THE EAST ASIAN SUBTROPICAL SUMMER MONSOON INDEX AND ITS RELATION WITH THE CLIMATE ANOMALIES IN CHINA
A new East Asian subtropical summer monsoon circulation index is defined, where the barotropic and baroclinic components of circulation are included. Results show that this index can well indicate the interannual variability of summer precipitation and temperature anomalies in China. A strong monsoon is characterized by more rainfall in the Yellow River basin and northern China, less rainfall in the Yangtze River basin, and more rainfall in south and southeast China, in association with higher temperature in most areas of China. Furthermore, comparison is made between the index proposed in this paper and other monsoon indexes in representing climate anomalies in China. 相似文献

以澜沧江跨境径流量观测数据、NCEP/NCAR的U场、V场和NOAA的OLR场资料为基础,应用统计分析方法,研究了纵向岭谷作用下的夏季澜沧江跨境径流量变化与夏季风的关系。结果表明:澜沧江夏季跨境径流量变化在20世纪60年代中期至80年代末期为显著减少时段,而从90年代初期以来则表现出了一种显著增多的演变趋势;夏季澜沧江跨境径流量变化与较低层东西风分量变化的相关性不显著,与较高层东西风分量变化的相关性显著;夏季澜沧江跨境径流量变化与中低层和较高层南北风分量变化的相关性都是显著的,与OLR场变化的负相关性也是显著的;根据这些相关性特征建立的影响澜沧江夏季跨境径流量变化的夏季风环流指数能够较好地反映出澜沧江夏季跨境径流量变化的基本特征和规律。 相似文献

应用广西1960年以来地面88个观测站日平均气温、降水量、相对温度、均风速、总云量等气象资料,以及1970-2001年ECMW F再分析资料850hPa比湿和垂直速度资料,分析南海夏季风异常早晚的广西气象要素特征。结果表明:南海夏季风偏早,广西地面气温偏低,季风爆发当候广西气候特征往多雨方向发生变化,而爆发之后气候趋于较正常状态;南海夏季风偏晚年,爆发前6候,地面气温高,在季风爆发后5候内降水量较多;南海夏季风偏早、偏晚与广西多数固定月、季时间尺度的气温、降水量的关系无明显增加线性相关。 相似文献

In present study,EOF analysis and extended singular value decomposition (ESVD) analysis are performed to explore the relationship between the winter tropical sea surface temperature anomalies (SSTAs) in the Pacific and the following summer rainfall anomalies in China.The two leading modes of winter tropical SSTAs in the Pacific are the SSTAs pattern characterized by "positive anomalies in the East and negative anomalies in the West" like the typical eastern Pacific El Nio and negative anomalies in the West and the central Pacific warming pattern characterized by "positive anomalies in the central region but negative anomalies in the East and West".The intraseasonal variations of the rainfall anomalies during the following summer in China that are associated with the eastern Pacific warming mode are characterized by positive anomalies south of the Yangtze River and negative anomalies in the Yangtze-Huai River Valley in June,and negative anomalies in South China and positive anomalies in the Yangtze River Valley and North China in July and August.In contrast,after the central Pacific warming mode,the corresponding intraseasonal variations of China’s summer rainfall are characterized by a nearly consistent pattern during the three summer months,which is positive in the South China coast and North China and negative in the Yangtze River Valley except for the positive anomalies in the Yangtze-Huai River Valley in July.These results may provide a reference for the seasonal prediction of the summer drought and flood distributions in China. 相似文献

利用中国气象局信息中心提供的西北地区1951~2005年夏季月平均资料集和1958~2002年ERA40资料, 分析近五十年来西北地区夏季降水场的主要变化特征, 及与之相关的大尺度水汽输送和环流场变化, 讨论大尺度环流指数如涛动、 极涡、 赤道太平洋Niño3.4区海温与西北地区夏季降水的相关性。结果表明, 近五十年西北西部尤其是南疆的降水增多, 与西伯利亚 (50°N~60°N, 40°E~70°E) 上空位势高度增加和伊朗高原 (35°N~42.5°N, 60°E~75°E) 上空位势高度减少有很大关系。1987年后, 西北西侧水汽辐合也是该区降水增多的一个重要因素。西北东部降水受海温影响大。此外, 北大西洋涛动、 极涡面积可以反映近几十年来西北降水西增东减的年际波动。极涡面积大小与西北降水第一模态相关性尤其突出, 可以作为考察西北降水变化的一个重要指标。 相似文献

Observations from several data centers together with a categorization method are used to evaluate the IPCC AR4 (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the Fourth Assessment Report) climate models' performance in simulating the interdecadal variations of summer precipitation and monsoon circulation in East Asia. Out of 19 models under examination, 9 models can relatively well reproduce the 1979-1999 mean June-July-August (JJA) precipitation in East Asia, but only 3 models (Category-1 models) can capture the interdecadal variation of precipitation in East Asia. These 3 models are: GFDL-CM2.0, MIROC3.2 (hires), and MIROC3.2 (medres), among which the GFDL-CM2.0 gives the best performance. The reason for the poor performance of most models in simulating the East Asian summer monsoon interdecadal variation lies in that the key dynamic and thermal-dynamic mechanisms behind the East Asian monsoon change are missed by the models, e.g., the large-scale tropospheric cooling and drying over East Asia. In contrast, the Category-1 models relatively well reproduce the variations in vertical velocity and water vapor over East Asia and thus show a better agreement with observations in simulating the pattern of "wet south and dry north" in China in the past 20 years.
It is assessed that a single model's performance in simulating a particular variable has great impacts on the ensemble results. More realistic outputs can be obtained when the multi-model ensemble is carried out using a suite of well-performing models for a specific variable, rather than using all available models. This indicates that although a multi-model ensemble is in general better than a single model, the best ensemble mean cannot be achieved without looking into each member model's performance. 相似文献

The East Asian summer monsoon (EASM) is a distinctive component of the Asian climate system and critically influences the economy and society of the region.To understand the ability of AGCMs in capturing the major features of EASM,10 models that participated in Coupled Model Intercomparison Project/Atmospheric Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP5/AMIP),which used observational SST and sea ice to drive AGCMs during the period 1979-2008,were evaluated by comparing with observations and AMIP Ⅱ simulations.The results indicated that the multi-model ensemble (MME) of CMIP5/AMIP captures the main characteristics of precipitation and monsoon circulation,and shows the best skill in EASM simulation,better than the AMIP Ⅱ MME.As for the Meiyu/Changma/Baiyu rainbelt,the intensity of rainfall is underestimated in all the models.The biases are caused by a weak western Pacific subtropical high (WPSH) and accompanying eastward southwesterly winds in group Ⅰ models,and by a too strong and west-extended WPSH as well as westerly winds in group Ⅱ models.Considerable systematic errors exist in the simulated seasonal migration of rainfall,and the notable northward jumps and rainfall persistence remain a challenge for all the models.However,the CMIP5/AMIP MME is skillful in simulating the western North Pacific monsoon index (WNPMI). 相似文献

利用美国国家环境预测中心与国家大气研究中心(NCEP/NCAR)逐日再分析资料,针对北大西洋多年代际振荡(AMO)两个不同位相,对逐候200 hPa经向风异常进行EOF分析,发现在AMO正、负位相期间,欧亚副热带波列的季节内活动存在明显差异。利用超前—滞后回归,对比了不同AMO位相下副热带波列及其相联系的印度夏季降水的季节内活动演变特征,分析有关的大气环流,探究波列影响降水的机制。结果表明:在AMO负位相期间,由格陵兰岛以南北大西洋经大不列颠岛、地中海、黑海—里海向南亚北部传播的副热带波列的季节内演变,在印度中部引起下沉,导致中部及西北部季节内降水减少,波列负位相相反;在AMO正位相期间,副热带波列西起冰岛以南北大西洋经丹麦南部、俄罗斯西部、中亚向南亚东北部传播,对应该波列的季节内演变,辐合上升区在印度中部和东西两侧,使得该区域季节内降水增加,波列负位相相反。于是,AMO通过调制夏季欧亚副热带波列的季节内活动,可以对印度夏季降水的季节内变化空间型及演变发挥显著影响。 相似文献
