data, it is possible to extrapolate
the contemporaneous evolution of crack density, anisotropy and saturation using wave velocity inversion as a tool; 3) using
such an inversion tool opens the door in linking elastic properties, variations to permeability. 相似文献
