Laboratory experiments have been conducted to measure rock expansion and contraction induced by wetting and drying on intertidal shore platforms in eastern Canada. Almost 800 rock cores and cubes were subjected to between 800 and 1000 tidal cycles. The rocks were put into tidal simulators and inundated in de-ionized water for 1, 6, or 11 h of each 12 h cycle, replicating conditions at the high, mid-, and low tidal levels, respectively. Micro-erosion meter (MEM) stations were also installed in slabs of argillite, sandstone, and basalt. The slabs were subjected to conditions at the high, mid-, and low tidal levels, and a traversing MEM was used to measure rock expansion and contraction as the slabs dried in air with variable temperature and humidity during low tide. The slabs were also exposed for long periods to air with variable humidity. Cores and cubes often gained in weight when they absorbed or adsorbed water and retained it for periods ranging from 1 month to 1 year or more, although this did not appear to be a prelude to rock breakdown. Tidal wetting and drying and exposure to humid air caused the argillite and basalt slabs to expand and contract by up to 0.14 and 0.04 mm, respectively. Wetting and drying did not induce expansion or contraction of the sandstone, but the sandstone did respond slightly to changes in air humidity. The greatest amount of expansion and contraction was at the high tidal level in the argillite and at the mid-tidal level in the basalt, which is consistent with previously measured rates of downwearing.  相似文献

Morphological features along the Algarve rocky coast, South Portugal, are identified and described, with an emphasis on shore platforms and notches. The contributions of processes, such as wave attack, chemical weathering and bioerosion, to sculpting the shore platforms are discussed. The preferential localization of shore platforms on sites exposed to waves, and the lack of significant chemical weathering, point to wave erosion as the first-order factor in platform formation, whilst bioerosion/bioprotection, lithology and geological structure determine platform morphological variations. In addition, platforms above the present intertidal zone appear to have a polygenetic evolution, being inherited from former sea-level highstands and currently undergoing chemical weathering. The occurrence of notch features is independent of the degree of exposure to waves, but they mostly occur where the substratum is sand. Hydrostatic pressure appears to be an important factor in the formation of marine caves in the more sheltered sites.  相似文献

The shore platforms on Shag Point, southern New Zealand, are quasi‐horizontal surfaces and are developed between supratidal and low water spring levels. A range of morphologies occur, with more exposed platforms having a distinct low‐tide cliff, in contrast to low‐tide surfaces where the seaward edge is buried beneath rubble and macro‐algal growth. The platforms range in width from 20 to 80 m and are eroded into Late Cretaceous/Early Tertiary fine marine sandstones and mudstones. Shore platforms have formed in two principal lithological units: a homogeneous unit that is characterized by few discontinuities, and a fractured unit with joints spaced about 0·5 m apart. Rock hardness is low in both units (L‐type Schmidt hammer rebound values of 31 ± 4), and there is little systematic variation in values between the two units in which platforms have developed. Case‐hardened concretions within the sandstone are significantly harder than surrounding rock and cause local relief of metre scale as the spherical diagenetic features are eroded from the bedrock. They do not, however, appear to affect broad‐scale platform geometry. Joints within the bedrock are a primary control on platform elevation. Platforms formed in jointed rock occur at the lower portion of the intertidal zone, in contrast to platforms formed in unjointed bedrock, in which horizontal surfaces occur at or above mean high water spring tide level. Abstract   We collected free-gas and in situ fluid samples up to a depth of 200.6 m from the Sagara oil field, central Japan (34°44'N, 138°15'E), during the Sagara Drilling Program (SDP) and measured the concentrations and stable carbon isotopic compositions of CH4 and C2H6 in the samples. A combination of the CH4/C2H6 ratios with the carbon isotope ratios of methane indicates that the hydrocarbon gases are predominantly of thermogenic origin at all depths. The isotope signature of hydrocarbon gases of δ13      < δ13     suggests that these gases in the Sagara oil field are not generated by polymerization, but by the decomposition of organic materials.  相似文献

本文利用武汉大学的瑞利激光雷达的瑞利散射回波数据(30~65 km)来研究武汉地区上空(305°N,1144°E)〖JP〗重力波的活动规律和统计特性.通过对2003年12月到2005年3月观测的200 h数据反演的密度进行处理分析,得到了重力波的一些个例特征,并提取垂直波长为2 km以上的重力波进行统计分析.结果表明,最可几的垂直波长是3~4 km和17~20 km,重力波振幅的月平均值在冬季有较大值,夏季值较小.与武汉2004年无线电探空仪的密度扰动提取到的重力波做比较,发现与瑞利激光雷达得到的重力波振幅的月平均值有很强的相关性,也是冬季值比较大,夏季值比较小.通过无线电探空仪的风场数据,本文还得到了急流的季节变化规律、最大风剪切年变化规律,发现急流和最大风剪切与激光雷达的重力波统计结果有很强的相关性.  相似文献

本文首次对中国大陆科学钻探工程100~2000m榴辉岩中的绿辉石和片麻岩中的长石进行了普通Pb同位素研究。钻孔上部岩段(0-800m)样品放射成因Pb同位素含量比较高且变化幅度较小(^206Pb/^204Pb=16.81-17.29,^207Pb/^204Pb=15.37-15.45,^208Pb/^204Pb=37.20-37.66),说明其原岩的U/Pb和Th/Pb或者初始Pb同位素比值比较高。钻孔中部岩段(800-1600m)发育有韧性剪切带,相应的Pb同位素比值开始降低且有起伏(^206Pb/^204Pb=16.26-16.72,^207Pb/^204Pb=15.27~15.38,^208Pb/^204Pb=36.73~37.40)、钻孔下部岩段(800~1600m)样品放射成因Ph同位素含量低但变化幅度较小(^206Pb/^204Pb=16.05~16.46,^207Pb/^204Pb:15.22~15.29,^208Pb/^204Pb=36.68~37.48),说明其原岩的U/Pb和Th/Pb或者初始Ph同位素比值比较低。实测数据同模拟数据对比表明,钻孔上、下两岩段样品普通Ph同位素不同一方面是由于继承了原岩初始Pb同位素不同,另一方面是由它们的μ值不同所致。结合氧同位素研究,本文认为800m以上和1600m以下分属上地壳和中地壳.前者是从俯冲大陆岩石圈解耦的上地壳,在大陆岩石圈俯冲过程中,上部岩片同俯冲的大陆岩石圈发生挤离,率先沿着这一个挤离面逆冲折返至浅部。下岩片是随后从俯冲岩石圈解耦的中地壳岩片,并折返至浅部下伏在先期折返的上部岩片之下。考虑到中部岩段(800~1600m)既发育有韧性剪切带又具有异常低^18O峰值(Xiao et al.,2006),挤离面是在地壳内部晚元古代的断裂带及冷水活动通道基础上发育起来的。  相似文献

对中国大陆科学钻探主孔100—2000m区间岩心样品磁化率与钻孔原位测井磁化率进行系统时比研究。结果表明,控制岩石磁化率的主要因素是岩性和退变质作用,其中蛇纹石化石榴石橄榄岩的磁化率最大,样品平均磁化率为86.277×10-3SI,正片麻岩,退变质榴辉岩,榴辉岩,副片麻岩次之,角闪岩的磁化率最小,样品平均磁化率为1.698×10-3SI。不同退变质程度榴辉岩的磁化率特征具有明显的差异:中-强程度退变质榴辉岩由于退变质过程所产生的磁铁矿和钛铁矿-钛磁铁矿,其磁化率最大;随着退变质作用的进一步加剧,这些磁铁矿和钛铁矿-钛磁铁矿被完全分解,导致完全退变质榴辉岩的磁化率最小;新鲜榴辉岩的磁化率介于两者之间。在该深度区间,约70%岩心样品磁化率与测井磁化率的比值小于4.0,其中以<2.0为主,相同岩性岩石(如榴辉岩,退变质榴辉岩和副片麻岩)磁化率的比值随深度变化较小。岩心样品磁化率和测井磁化率之间的欧氏距离位于3.0-6.4范围,且随深度变化不明显,如在100~600m和1500~2000m两个深度范围的欧氏距离分别为3.0-5.2和3.2~5.3,表现出相似的变化特征,显示了在此区间深度范围内,地层压力对磁化率的基本没有影响。  相似文献

Summary The erosion of four rock types and two cementitious materials by solid particle impact is investigated. The experimental set-up used to perform the erosion tests is briefly described. The materials are eroded predominantly by intergranular and intercrystalline fracture. For the cementitious materials, the interface between cement matrix and aggregate is of decisive importance. The power exponents for the particle velocity are estimated and found to vary between 2.59 and 3.65. A statistical fracture model is derived to discuss deviations in the particle velocity power exponent. It is further shown that the experimental results of this study confirm the erosion model of Finnie and Oh (1966); an exception is schist which shows features of plastic deformation and radial cracking during the Hertzian indentation test.  相似文献
