We investigate the characteristics of parametric instability when very large variations of restoring between the wave trough and the wave crest are taking place, creating a restoring that is alternating between negative (or nearly negative) and strongly positive values. The possible ways to consider the nonlinearities in damping and in restoring are discussed in detail. The boundary separating parametric instability from pure-loss is identified. In depth studies are carried out to ascertain the practical relevance of the parametric mechanism. Instability regions are identified in terms of transient motions, rather than in terms of the customary asymptotic stability chart associated with Mathieu's equation. A basis for comparing parametric roll behavior for different representations of restoring is established. Asymmetric variation laws and bi-chromatic waves are considered. 相似文献

While the media vigorously propagates historic Northern Sea Route (NSR) transits and researchers demonstrate the viability of the NSR, current usage by the shipping industry has been neglected thus far. This study aims to analyse the current ship traffic at NSR using transit data and port call data. The results show that navigation season lasts for five months, and Arc4 and Arc5 vessels are used extensively. Some Asian countries are active participants in the transit activities. NSR seems to be more appealing to liquid, bulk and general cargo transportation. Currently, most activities are still domestic and destinational in nature. The paper provides real statistics that can add value to the viability analysis. It identifies key players of the transits, exhibits trade pattern at NSR, and presents facts that interest shipping companies. 相似文献

The use of wavelet transforms is explored to investigate the nonlinear dynamical characteristics of ship roll and coupled heave-roll motion. The harmonic character, double period character and chaotic character are observed via a time–frequency window of the wavelet transform. Typical wave parameters in different stability regions are considered. Features such as restoring rolling, divergence rolling, steady state and chaotic responses of ship roll are obtained as well. The investigation in this paper not only highlights the feasibility of using wavelet transforms in the analysis of nonlinear dynamic characteristics of ship rolling in waves, but also shows how it could enhance the analysis abilities. 相似文献

This paper presents a numerical fairing procedure to be used at the preliminary design stage to create high-quality ship hull form geometry. The procedure is based on a variational optimization approach in which a fairness measure related to the surface curvature is the objective function to be minimized subject to a set of geometric constraints to ensure that the final form has the required geometric characteristics. The optimization variables are selected as the control points of a B-spline surface representing the initial hull form. A nonlinear direct search technique is employed to solve the problem. The methodology is applied for typical ship forms to indicate that, provided that the designer can specify appropriate design objectives and geometric constraints, the methodology can produce alternative hull forms with significantly improved fairing characteristics. The choice of the fairness objective function is shown to have a crucial effect on the quality of the hull surface. Highly nonlinear exact fairness functionals yield surfaces of high quality at the expense of high-computerized effort. 相似文献

A case study for the energy saving in the powering characteristics of a river going general cargo ship has been carried out. Two different hull forms were generated from the original hull form of the vessel to optimise the stern flow of the vessel. A possible energy saving concept, such as partial wake equalizing duct was investigated in this manner. Resistance, self-propulsion and flow visualization measurements were performed with the hull models to explore the effect of partial wake equalizing ducts on the powering characteristics of the hull form. Analysis of the results indicates that the partial wake equalizing duct concept with an appropriate stern design affect not only the flow characteristics at aft-end, but also the propulsion characteristics. In order to identify effect of each component (partial wake equalizing duct and stern form) a further investigation is needed. 相似文献

In this paper a discussion of three failure criteria during a tanker collision takes place. The ‘Fracture Criterion’ developed recently [Glykas, A., Samouelides, E., Das, P.K. (1996) Energy absorption capacity of plates under lateral loading. Proceedings of the 6th International Conference of Offshore and Polar Engineers, Los Angeles '96, Vol. IV, pp. 502–509.], deals with the amount of energy required so that arbitrary crack propagation originates from microscopic material flaws of the steel structure, in areas of high strain concentration during large deflections. This fracture criterion is applied in critical areas of a tanker bow structure during head-on collision with a vertical rigid body and its validity is examined in comparison to other two state of the art failure criteria. The penetration of the tanker vessel as well as the time to rest from the initiation of the collision are determined in relation to the failure criteria. 相似文献

Ship berthing and mooring monitoring system by using pneumatic-type fenders has been proposed. This system consists of present berth monitoring system including a mooring line load monitoring system, and a fender load monitoring system. The fender loads such as fender deflection and reaction force are calculated by measuring inner air pressure of the pneumatic fenders, which have unique characteristics in performance. Furthermore both loads for the mooring lines and the fenders can be used to estimate moored ship motions simultaneously. The motions of a high speed craft are highly influenced by speed and dynamic forces that begin to be important for high Froude numbers. Classical ship motions theories and some seakeeping programs do not include the effect of these dynamic forces that mainly affect to the damping of vertical motions, and have to be corrected to model high speed crafts. In any other way, the use of these theories or programs would be unrealistic. In this paper, some theories that can be used to predict the seakeeping behaviour of high speed crafts, considering dynamic forces, are studied and validated against seakeeping tests of some fast monohulls models. Tests and results focus on vertical motions in head seas, which are the most severe for these fast crafts. Experimental results of vertical motions are compared with numerical calculations and conclusions about the range of application of the presented theories are obtained. 相似文献
