Laboratory simulation of water-resources conservation by means of the layout of a series of ponds along a streambank 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The purpose of this research is to describe a water-storage method that is more reliable than reservoirs, and to study the
efficacy of interception and storage of surface runoff in ponds. In this method, a series of ponds is laid out along a streambank
so that interception of surface runoff can be increased and more water can be stored in the wet season for use in the dry
season. The simulated results show that the structure of a pond, vegetation and the extent of land development, topographic
slope, and the degree to which a pond penetrates an aquifer affect the efficacy of interception and storage of surface runoff
in ponds.

Fumigation under sea-breeze conditions is a major feature of the air pollution meteorology in the coastal industrial region of Kwinana, south of Perth in Western Australia. An intensive field experiment on fumigation was carried out in the region in early 1995 with the objective of using the measured data to develop and test a shoreline fumigation model. Fumigation of plumes from the Kwinana Power Station was studied using an instrumented research aircraft, radiosonde balloons, meteorological stations, a lidar, a mobile surface sampler, and sonic anemometers. The study has yielded a detailed and high quality data set as a result of both the range of observations undertaken and of the regularity of the sea-breeze conditions under scrutiny. The details of the experiment are summarised in this paper and some typical results are presented. 相似文献

A turbulence data set collected by the research aircraft Hercules and Falcon in the planetary boundary layer (PBL) over the North Sea during Rayleigh-Bénard convection (RBC) is analysed. Altogether nearly three hundred cell passages at different levels and in two different flight directions were sampled.The convective boundary-layer height (H) was about 1 km, and the RBC cells had a diameter D of roughly 2–3 km, resulting in an aspect ratio A = D/H 2–3. This value is also found in the case of RBC in laboratory-scale flows, whereas most of the recent PBL experimental work reports convection PBL rolls with A 3 and mesoscale cellular convection (MCC) with A 10–40 over the oceans.The large number of RBC cell passages made it possible to composite their average structure. Due to the more complex three-dimensional structure and the importance of thermals to the RBC dynamics, spectral, temporal and spatial decompositions and model calculations were necessary to illuminate structure, dynamics, energetics and organisation. The final impression is that the structure of RBC in the PBL is given by a honeycomb-like arrangement of short-lived mixed-layer thermals with more passive downward motions in between. The regularity of the Cu-cloud cover results partly from the more stationary flow in the cloud-free cell centres. On the other hand it is shown that active as well as inactive clouds contribute to the cloud cover. Thus, the PBL flow and the cloud cover are decoupled, at least temporarily and locally.Due to sparse observational and measured information about RBC occurrence and structure in the PBL, additional material was gathered, resulting in the impression that RBC is one additional realised mode of organised convection in the PBL, as has already been clarified for PBL rolls and MCC by recent investigations. 相似文献

The surface layer of an atmospheric boundary layer (ABL) is most accessible to field measurements and hence its ensemble-mean structure has been well established. The Kansas field measurements were the first detailed study of this layer, providing numerous benchmark statistical profiles for a wide range of stability states. Large-eddy simulation (LES), in contrast, is most suitable for studying the mixed layer of the ABL where the energy-containing range of the vertical velocity field is well resolved. In the surface layer, typical large-eddy simulations barely resolve the energy-containing vertical-velocity fields and hence do not provide sufficient data for a detailed analysis.We carried out a nested-mesh simulation of a moderately convective ABL (-zi/L = 8) in which the lower 6% of the boundary layer had an effective grid resolution of 5123. We analyze the LES fields above the 6th vertical grid level (z = 23 m) where the vertical velocity field has a well formed inertial subrange, for a detailed comparison with the Kansas results. Various terms in the budgets of turbulent kinetic energy, temperature variance, Reynolds stress, temperature flux, and some higher order moments are compared. The agreement is generally quite good; however, we do observe certain discrepancies, particularly in the terms involving pressure fluctuations. 相似文献

The Advanced TIROS-N Operational Vertical Sounder(ATOVS) measurements are used to generate the atmospheric parameters,such as temperature and moisture profiles,under both clear and cloudy situations.This paper describes briefly the nonlinear iterative physical retrieval method.By using this retrieval scheme,an experiment has been carried out to retrieve the moisture profiles from ATOVS measurements on the NOAA-16 satellite for July of 2002.ATOVS profile retrieval results are evaluated by root mean square(RMS) differences with respect to RAdiosonde OBservation(RAOB) profiles.The accuracy of the retrieval is about 15%-23% for the relative humidity profile in this study. 相似文献

A combined study of the OH gas phase reaction and uptake on aqueous surfacesof two carbonates, dimethyl and diethyl carbonate has been carried out todetermine the atmospheric lifetimes of these compounds. Rate coefficients havebeen measured for gas phase reactions of OH radicals with dimethyl and diethylcarbonate. The experiments were carried out using pulsed laser photolysis– laser induced fluorescence over the temperature range 263–372K and the kinetic data were used to derive the following Arrhenius expressions(in units of cm3 molecule–1 s–1):for dimethyl carbonate, k1 = (0.83±0.27)×10–12 exp [–(247± 98)/T] and fordiethyl carbonate, k2 = (0.46±0.15)×10–12 exp [(503± 203)/T]. At 298 K, therate coefficients obtained (in units of 10–12 cm3molecule–1 s–1) are: k1 =(0.35± 0.04) and k2 = (2.31± 0.29). The results arediscussed in terms of structure-activity relationships.The uptake coefficients of both carbonates on aqueous surfaces were measuredas a function of temperature and composition of the liquid phase, using thedroplet train technique coupled to a mass spectrometric detection. Dimethyland diethyl carbonate show very similar results. For both carbonates, themeasured uptake kinetics were found to be independent of the aqueous phasecomposition (pure water, NaOH solutions) but dependent on gas-liquid contacttime which characterises a surface saturation effect. The uptake coefficientvalues show a slight negative temperature dependence for both carbonates.These values vary from 1.4×10–2 to0.6×10–2 in the temperature range of 265–279 Kfor dimethyl carbonate, from 2.4×10–2 to0.9×10–2 in the temperature range of 270–279 Kfor diethyl carbonate. From the kinetic data, the following Henry's lawconstants were derived between 279 and 265 K: dimethyl carbonate,H1 = 20–106 M atm–1; and diethyl carbonate,H2 = 30–98 M atm–1. The reported data showthat the OH reaction is the major atmospheric loss process of these twocarbonates with lifetimes of 33 and 5 days, respectively, while the wetdeposition is a negligible process. 相似文献

Recent field tests illustrate the accuracy and consistency of calculating near-surface shear (S)-wave velocities using multichannel analysis of surface waves (MASW). S-wave velocity profiles (S-wave velocity vs. depth) derived from MASW compared favorably to direct borehole measurements at sites in Kansas, British Columbia, and Wyoming. Effects of changing the total number of recording channels, sampling interval, source offset, and receiver spacing on the inverted S-wave velocity were studied at a test site in Lawrence, Kansas. On the average, the difference between MASW calculated Vs and borehole measured Vs in eight wells along the Fraser River in Vancouver, Canada was less than 15%. One of the eight wells was a blind test well with the calculated overall difference between MASW and borehole measurements less than 9%. No systematic differences were observed in derived Vs values from any of the eight test sites. Surface wave analysis performed on surface data from Wyoming provided S-wave velocities in near-surface materials. Measurements of warm fog-droplet concentrations carried out in a site in Mexico were analyzed with the purpose of identifying inhomogeneous sections of clouds. The site, located in the Sierra Madre Oriental of eastern Mexico, is characterized by frequent fog events throughout the year, sometimes accompanied with drizzle. Fog droplet concentrations and size spectra were obtained with a Forward Scattering Spectrometer Probe mounted on a ground-based, instrumented van for in-motion operation. The sampling technique, along with the data retrieval scheme used, allows one to investigate fine-scale microphysical structure of fog and to identify droplet concentration zones in cloud segments over spatial resolutions from hundreds of meters to tens of centimeters. The results show that a broadening of the droplet spectra towards larger sizes occurs in zones of decreased droplet concentration. This provides new information regarding fog microstructure at scales where important droplet growth occurs by condensation and coagulation. It is concluded that detailed knowledge of droplet spectra variations along fog transects provide further information for the characterization of cloud inhomogeneities. 相似文献
