The present article is the second in a series of baseline water quality evaluation studies in parts of south-eastern Nigeria.
Study results indicate that the water samples from the study are generally acidic, soft and fresh in addition to low sodium
and salinity hazard. Regression equations indicate a good positive correlation between conductivity and Na, Ca, Mg and SO4. Ca-SO4 and Ca-Cl constitute the major facies in the area. Generally the waters in the area are good for most domestic and agricultural
purposes.

The anomalous change of two polar sea ice and tropical ocean SST is a very important index for global climate monitoring and prediction. In this paper, the wave resonance principle is used to calculate month by month running cross couple correlation coefficient time series between sea ice in different sea area of two Polars, as well as between them and five elements of E1 Nino events, to analyze their variation features, and to find out their resonance periods. The resonance period of two waves is just the strongest interaction period.Some results are concluded as follows. 1) The Arctic sea ice to the Pacific-side (NPI1) and Atlantic-side (NP12) show a strong positive-negative feedback impact each other to the Antarctic Ross Sea ice (SPI2) with equal intensity. 2) Both NPI1 and NPI2 give a strong positive and negative feedback to the Antarctic Wedded Sea ice (SPI3) while it is rather weak in convercse status. It means that, the Arctic sea ice plays a leading and controlling role on the Wedded Sea ice. 3) SST of Nino 4 area in thecentral equatorial Pacific has a best resonance period with SPI2 with cycle period of 132 months. It closely relates to quasi-11 years oscillation period of both SST of Nino 4 area and SPI2. SST of Nino 4 has also a resonance period to SPI3 with cycle of 61 months. There also exist strong interaction periods between the Antarctic sea ice and other elements of ENSO event but weaker than SST of Nino 4 area. 相似文献

A nonlinear magnitude frequency equation has been derived in this paper on the assumption that all seismicity systems hold
fractal characteristics, and according to the differences of relevant coefficients in the equation, seismicity systems are
classified into two types: type I, the whole earthquake activity is controlled by only one great unified system; type II,
the whole earthquake activity is controlled by more than one great system. One type of seismicity system may convert to the
other type, generally. For example, a type I system will change to a type II system prior to the occurrence of a strong earthquake
in North China. This change can be regarded as an index for earthquake trend estimation. In addition, the difference between
b value in nonlinear magnitude frequency equation and that in linear equation and the term dΔM related to the coefficients of nonlinear terms obtained in this paper are proved to be a pair of available parameters for

Part 1 of this study assessed the effectiveness of dispersion models based around random particle tracking (RPT) applied
an overbank flow in the Flood Channel Facility at HR Wallingford. Several of the RPT models that were used predicted the mixing
behaviour of the tracer in the complex channel flow to within an acceptable accuracy. If there is no uniqueness in the model
structure which can be used to represent the true system to within the limitations of the available observations, then this
implies an inherent degree of ambiguity in our knowledge of the physically based model structure. This suggests that we should
be less forthright in the optimisation of each individual model structure, and perhaps investigate more of the parameter combinations
for each model which yield feasible simulations of the system. An alternative fuzzy calibration technique is introduced which
avoids the optimisation process and takes account of uncertainties in the model structure, parameter sets and observed data
