On the basis of the time series observations from a temperature chain and an acoustic Doppler current profiler on the continental shelf of the northern South China Sea, a sequence of internal solitary waves (ISWs) and background waves (BWs, including internal tides and near-inertial waves) on the continental shelf were captured simultaneously after the transit of Typhoon Neast in October 2011. These measurementsprovided a unique opportunity to explore the influence of BWs on the ISWs. The BWs appeared a conversion on the current strength and vertical mode structure during the observational period. The BWs were dominated by weak and mode-one waves before October 2 and then turned to strong and high-mode waves after that time. Meanwhile, the ISWs displayed different wave structures before and after October 2, which was closely related to BWs' changes. According to the current profiles of BWs, the high-mode wave structure with strong current could significantly strengthen the vertical shear of ISWs in the near-surface layer and promote the breaking of ISWs, and thus it may play an important role in affecting the background current condition. 相似文献

The barotropic instability is traditionally viewed as an initial-value problem wherein wave perturbations of a laterally sheared flow in a homogeneous uniformly rotating fluid that temporally grows into vortices. The vortices are capable of mixing fluid on the continental shelf with fluid above the continental slope and adjacent deep-sea region. However, the instability can also be viewed as a boundary-value problem. For example, a laterally sheared coastal flow is perturbed at some location, creating perturbations that grow spatially downstream. This process leads to a time periodic flow that exhibits instability in space. This article first examines the linear barotropic instability problem with real frequency and complex wavenumber. It is shown that there exists a frequency band within which a spatially growing wave is present. It is then postulated that far downstream the spatially unstable flow emerges into a chain of identically axisymmetric vortices. Conservation of mass, momentum and energy fluxes are applied to determine the diameter, spacing and the speed of translation of the vortices. 相似文献

Abstract With the help of simplifying approximations, we have derived expressions for the non-diffusive fluxes of the angular momentum which are brought about by the action of Coriolis forces on the convective motion. The original turbulence, which is not perturbed by the Coriolis forces, is considered given and weakly anisotropic, the anisotropy having a preferred radial direction. The eddy viscosities are evaluated. Hence, a closed equation for the angular velocity is derived, and then solved for the case of slow rotation. It is shown that the differential rotation is generated most effectively in the case of moderate rotation when the Rossby number is of order unity. At small Rossby numbers, the rotation differentiality is inhibited. A negative eddy viscosity is suggested for the case of rapid rotation. Some implications for the Sun and other astrophysical objects are discussed. 相似文献

Abstract The propagation of Alfvén waves along a uniform horizontal field in a highly conducting incompressible fluid, subject to the convective forces produced by a uniform vertical temperature gradient, is treated in a Boussinesq approximation. It is shown that there are exact solutions with large amplitude but restricted form. Their restricted form means that an arbitrary disturbing force produces other motions as well as Alfvén waves. An arbitrary initial disturbance of small amplitude produces waves whose state of polarization varies along the direction of propagation. For large amplitudes, however, any mixtures of polarization states causes scattering into new modes. 相似文献

中江19H井是川西中江地区的一口长水平段水平井,设计井深3830 m,水平段长990 m。目的层为下沙溪庙组,是开发中江地区该层位的首口水平井,邻井参考资料少。中江地区地层裂缝发育,普遍存在井壁失稳现象,极易产生掉块,同时,该井设计二开裸眼段长,更恶化了井壁失稳,施工中产生大量掉块,掉块在井眼局部堆积形成砂桥造成该井水平段卡钻。仔细分析了该井卡钻原因,提出了优化钻井液性能、优选钻井工具、优化水平段钻具组合、加强井眼净化等相应预防技术措施,顺利完成了该井的后期侧钻施工。为川西中江地区下沙溪庙目的层的开发提供了宝贵施工经验。 相似文献

A series of undrained monotonic triaxial compression tests were performed on natural, medium-dense (relative density (RD) = 50%) Chlef sand containing 0.5% of non-plastic fines, under different confining pressures of 50 kPa, 100 kPa, and 200 kPa. This article focuses on distinctive states of the monotonic undrained response of sands, namely the critical state, the phase transformation state, the quasi-steady state, and the state of undrained instability (onset of flow liquefaction). Specimens were prepared using dry funnel pluviation and wet deposition to investigate the effect of the initial sand fabric on these states. The present data suggest that the initial fabric of the sand appears to have a significant effect on the undrained behavior in the early stages of shearing, with its influence vanishing at large strains. Wet deposition specimens demonstrate considerably larger undrained instability state strength than their dry funnel pluviation counterparts, and a unique critical state locus is reached by both dry funnel pluviation and wet deposition. 相似文献

Kelvin-Helmholtz instability (KHI) is a fundamental fluid dynamical process that develops in a velocity shear layer. It is excited on the tail-flanks of the Earth's magnetosphere where the flowing magnetosheath plasma and the stagnant magnetospheric plasma sit adjacent to each other. This instability is thought to induce vortical structures and play an important role in plasma transport there. While KHI vortices have been detected, the earlier observations were performed only on one flank at a time and questions related to dawn-dusk asymmetry were not addressed. Here, we report a case where KHI vortices grow more or less simultaneously and symmetrically on both flanks, despite all the factors that may have broken the symmetry. Yet, energy distributions of ions in and around the vortices show a remarkable dawn-dusk asymmetry. Our results thus suggest that although the initiation and development of the KHI depend primarily on the macroscopic properties of the flow, the observed enhancement of ion energy transport around the dawn side vortices may be linked to microphysical processes including wave-particle interactions. Possible coupling between macro- and micro-scales, if it is at work, suggests a role for KHI not only within the Earth's magnetosphere (e.g., magnetopause and geomagnetic tail) but also in other regions where shear flows of magnetized plasma play important roles. 相似文献
