Testate amoebae are increasingly used for environmental monitoring as well as paleoenvironmental reconstructions. Paleoecological interpretations of testate amoebae assemblages depend on the understanding of the ecological processes operating today. We then ask the question of the link between testate structure and its environment. This study analyses both the grain size and mineralogical assemblage of tests of common species belonging to the genus Centropyxis and Difflugia. It is concluded that grain size is a limiting factor for test construction, whereas mineral composition is not. Hence, when analyzing agglutinated testate amoebae for paleoenvironmental reconstructions, it should be taken into account the mean grain size of the sediment. A non-appropriate grain-size probably inhibits the development of a testate amoebae specific assemblage. 相似文献

具有高精度年代序列的湖泊沉积物是研究古气候的理想载体, 而碳库效应是制约精准年代序列建立的主要障碍之一。选取云南地区13个湖泊的年代数据, 通过现代校正法、线性回归法和地层关联法等碳库校正方法, 探讨了云南地区可能存在的湖泊碳库效应及其影响因素。结果表明, 泸沽湖、程海、洱海、大理西湖、云龙天池、腾冲青海、星云湖、杞麓湖、阳宗海和滇池10个湖泊均存在较大的碳库效应, 勐梭龙潭、异龙湖和抚仙湖的碳库效应则极小或不存在; 云南地区湖泊的平均碳库年龄为1010年, 碳库效应介于我国青藏高原、西北地区和北方地区、南方地区之间, 这与云南地区碳酸盐岩基岩分布广泛、植被密集且湖泊生产力较高有关。从空间上看, 云南地区的湖泊碳库效应有明显的差异, 滇中的阳宗海碳库年龄高达2642年, 滇西各湖的碳库年龄均低于2000年, 滇南的勐梭龙潭碳库年龄仅有105年。在碳酸盐岩广布的云南地区, 基岩性质可能是碳库效应形成的主导因素; 此外, 湖泊汇水面积和补给水源等也影响了抚仙湖和腾冲青海等湖泊的碳库效应。从时间上看, 湖泊水文状况及流域植被覆盖度的变化可能导致了星云湖、腾冲青海、程海、泸沽湖和云龙天池等湖泊碳库效应的时间变化, 比如泸沽湖深部岩芯的碳库年龄与现代碳库年龄相差较大, 云龙天池的碳库年龄随着深度的增加而增大。研究表明, 云南地区碳库效应时空变化的复杂性对建立精确定年有较大影响, 因此厘清湖泊碳库效应大小及时空变化特征对建立可靠的湖泊沉积物年代序列十分重要。

A new packrat midden chronology from Playas Valley, southwestern New Mexico, is the first installment of an ongoing effort to reconstruct paleovegetation and paleoclimate in the U.S.A.–Mexico Borderlands. Playas Valley and neighboring basins supported pluvial lakes during full and/or late glacial times. Plant macrofossil and pollen assemblages from nine middens in the Playas Valley allow comparisons of two time intervals: 16,000–10,000 and 4000–0 14C yr B.P. Vegetation along pluvial lake margins consisted of open pinyon–juniper communities dominated by Pinus edulis, Juniperus scopulorum, Juniperus cf. coahuilensis, and a rich understory of C4 annuals and grasses. This summer-flowering understory is also characteristic of modern desert grassland in the Borderlands and indicates at least moderate summer precipitation. P. edulis and J. scopulorum disappeared or were rare in the midden record by 10,670 14C yr B.P. The late Holocene is marked by the arrival of Chihuahuan desert scrub elements and few departures as the vegetation gradually became modern in character. Larrea tridentata appears as late as 2190 14C yr B.P. based on macrofossils, but may have been present as early as 4095 14C yr B.P. based on pollen. Fouquieria splendens, one of the dominant desert species present at the site today, makes its first appearance only in the last millennium. The midden pollen assemblages are difficult to interpret; they lack modern analogs in surface pollen assemblages from stock tanks at different elevations in the Borderlands. 相似文献

为探讨复原海岸平原沉积环境和精确划分海陆相地层的有效方法,对渤海湾西岸海河以南平原深达30 m的DC01孔岩心以约20 cm间距取样,测试黏土混浊水电导率(EC)、黄铁矿质量分数(w(FeS2))和pH值,并开展相关分析研究。结果显示,EC与w(FeS2)正相关(相关系数r为0.47),而EC与pH以及w(FeS2)与pH均负相关(r分别为-0.43和-0.52)。根据EC值的大小将DC01孔自下至上分成5个带(Ⅰ—Ⅴ),进一步分别对5个带的EC、w(FeS2)及pH做相关分析,结果显示,Ⅱ带相关性最为突出:EC与w(FeS2)的相关系数为0.83,极强正相关;EC与pH的相关系数为-0.77,强负相关;w(FeS2)与pH的相关系数为-0.45,呈中等程度负相关。根据Ⅱ带的EC和w(FeS2)极强正相关、且EC和w(FeS2)均明显偏高以及多发育黑色泥炭和腐殖质黏土等特征,推断Ⅱ带为受海水影响的盐沼环境;结合AMS14C测年结果,推测8 260~7 470 cal.B.P.期间,海水曾经影响到DC01孔的位置。另外,Ⅳ带的EC值也偏高,但w(FeS2)却较低,其EC与w(FeS2)的相关系数为-0.03,不呈正相关关系,其原因是因为接近地表的上部沉积物因淋溶作用,在Ⅳ带形成淀积层导致EC异常偏高;最上层的Ⅴ带为淋溶层,这样就导致钻孔上部(深6.7 m以上)Ⅳ带和Ⅴ带EC与w(FeS2)的相关性出现异常。因此在讨论沉积物上部沉积环境时,将EC与w(FeS2)综合分析可以更精确地划分钻孔岩心的沉积环境。 相似文献

Rising in the Neogene hills of the Mallakaster, the rivers Seman and Vjosa have built up two large joint deltas on the Albanian Adriatic shore. This shoreline is characterized by a low sandy coast with bars and spits. Changes in the river courses and migration of the mouths of the deltas were rapid and numerous from the Holocene period until the beginning of drainage works in the 1950s. The drainage basins of the two rivers are developed in soft clastic rocks (flysch and molasse) in the proportion of 71·4 per cent for the Seman and 44·8 per cent for the Vjosa. Both rivers carry abundant sediment loads, amounting to 6·7 × 106 tonnes per year for the Vjosa and 13·2 × 106 tonnes per year for the Seman. This is the reason why the alluvial deposits of the Seman have built up two‐thirds of the alluvial plain. The use of a SPOT image dated 25 May 1995 (HRV 3 081‐268) enabled us to view the effects of coastal and fluvial dynamics, the role of neotectonics as well as the predominance of the plume of suspended sediment of the Seman river. Using this image, a geomorphological map was drawn, which identifies the palaeochannels of the Seman and the Vjosa. In order to date those palaeochannels we have made an archaeological inventory from oral and written published information. The location of the sites we studied was checked systematically in the field. The mediaeval and Ottoman archives kept in Tirana also provided substantial information, as well as the reconstitution of the evolution of the shoreline between 1870 and 1990, carried out using an inventory of topographic maps. This work allowed us to reconstitute the progression of the deltas of the Seman and the Vjosa since antiquity. We may then infer that from antiquity up to the Middle Ages, the deltas of the Seman and the Vjosa both progressed very moderately and in a comparable way. However, at the end of the 15th century the Seman underwent a major change in its course, through a southward migration of the river. The natural processes of alluviation and changes in the river courses seem to have been accelerated as agricultural exploitation of the Neogene hills that form most of the drainage basin of the Seman increased. This exploitation is linked with the massive exportation of cereal from the port of Skela e Pirgut, which started in the 14th century. It appears that the 20th century has been the period of the largest progression of the deltas during historical times. The speed of progression increased as early as the beginning of the century, as a result of the rapid growth of the rural population densities. Soil erosion from arable fields increased catchment sediment yields to promote rapid changes in the river courses. This resulted in abandonment of deltaic mouths, a phenomenon leading to a straightening of the coast. Thus to the south of the present mouth of the Seman the coast receded by 7 to 30 m per year between 1968 and 1990 as a result of the abandonment of a mouth. The effects of a disturbance by sandbar opening on the zooplankton community were evaluated through a long-term study in an eutrophic and oligohaline system, Imboassica Lagoon, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Zooplankton samples and limnological data were collected monthly from March 2000 to February 2003. Before the sandbar was opened in February 2001, the lagoon showed eutrophic conditions, with high mean nutrient concentrations and low salinity (total nitrogen – TN = 190.28 μM, chlorophyll a content – Chl. a = 104.60 μg/L and salinity = 0.87′). During this period, the zooplankton species present, such as the rotifers Brachionus calyciflorus and Brachionus havanaensis, were typical of freshwater to oligohaline and eutrophic environments. After the sandbar opening, the lagoon changed to a lower trophic status and increased salinity (TN = 55.11 μM, Chl. a = 27.56 μg/L and salinity = 19.64′). As a result, the zooplankton community came to consist largely of the rotifer Brachionus plicatilis, marine copepods and meroplanktonic larvae, mainly Gastropoda. Salinity was the main force structuring the zooplankton community after the sandbar opening. Two years after this episode, the prior zooplankton community had not reestablished itself, indicating a low resilience to this disturbance. The conditions developed prior to a sandbar opening can be crucial to the community responses in the face of this disturbance and for the capacity of the original zooplankton community to re-establish itself. 相似文献

Glacier recessions caused by climate change may uncover pro‐glacial lakes that form important sedimentation basins regulating the downstream sediment delivery. The impact of modern pro‐glacial lakes on fluvial sediment transport from three different Norwegian glaciers: Nigardsbreen, Engabreen and Tunsbergdalsbreen, and their long‐term development has been studied. All of these lakes developed in modern times in overdeepened bedrock basins. The recession of Nigardsbreen uncovered a 1.8 km long and on average 15 m deep pro‐glacial lake basin during 1937 to 1968. Since then the glacier front has been situated entirely on land, and the sediment input and output of the lake has been measured. The suspended sediment transport into and out of the lake averaged 11 730 t yr?1 and 2340 t yr?1 respectively. Thus, 20% remained in suspension at the outlet. The measured mean annual bedload supplied to the lake was 11 800 t yr?1, giving a total transport of 23 530 t yr?1 which corresponds to a specific sediment yield of 561 t km?2 yr?1. A 1.9 km long and up to 90 m deep pro‐glacial lake basin downstream from Engabreen glacier was uncovered during 1890 to 1944. The average suspended sediment load delivered from the glacier during the years 1970–1981 amounted to 12 375 t yr?1and the transport out of the lake was 2021 t yr?1, giving an average of 16% remaining in suspension. The mean annual bedload was 8000 t yr?1, thus the total transport was 20 375 t yr?1, giving a specific sediment yield of 566 t km?2 yr?1. For Tunsbergdalsbreen glacier, measurements in the early 1970s indicated that the suspended sediment transport was on average 44 000 t yr?1. From 1987 to 1993 the recession of the glacier uncovered a small pro‐glacial lake, 0.3 km long and around 9 m deep. Downstream from this, the suspended sediment load measured in 2009 was 28 000 t yr?1, indicating that as much as 64% remained in suspension. Flow velocity, grain size of sediment, and morphology of the lake are important factors controlling the sedimentation rate in the pro‐glacial lakes. A survey of the sub‐glacial morphology of Tunsbergdalsbreen revealed that there are several overdeepened basins beneath the glacier. The largest is 4 km long and 100 m deep. When the glacier melts back they will become lakes and act as sedimentation basins. Despite an expected increase in sediment yield from the glacier, little sediment will pass these lakes and downstream sediment delivery will be reduced markedly.
