Small amplitude water waves propagating in a medium with a steady non-uniform current are investigated. The non-uniform current is obtained by up- or downwelling through the horizontal bed. A new locally valid velocity potential correct to the second order is derived describing the combined wave–current motion. From this solution expressions for the local evolution of the wave amplitude and the wave number are extracted. These expressions are compared with the results found using the principle of wave action conservation and the linear dispersion relation, and good agreement is found at small distances compared to the wavelength. Unlike earlier works there is no restriction to deep water. The results valid for deep water are found as a special case of the general solution and agree with the solution found by Longuet-Higgins, M.S. and Stewart, R.W. (1961) The changes in amplitude of short gravity waves on steady non-uniform currents. Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 10(4), 529–549. In the resonance model, high‐frequency quasi‐periodic oscillations (QPOs) are supposed to be a consequence of nonlinear resonance between modes of oscillations occurring within the innermost parts of an accretion disk. Several models with a prescribed mode–mode interaction were proposed in order to explain the characteristic properties of the resonance in QPO sources. In this paper, we examine nonlinear oscillations of a system having a quadratic nonlinearity and we show that this case is particularly relevant for QPOs. We present a very convenient way how to study autoparametric resonances of a fully general system using the method of multiple scales. A new method is proposed to convert pressure measured by an instrument to water depth using an additional available bottom-moored pressure sensor. A perturbation analysis is used in this analysis, which leads to a simple formula for calculating water depth (defined as one from the mean sea surface to the instrument) from the pressure data. In field experiments, this method is easier to apply than existing methods. Based on the theoretical derivation, the error associated with the method comes from two sources when the instrument depth is known at the beginning of the measurement: temporal variation of deep water density at depths deeper than the instrument and variation in the gravitational acceleration with instrument displacement. These two sources contribute up to 4% of the error relative to the vertical displacement of the instrument, assuming the pressure sensor is accurate. With the vertical displacement of the instrument being on the order of 10?m, the absolute error is on the order of 0.4?m, which is expected and acceptable in oceanic measurements. The method is applied to data from a field experiment that took place along the Myanmar coast in December 2012.  相似文献

In order to investigate whether adaptive observations can improve tropical cyclone (TC) intensity forecasts,observing system simulation experiments (OSSEs) were conducted for 20 TC cases originating in the western North Pacific during the 2010 season according to the conditional nonlinear optimal perturbation (CNOP) sensitivity,using the fifth version of the PSU/NCAR mesoscale model (MM5) and its 3DVAR assimilation system.A new intensity index was defined as the sum of the number of grid points within an allocated square centered at the corresponding forecast TC central position,that satisfy constraints associated with the Sea Level Pressure (SLP),near-surface horizontal wind speed,and accumulated convective precipitation.The higher the index value is,the more intense the TC is.The impacts of the CNOP sensitivity on the intensity forecast were then estimated.The OSSE results showed that for 15 of the 20 cases there were improvements,with reductions of forecast errors in the range of 0.12%-8.59%,which were much less than in track forecasts.The indication,therefore,is that the CNOP sensitivity has a generally positive effect on TC intensity forecasts,but only to a certain degree.We conclude that factors such as the use of a coupled model,or better initialization of the TC vortex,are more important for an accurate TC intensity forecast.  相似文献

文章利用中尺度模式Weather Research and Forecasting Model(WRF)3.2.1版本及National Centers for Environmental Prediction(NCEP)分析资料,研究了陆面变量(土壤湿度、土壤温度)和陆面参数(植被覆盖率)初始场随机扰动对长江中下游暴雨预报的影响并进行了集合预报试验。试验结果表明,短期暴雨过程对陆面变量(参数)扰动是敏感的;陆面变量(参数)初始场扰动影响降水的时间尺度小于10 h甚至可以小于6 h。从影响机理上来看,陆面变量(参数)扰动首先改变地表的潜热通量和感热通量,而地表通量的改变会通过陆气相互作用对局地大气的温、压、湿、风产生较大影响,从而对暴雨的强度和落区产生较大影响。集合预报结果表明,利用陆面变量(参数)扰动制作集合预报,预报的集合平均结果要好于控制预报的结果,且比集合成员稳定可靠,降水概率预报可以提供一些有用的信息,对预报强降水有一定的指示意义。在初值集合预报中,以这些参数或变量的扰动来引进集合成员是十分有意义的。  相似文献

Based on the Zebiak-Cane model, the timedependent nonlinear forcing singular vector (NFSV)-type tendency errors with components of 4 and 12 (denoted by NFSV-4 and NFSV-12) are calculated for predetermined El Nifio events and compared with the constant NFSV (denoted by NFSV-1) from their patterns and resultant prediction errors. Specifically, NFSV-1 has a zonal dipolar sea surface temperature anomaly (SSTA) pattern with negative anomalies in the equatorial eastern Pacific and positive anomalies in the equatorial central-western Pa- cific. Although the first few components in NFSV-4 and NFSV-12 present patterns similar to NFSV-1, they tend to extend their dipoles farther westward; meanwhile, the positive anomalies gradually cover much smaller regions with the lag times. In addition, the authors calculate the predic- tion errors caused by the three kinds of NFSVs, and the results indicate that the prediction error induced by NFSV-12 is the largest, followed by the NFSV-4. However, when compared with the prediction errors caused by random tendency errors, the NFSVs generate significantly larger prediction errors. It is therefore shown that the spatial structure of tendency errors is important for producing large prediction errors. Furthermore, in exploring the tendency errors that cause the largest prediction error for E1 Nifio events, the timedependent NFSV should be evaluated.  相似文献

为了解近50年来东南沿海地区降水与海温变化的关系,对该地区降水与全球海表温度进行了奇异值分解(SVD)。结果表明:印度洋、南海及赤道东太平洋地区是对东南沿海地区降水有影响的关键区域。东南沿海地区秋冬季的降水总体上来说对前期海温变化的响应不敏感,而东南沿海地区夏季降水受前期海温的影响较为明显,尤其是上年夏季北印度洋、南海地区海温的变化对当年降水有明显影响。因此,在预测东南沿海地区夏季降水时应该重点考虑上年夏季北印度洋及南海地区海温的变化情况。  相似文献

Airborne time domain electromagnetic (TDEM) surveys are increasingly carried out in anthropized areas as part of environmental studies. In such areas, noise arises mainly from either natural sources, such as spherics, or cultural sources, such as couplings with man-made installations. This results in various distortions on the measured decays, which make the EM noise spectrum complex and may lead to erroneous inversion and subsequent misinterpretations. Thresholding and stacking standard techniques, commonly used to filter TDEM data, are less efficient in such environment, requiring a time-consuming and subjective manual editing. The aim of this study was therefore to propose an alternative fast and efficient user-assisted filtering approach. This was achieved using the singular value decomposition (SVD). The SVD method uses the principal component analysis to extract into components the dominant shapes from a series of raw input curves. EM decays can then be reconstructed with particular components only. To do so, we had to adapt and implement the SVD, firstly, to separate clearly and so identify easily the components containing the geological signal, and then to denoise properly TDEM data.The reconstructed decays were used to detect noisy gates on their corresponding measured decays. This denoising step allowed rejecting efficiently mainly spikes and oscillations. Then, we focused on couplings with man-made installations, which may result in artifacts on the inverted models. An analysis of the map of weights of the selected “noisy components” highlighted high correlations with man-made installations localized by the flight video. We had therefore a tool to cull most likely decays biased by capacitive coupling noises. Finally, rejection of decays affected by galvanic coupling noises was also possible locating them through the analysis of specific SVD components. This SVD procedure was applied on airborne TDEM data surveyed by SkyTEM Aps. over an anthropized area, on behalf of the French geological survey (BRGM), near Courtenay in Région Centre, France. The established denoising procedure provides accurate denoising tools and makes, at least, the manual cleaning less time consuming and less subjective.  相似文献

转换波技术是解决气云区成像问题的有效手段,而二极化现象则是制约转换波构造成像精度提高的一个重要因素。解决该问题的一个有效办法是二极化校正:将转换波速度分解为基本速度和速度扰动,分两步对转换波地震数据进行叠加速度分析和叠前时间偏移速度分析。柴达木盆地三湖地区天然气资源丰富,气云广泛发育,通过对三湖地区二维三分量地震数据的研究分析,发现该地区转换波二极化现象明显,对转换波的准确成像有较大影响。通过对转换波二极化校正方法的应用,不论是在叠加成像,还是叠前偏移成像都取得了较好的效果,提高了气云区转换波构造成像的精度。二极化校正对解决气云区转换波剩余静校正有重要促进作用,二极化校正与转换波剩余静校正的结合是陆上气云区转换波高精度成像流程中必不可少的环节。  相似文献
