Hydrodynamic instability of an accelerating ionization front (IF) is investigated with 2D hydrodynamic simulations, including absorption of incident photoionizing photons, recombination in the HII region, and radiative molecular cooling. When the amplitude of the perturbation is large enough, nonlinear dynamics of the IF triggered by the separation of the IF from the cloud surface is observed. This causes the second harmonic of the imposed perturbation to appear on the cloud surfaces, whereas the perturbation in density of ablated gas in the HII region remains largely single mode. This mismatch of modes between the IF and the density perturbation in the HII region prevents the strong stabilization effect seen in the linear regime. Large growth of the perturbation caused by Rayleigh-Taylor-like instability is observed late in time.  相似文献

We present models for the chemistry in gas moving towards the ionization front of an HII region. When it is far from the ionization front, the gas is highly depleted of elements more massive than helium. However, as it approaches the ionization front, ices are destroyed and species formed on the grain surfaces are injected into the gas phase. Photodissociation removes gas phase molecular species as the gas flows towards the ionization front. We identify models for which the OH column densities are comparable to those measured in observations undertaken to study the magnetic fields in star forming regions and give results for the column densities of other species that should be abundant if the observed OH arises through a combination of the liberation of H2O from surfaces and photodissociation. They include CH3OH, H2CO, and H2S. Observations of these other species may help establish the nature of the OH spatial distribution in the clouds, which is important for the interpretation of the magnetic field results.  相似文献

Summary Ultracompact (UC)HII regions are manifestations of newly formed massive stars that are still embedded in their natal molecular cloud. They are among the brightest and most luminous single objects in the Galaxy at far infrared and radio wavelengths. Recent high spatial resolution studies, particularly at radio wavelengths, have greatly contributed to our understanding of these dynamic objects and the impact they have on their environment. A summary is given of our current understanding of the physical properties, morphologies, dynamics, number and distribution in the Galaxy, and molecular environments of UCHII regions. Recent models of the circumnebular dust imply that the graphite/silicate abundance ratio is about half that of dust in the diffuse interstellar medium. The dust cocoons are large, cool, and optically thick shortward of a few microns. There are apparently between 1700 and 3000 UCHII regions in the Galaxy. This represents 10–20% of the total O star population. There are too many UCHII regions (just counting those studied with the VLA) to be consistent with the short dynamical lifetimes of this very compact stage of evolution. Both the morphologies and the large number can be understood if UC HII regions are bow shocks. Models of stellar wind supported bow shocks are discussed and consequences for the dynamics and morphologies of the ionized and molecular gas are explored.  相似文献

Comparison of submillimetre continuum observations of the L1204/S140 complex with previous high resolution CS, NH3 and CI observations provides evidence that, for the first time, demonstrates the PDR and outflow are intimately linked. The only scenario that is able to explain all of the available molecular and atomic emission line data and our submillimetre continuum data, is one in which the outflow has expanded towards the edge of the molecular cloud and the edge of the blueshifted outflow lobe is now bounded by the expanding HII region. The NH3 and continuum emission emanate from the inner edge of the outflow lobe, shielded from the external UV field.  相似文献

It is recognized that the interstellar methanol-107 GHz masers and OH-4.765 GHz masers towards Class Ⅱ sources are associated with each other and coexist towards ultracompact HⅡ regions. Therefore we suggest a new pumping mechanism-methanol masers without population inversion. It can explain the formation of 107GHz methanol masers, with the 4.765GHz OH masers acting as a driving coherent microwave field. It is argued that this mechanism is compatible with the astronomical conditions.  相似文献

Spectra from SDSS DR5 are used for a spectral study of seven HII regions in Kazarian galaxies. The abundances of helium and heavy elements, and also the quantity of ionizing stars and the star formation rate in these galaxies, are determined. The oxygen abundance, 12+log(O/H) lies between 7.94 and 8.35. The mean abundance ratios log(S/O), log(Ar/O), and log(Ne/O) are equal to −1.63, −2.37, and −0.78, respectively. For these HII regions, log(N/O) lies between −0.63 and −1.37. On an N/O-O/H diagram they occupy the same area as high excitation HII regions. In all likelihood the ages of the HII regions studied here exceed the 100–300 million years, required for the enrichment in nitrogen by intermediate-mass stars.. To explain the variety of observed optical emission stratification in the shells around Wolf-Rayet stars, we have calculated the nonstationary cooling of a homogeneous gas layer heated to a temperature (0.4–2) × 105 K. We have assumed that the nebula is ionized by its central star and consists of a rarefied gas and a set of clouds with different densities through which adiabatic shock waves produced by the stellar wind propagate. Based on this model, we have determined the sequence in which the emission in Hα and in nebular oxygen lines appears. The Hα emission attributable to the electron-collision excitation of hydrogen atoms is produced earliest on the periphery of nebulae, the [O III] line emission follows next, and, finally, the Hα recombination emission is produced. The results obtained are in good agreement with the observational data.  相似文献

To investigate the physical properties of HII regions and some PNe about 4' in size, a DEFPOS Fabry-Perot spectrometer has been redesigned and set up at the (Antalya/Bakirlitepe, Turkey), The spectrometer has a 4' circular field of view and a velocity resolution of 27.27 km s- 1 (a spectral resolving power of 11000) over a 200 km s-1 spectral window near Hα. This work presents the details of the newly redesigned inphysical results of our new Hα observations selected from the Reynolds et al. (2005) and Fich et al. (1990) papers. The DEFPOS system has been fully tested and the first observations of HII regions and PNe in the Galaxy are used to illustrate the power of the instrument. We feel that our first Fabry-Perot observations can provide a powerful tool for the study of objects with small angular size. In the future, we are planning to prepare a catalog including some physical properties such as radial velocity, line width, and intensity of some PNe and HII regions close to the 4' field of view.  相似文献

The first mapping observations of the bipolar HII region S106 in HCN J = 3 - 2 line were made by KOSMA submillimeter telescope in April, 2004. The results show that there is a bipolar outflow centered on the high-mass star S106 IRS4 and that the flat structure of molecular cloud core is perpendicular to the axis of the outflow. This image roughly corresponds to the optical image where a dark lane bisects the bipolar HII region. Together with the optical, infrared and radio data, we conclude that the central UC HII region and molecular outflow formed before the  相似文献
