The characteristics of interannual fluctuations of the surface air temperature over North America are investigated by using the surface air temperature data of 130 stations during 1941 through 1980. It is found that the surface air temperature bears about ten-year time scale oscillation over the southeastern and northwestern North America and along the west coast of the United States, and it has the characteristics of quasibiennial oscillation over the eastern North America. The ten-year scale oscillation of the surface air temperature is related to that of the sea surface temperature (SST) of North Pacific through the PNA pattern atmospheric circulation anomaly over North Pacific through North America. It is shown that the North Pacific SST has a closer association with the surface air temperature over North America than the central and eastern equatorial Pacific SST. The relationship between the monsoon rainfall throughout all India, northwest India and peninsular India as well as the onset dates of the monsoon and two indices of southern oscillation (SOI), namely Isla de Pascua minus Darwin (I-D) and Tahiti minus Darwin (T-D) pressure anomaly have been studied for different periods. The study indicates that the monsoon rainfall shows a strong and significant direct relationship with SOI for the concurrent, succeeding autumn and succeeding winter seasons. The magnitude of the direct correlation coefficient for the SOI using (I-D) is enhanced over all India and peninsular India if the above seasons happen to be associated with an easterly phase of the QBO (Quasi-Biennial Oscillation) at 50 mb. The result indicates that the strength of the monsoon plays an important role in the following southern oscillation events in the Pacific Ocean. The premonsoon tendency of the SOI anomaly spring minus winter SOI shows a significant positive correlation with monsoon rainfall over all India, northwest India and peninsular India. The absolute value of the positive correlation coefficient becomes highly enhanced over all India, northwest India as well as peninsular India if the 6-month period from December to March is associated with the westerly phase of the QBO. Hence, the premonsoon SOI tendency parameter can be a useful predictor of Indian monsoon rainfall especially if it happens to be associated with the westerly QBO. Significant negative association is also found between the anomaly of monsoon onset dates and SOI of the previous spring season, the absolute value being higher for SOI (T-D) than for SOI (I-D). The negative correlation coefficient becomes enhanced if the previous springs are associated with a westerly phase of the QBO. It shows that the previous spring SOI has some predictive value for the onset date of Indian monsoon, a positive SOI followed by an early onset of monsoon, andvice versa, especially if it is associated with a westerly phase of the QBO. 相似文献

Identifying the Northern Hemisphere (NH) temperature reconstruction and instrumental data for
the past 1000 years shows that climate change in the last millennium includes long-term trends and various
oscillations. Two long-term trends and the quasi-70-year oscillation were detected in the global temperature
series for the last 140 years and the NH millennium series. One important feature was emphasized that
temperature decreases slowly but it increases rapidly based on the analysis of different series. Benefits can be
obtained of climate change from understanding various long-term trends and oscillations. Millennial temperature
proxies from the natural climate system and time series of nonlinear model system are used in understanding the
natural climate change and recognizing potential benefits by using the method of wavelet transform analysis. The
results from numerical modeling show that major oscillations contained in numerical solutions on the
interdecadal timescale are consistent with that of natural proxies. It seems that these oscillations in the climate
change are not directly linked with the solar radiation as an external forcing. This investigation may conclude
that the climate variability at the interdecadal timescale strongly depends on the internal nonlinear effects in the climate system. 相似文献

The stochastic behavior of the length of day (LOD) process is analyzed and is modeled within statistical accuracy on a time-scale ranging from weeks to millennia by a three-component model comprising a global Brownian motion process, decadal fluctuations, and a 50-day Madden–Julian oscillation. While the model is intended to be phenomenological, some possible physical models underlying the three components are speculated upon. The model is applied to estimate long-range extrapolation errors. For example, it predicts a standard error of 1 h in the clock-time correction ΔT for extrapolation by 1,500 years from 500 to 2000 BC. 相似文献

Time-relative positioning makes use of observations taken at two different epochs and stations with a single global positioning
system (GPS) receiver to determine the position of the unknown station with respect to the known station. The limitation of
this method is the degradation over time of the positioning accuracy due to the temporal variation of GPS errors (ionospheric
delay, satellite clock corrections, satellite ephemerides, and tropospheric delay). The impact of these errors is significantly
reduced by adding to the one-way move from the known to the unknown station, a back move to the known station. A loop misclosure
is computed from the coordinates obtained at the known station at the beginning and at the end of the loop, and is used to
correct the coordinates of the unknown station. The field tests, presented in this paper, show that using the loop misclosure
corrections, time-relative positioning accuracy can be improved by about 60% when using single frequency data, and by about
40% with dual frequency data. For a 4-min processing interval (an 8-min loop) and a 95% probability level, errors remain under
20 cm for the horizontal components and 36 cm for the vertical component with single frequency data; and under 11 cm for the
horizontal components and 29 cm for the vertical component with dual frequency data. 相似文献

We investigate the relative dispersion properties of the well-mixed class of Lagrangian stochastic models. Dimensional analysis
shows that, given a model in the class, its properties depend solely on a non-dimensional parameter, which measures the relative
weight of Lagrangian-to-Eulerian scales. This parameter is formulated in terms of Kolmogorov constants, and model properties
are then studied by modifying its value in a range that contains the experimental variability. Large variations are found
