Conical steel shells are widely used as water containments for elevated tanks. However, the current codes for design of water structures do not specify any procedure for handling the seismic design of such structures. In this paper, a numerical model is developed for studying the stability of liquid-filled conical tanks subjected to seismic loading. The model involves a previously formulated consistent shell element with geometric and material non-linearities included. A boundary element formulation is derived to obtain the hydrodynamic pressure resulting from both the horizontal and the vertical components of seismic motion acting on a conical tank which is prevented from rocking. The boundary element formulation leads to a fluid added-mass matrix which is incorporated with the shell element formulation to perform non-linear dynamic stability analysis of such tanks subjected to both horizontal and vertical components of ground motion. Although, the formulation was developed for conical vessels, it is general and can be easily modified to study the stability of any liquid-filled shell of revolution subjected to seismic loading. The accuracy of fluid added-mass formulation was verified by performing the free vibration analysis of liquid-filled cylindrical tanks and comparing the results to those available in the literature. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The present analysis derives a stability criterion for long‐term equilibrium channel heads. The concept of finite perturbation analysis is presented, during which the surface is subjected to perturbations of a finite amplitude and resulting changes in flow path structure and slope are computed. Based on these quantities the analysis predicts whether the perturbed location is going to erode, be filled in or remain steady. The channel head is defined geometrically as the focus point of converging flow lines at the bottom of hollows. It is demonstrated that stability at the channel head grows out of the competition between the rate of flow path convergence and the degree of profile concavity. Analytical functions are derived to compute channel head‐contributing area and ‐slope, flow path convergence and profile concavity as a function of perturbation depth, distance from the crest and the initial slope. In a numerical model these quantities point to the long‐term equilibrium channel head position, which is shown to depend also on the width to length ratio of hollows. It is also demonstrated that the equilibrium channel head position is sensitive to the base‐level lowering/non‐dimensional slope length ratio and to the slope of the initial topography. Morphometrical measurements both in the field and on simulated topographies were used to test the theoretical predictions.  相似文献

In this paper we have presented a very general class of solutions for rotating fluid disks around massive objects (neglecting the self gravitation of the disk) with density as a function of the radial coordinate only and pressure being nonzero. Having considered a number of cases with different density and velocity distributions, we have analysed the stability of such disks under both radial and axisymmetric perturbations. For a perfect gas disk with γ= 5/3 the disk is stable with frequency (MG/r3)1/2 for purely radial pulsation with expanding and contracting boundary. In the case of axisymmetric perturbation the critical γc for neutral stability is found to be much less than 4/3 indicating that such disks are mostly stable under such perturbations. Landslides pose a serious physical and environmental threat to vulnerable communities living in areas of unplanned housing on steep slopes in the Caribbean. Some of these communities have, in the past, had to be relocated, at costs of millions of dollars, because of major slides triggered by tropical storm rainfall. Even so, evidence shows that: (1) risk reduction is a marginal activity; (2) there has been minimal uptake of hazard maps and vulnerability assessments and (3) there is little on-the-ground delivery of construction for risk reduction. This article directly addresses these issues by developing a low-cost approach to the identification of the potential pore pressure changes that trigger such slides we seek to address these three commentaries directly. A complex 45–60° slope site in St Lucia, West Indies was selected as a pilot for a modelling approach that uses numerical models (FLAC and CHASM) to verify the need for surface water management to effectively reduce landslide risk. Following the model confirmation, a series of drains were designed and constructed at the site. Post-construction evidence indicates the methodology to be sound, in that the site was stable in subsequent 1-in-1 to 1-in-4 year rainfall events. A critical feature of the approach is that it is community-based from data acquisition through to community members participating in construction.  相似文献

针对澄合矿区王村矿井部分巷道及硐室围岩变形破坏严重的现状,以围岩抗压强度、围岩泊松比、侧压力系数、围岩弹性模量、巷道埋深、巷道跨度、最大应力集中系数及围岩平均移动速率作为围岩稳定性因子,通过对8条典型巷道及硐室围岩稳定性因子的现场实测,并对所得数据进行模糊等价聚类分析的基础上,将围岩稳定性划分为极不稳定、不稳定、基本稳定、稳定及非常稳定等5类。在此基础上,将围岩稳定性影响因子分为最主要因素、主要因素及一般因素3大类,进而确定各监测巷道及硐室的围岩稳定性类别。结果表明,模糊等价聚类分析具有较强的工程适用性,是解决矿井围岩稳定性分析的一种有效方法,基于该方法得到的围岩稳定性影响因子分类和围岩类别可以为合理设计围岩支护方案及其参数提供理论依据。  相似文献

既有建筑物地下室增层开挖可有效利用地下空间,是目前改善停车难问题的主要手段之一。既有建筑地下室增层开挖将改变原有桩基础的受力性状,从而可能引起原有桩基础屈曲失稳。提出一种预测地下室增层开挖既有桩基失稳的临界荷载及稳定计算长度的理论解法。首先,结合浙江饭店地下室增层开挖工程,简单介绍增层开挖方案。之后,通过Winkler弹性地基梁理论建立增层开挖工况下单桩基础桩-土体系总势能方程。最后,利用最小势能原理导得增层开挖工况下单桩基础屈曲失稳的临界荷载及稳定计算长度的表达式。在此基础上,研究了桩身临界荷载的影响因素。计算结果表明:随着半波数n的增加,既有桩基的临界荷载逐渐收敛;既有桩基的临界荷载随开挖深度的增大而急剧减小。分析结果可为类似地下室增层开挖工程的设计提供依据,减少开挖引起既有桩基础失稳隐患。  相似文献

顶板诱导崩落是一种新的空区处理技术,其实施效果与诱导崩落施工路径、方法和顺序有关,同时矿岩体作为一种弹塑性体,具有非线性时变力学特征。运用时变力学的基本理论,建立了顶板诱导崩落的时变力学有限元基本方程。针对大厂铜坑矿92号矿体试验采场的地质特征,构建了顶板诱导崩落的时变力学有限元模型,采用多步骤开挖模拟两种不同顶板诱导崩落模式,研究两种不同工序的顶板塑性区发展、东西预裂与崩顶硐室的位移及其安全系数,分析了其对采场的综合效应。结果表明,先预裂后崩顶的顶板诱导崩落模式有利于顶板崩落诱导,并综合考虑诱导崩落效果与作业安全,建议采用先预裂爆破后强制崩顶的微差爆破一次成型工艺。  相似文献
