We present the Chandra ACIS-S3 data of the old classical nova RR Pic (1925). The source has a count rate of 0.067 ± 0.002 count s−1 in the 0.3–5.0 keV energy range. We detect the orbital period of the underlying binary system in the X-ray wavelengths. We also find that the neutral hydrogen column density differs for orbital minimum and orbital maximum spectra with values  0.25+0.23−0.18× 1022  and  0.64+0.13−0.14× 1022 cm−2  at 3σ confidence level. The X-ray spectrum of RR Pic can be represented by a composite model of bremsstrahlung with a photoelectric absorption, two absorption lines centered around 1.1–1.4 keV and five Gaussian lines centered at emission lines around 0.3–1.1 keV corresponding to various transitions of S, N, O, C, Ne and Fe. The bremsstrahlung temperature derived from the fits ranges from 0.99 to 1.60 keV and the unabsorbed X-ray flux is found to be  2.5+0.4−1.2× 10−13 erg  cm−2 s−1  in the 0.3–5.0 keV range with a luminosity of 1.1 ± 0.2  1031 erg s−1  at 600 pc. We also detect excess emission in the spectrum possibly originating from the reverse shock in the ejecta. A fit with a cooling flow plasma emission model shows enhanced abundances of He, C, N, O and Ne in the X-ray emitting region indicating existence of diffusive mixing.  相似文献

Using photometric data from the Two-Micron All-Sky Survey (2MASS) and GLIMPSE catalogues, I investigate the incidence of mid-infrared (mid-IR) excesses  (∼10 μm)  in G and K stars of luminosity class III. In order to obtain a large sample size, stars are selected using a near-IR colour–magnitude diagram. Sources which are candidates for showing mid-IR excess are carefully examined and modelled to determined whether they are likely to be G/K giants. It is found that mid-IR excesses are present at a level of  (1.8 ± 0.4) × 10−3  . While the origin of these excesses remains uncertain, it is plausible that they arise from debris discs around these stars. I note that the measured incidence is consistent with a scenario in which dust lifetimes in debris discs are determined by Poynting–Robertson drag rather than by collisions.  相似文献

We restudy the possible contribution of mature gamma-ray pulsars to cosmic ray positrons based on the new version of outer gap model. In this model, the inclination angle and average properties of the outer gap are taken into account, and more mature pulsars can have the outer gap and emit high energy photons. Half of the primary particles in the outer gaps will flow back toward the star surface and emit synchrotron photons, which can produce electron/positron pairs by the cascade of pair production. Some of these pairs will escape from the light cylinder and be accelerated to relativistic energies in the pulsar wind driven by low-frequency electromagnetic waves. Using a Monte Carlo method, we obtain a sample of mature gamma-ray pulsars and then calculate the production of the positrons from these pulsars. The observed excess of cosmic positrons can be well explained by this model.  相似文献

Spectral observations of Ap-CP stars with the BTA (Special Astronomical Observatory, Russian Academy of Sciences) using the NES echelle spectrometer have revealed several stars with an anomalous lithium abundance. The oscillating star HD 12098, which is the first roAp star in the northern hemisphere of the sky, merits special attention. Strong, variable LiI 6708 Å line was observed in the spectrum of this star. There are not enough observations for a reliable analysis by Doppler mapping, but there are enough to indicate the presence of lithium spots on the surface of this star similar to the roAp stars HD 83368 and HD 60435, on whose surfaces spots with a high lithium abundance have been reliably detected. Parameters for a model of its atmosphere have been chosen using the method of synthetic spectra based on atmospheric models including lines from the VALD list and several additional blended REE lines calculated by the authors. The profile of the lithium LiI 6708 Å blend has been calculated taking the magnetic field into account using the SYNTHM code. A lithium abundance has been determined for two phases of the rotation of HD 12098 that is anomalously high compared to the solar and meteoritic abundances. The large difference in the lithium abundance in the two phases (in two different regions on the star's surface) exceeds 0.5 dex and is very close to that which we have found by analyzing the spectra of the roAp stars HD 83368 and HD 60435. The gravitational radiation of a neutron star with a weakly coupled superfluid component is considered. It is assumed that regions can exist in the star's core which rotate at substantially higher angular velocities than the observed angular velocities of pulsars. A star of this sort has a quadrupole moment on the order of the maximum value for the neutron star configurations that have been discussed, so it could be a powerful source of gravitational radiation for the planned Advanced LIGO detector. Spectral observations of blue stellar objects from FBS are reported for the purpose of classifying them, discovering interesting new objects, and studying the FBS sample as a whole. 59 FBS objects in the zone with central declination δ =+39° were observed with the 2.6-m telescope at the Byurakan Observatory during 1987–1991. The images have been digitized with a professional scanner and processed by MIDAS in a way similar to CCD spectra. In addition, 4 objects were observed with the BAO-2.6 and OHP-1.93 telescopes using modern techniques during 1997–2000. 3 white dwarfs, 45 hot subdwarfs, 4 HBB stars, and 2 class F stars were discovered. The Gibbs thermodynamic potential of a proton vortex interacting with the normal core of a neutron vortex of radius r << λ (λ is the penetration depth) that is parallel to it and has an outer boundary of radius b is calculated. It is shown that, under this assumption, the capture of only one vortex by the core is energetically favorable. The force acting on the proton vortex owing to the entrained current is found and it is always directed toward the core. The corresponding force for a proton antivortex is directed toward the outer boundary of the neutron vortex. The Ginzburg-Landau equation is solved for a vortex-antivortex system and its Gibbs function is calculated. It is shown that at large distances from the core, vortex-antivortex pairs can form because of fluctuations. Acted on by the entrainment current, the antivortex moves outward, while the vortex stays inside the neutron vortex. It is shown that the best conditions for fluctuational pair production, followed by separation, exist near the outer boundary. The next list of spectral data on blue stellar objects (BSOs) is presented. 58 FBS objects in a zone with a central declination δ = + 35° were observed with the 2.6-m telescope at the Byurakan Observatory during 1990–1991. In addition, 3 objects were observed (3 CCD spectra were obtained) with the BAO 2.6-m and OHP 1.93-m telescopes in 1997–2000 using modern instrumentation. 9 white dwarfs, 47 hot subdwarfs, and 2 HBB stars have been discovered. A model of a young binary system with companions of unequal mass whose orbital plane is inclined at a large angle to the line of sight is examined. The system components are assumed to accrete matter from the remains of the protostellar cloud. We investigate the effect of bulk motion on the detection of molecular outflows in the sources S 146, GGD27, and IRAS 22566 5830. The traditional techniques do allow for bulk motions or systematic VLSR shifts of the core emissions, which may cause contamination of the high velocity gas emissions, and outflows may either fail to be detected or have their properties miscalculated. We used a program to follow the systematic shift of VLSR and better results have been obtained.  相似文献
