We examine horizontal stresses in mudrocks for the case of one-dimensional mechanical compression through laboratory measurements of the horizontal to vertical effective stress ratio, i.e. K0. Previous empirical relationships which predict horizontal stresses as a function of depth or overburden stress are site specific and cannot easily be generalized. The K0 values of various resedimented mudrocks from a diverse range of geologic origins have been investigated for effective stresses ranging from 0.1 to 100 MPa. The value of K0 during normal compression (K0NC) varies systematically as a function of both stress level and mudrock composition. K0NC generally increases with stress level and values as high as 0.90 have been measured at effective stresses approaching 100 MPa. This finding implies that high horizontal stresses can develop at depth solely due to normal mechanical compression and that tectonic stresses, creep, or geologic unloading are not necessary. Correlations have been developed which allow K0NC to be estimated from a mudrock's liquid limit, an easily and inexpensively measured property which reflects both the quantity and type of clay minerals present in a mudrock. High liquid limit, smectite-rich mudrocks display a more rapid increase in K0NC with increasing stress compared to more silty, low liquid limit mudrocks. K0 measurements made on laboratory resedimented specimens compare well with measurements made on intact core samples as well as in situ tests. Tests carried out to examine K0 for overconsolidated materials show that K0 during unloading can be well approximated by a power-law function originally proposed by Schmidt (1966). An original equation is proposed to describe K0 during reloading. Our experimental results reveal sediment behavior at high stress levels that has not been previously observed and provide useful information on how horizontal stresses evolve within basins.  相似文献

罗北凹地液体钾矿床位于新疆罗布泊地区北部,是一个大型的综合性盐类矿床。对矿区两处"成矿远景区"进行专门研究,从其与相邻地带的地层接触关系、水文地质和氢氧同位素条件分析,指出此区具备与罗北凹地相似的液体钾矿成矿条件,仅地层时代不同期,与矿体边界及周边湖岸阶地形成一种地垒模式,为指导在本地区或其它类似地区寻找新的不同时期、相同成矿条件的成矿带提出一种成矿模式。  相似文献

Clay mineral composition and geotechnical index properties of marine clays collected from Singapore, Korea, and Japan were investigated, and the correlation of clay mineral composition with the consistency limits and activity of the clays was examined. Predominant clay minerals were kaolinite for Singapore clay, kaolinite, vermiculite, and illite for Pusan clay, and smectite for Hachirogata and Ariake clay from Japan. The activity of clay indicates that Singapore clay is classified as normal or inactive, Pusan clay as normal, and Hachirogata and Ariake clays mostly as active. Significant positive correlations were found between smectite percentage in bulk soil and the liquid and plastic limits of the clays.  相似文献

Effect of the various concentrations of NaCl and CaCl2 on the four different soil-bentonite mixtures has been evaluated. The results show that the liquid limit of the mixtures decreases with an increase in the salt concentration. Liquid limit decreased significantly with an increase in CaCl2 concentration from 0 to 0.1 N. However, a further increase in the concentration did not produce any significant decrease in liquid limit. A quite opposite trend was observed for the NaCl solution. An increase in NaCl concentration from 0 to 0.1 N did not produce any major decrease in the liquid limit, but a further increase in concentration from 0.1 to 1 N decreased the liquid limit significantly. Consolidation tests were carried out on the mixtures to evaluate the effect of mineralogical composition of the bentonite on the hydraulic conductivity (k) of the mixture in the presence of various salts concentrations. The k for any mixtures was found to be decreasing with decrease in the salt concentration. At relatively low concentration, Ca2+ had more effect on the k in comparison to the same concentration of Na+. However, at 1 N of NaCl and CaCl2 almost an equal value of k was observed. A comparison of the performance of four bentonites showed that the mixture with bentonite having highest exchangeable sodium percentage (ESP) exhibited the lowest k when permeated with de-ionized (DI) water, however, k increased with an increase in the salt concentration. Similarly, mixture with a bentonite of lower ESP exhibited a higher k with DI water but with the increase in the salt concentration alteration in the k, compared to all other mixtures, was relatively less.  相似文献

Catastrophic failures of blanket bogs, involving the escape and outflow of large volumes of semi-liquid basal peat, are well-known phenomena in Ireland but have only very rarely been reported from elsewhere in the world. Their precise causes and mechanisms are as yet unclear. The liquid limit (w L) was identified as a potentially useful indicator of the susceptibility of peat to such failure because peat has extremely high natural water contents and, as an index property, w L takes no account of the properties or structures of highly heterogeneous intact peat. However, the usual procedure for determining the w L of peat is not fully standardised. Prepared samples will normally include potentially highly reactive particles of disrupted fibres and wood fragments that would not be present in such freshly disintegrated form in the field. This paper presents results from w L determinations of peat obtained from the scar margins of three bog failures in northwest Ireland, using four different test procedures including a method involving wet-sieving of the peat to separate the humified <425-μm fraction for testing without incorporating artificially fragmented particles of fibres. The sampled peat was classified as H8–H10 according to the von Post humification scale. The fibre contents varied between the sites, but the ash contents were <3% in all but one test sample, and bulk densities (dry and field-wet) of the peat from all three sites were almost identical. w L results from the wet-sieving method were 708–785%, compared with 633–980% from the standard method. The highest measured field water contents exceeded the wet-sieved w L for all three of the field sites. Tests of cone penetration into intact peat cores demonstrated the influence of the reinforcing effect of in situ fibres. The results strongly suggest the need to adopt a fully standardised procedure for determining the w L of peat. Additional shear vane measurements of intact and remoulded peat from a bog failure in Northern Ireland indicated a very high ‘strength sensitivity’. This leads to the suggestion that a slight disturbance of basal peat can lead to a loss of strength that rapidly propagates as local stresses change and cause further remoulding as water contents exceed w L.  相似文献

In this study, the removal of nitrate ions from aqueous solutions with liquid membrane technique has been investigated for different organic solvent types in which solubilized tetradecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (TDTMABr) as carrier. n-butyl alcohol, chloroform, and mixture of chloroform + n-hexane (n-hexane 85% + chloroform 15%) were used as organic solvent. Kinetic parameters (k 1d, k 2m, k 2a, t max, R mmax, J mmax, J amax) were calculated from obtained data. time R a values of mixture, butyl alcohol, and chloroform are 0.81, 0.78, and 0.55, respectively. Similarly R d, R m, and t max values of the mixture equal to 0.14, 0.04, and 87.92 min, respectively. This behavior of the system shows the organic solvent type is an effective parameter on separation yield. It can be concluded that the mixture is the most effective organic solvent type among the investigated ones, because liquid membrane systems should be operated within the range of having the R m, R d, and t max values are minimum while R a values are maximum.  相似文献

The Earth’s core contains light elements and their identification is essential for our understanding of the thermal structure and convection in the core that drives the geodynamo and heat flow from the core to the mantle. Solubilities of Si and O in liquid iron coexisting with (Mg,Fe)SiO3-perovskite, a major constituent of the lower mantle, were investigated at temperatures between 2,320 and 3,040 K at 27 GPa. It was observed that Si dissolved in the liquid iron up to 1.70 wt% at 3,040 K and O dissolved in the liquid iron up to 7.5 wt% at 2,800 K. It was also clearly seen that liquid iron reacts with (Mg,Fe)SiO3-perovskite to form magnesiowüstite and it contains Si and O at 27 GPa and at 2,640 and 3,040 K. The amounts of Si and O in the liquid iron are 1.70 and 2.25 wt% at 3,040 K, respectively. The solubilities of Si and O in liquid iron coexisting with (Mg,Fe)SiO3-perovskite have strong positive temperature dependency. Hence, they can be plausible candidates for the light elements in the core.  相似文献

针对液态二氧化碳(LC)的播撒问题, 给出了其播撒装置的基本特征、播撒率及主要影响因子;用FSSP-100 、2D-C粒子测量仪、三用滴谱仪及能见度仪等设备测定了LC播出物的相态、粒子形状和尺度谱。测定表明:LC播出物为液、固、气态二氧化碳三相共存混合物。液态、固态粒子存在时间约100~101s, 粒子尺度10-1~102μm, 播出物流束中单位体积质量可达3.6 g·m-3。这些测定结果为使用LC作为冷云催化剂提供了可靠依据, 为国内在较暖云顶层状云中开展人工增雨作业提供了合适的催化技术。  相似文献
