Analytic treatments of a particle encountering a collisionless shock have commonly been based on the assumption that the shock surface is quasi-planar with length scales larger than the particle gyroradius. Within this framework, the particle distribution function width is supposed to be conserved in any shock reflection process. It is well known, however, that the thermal energy associated with backstreaming ions upstream of Earth's bow shock is significantly larger than the incident solar wind thermal energy. In a previous study, we found that non-thermal features of ions reflected quasi-adiabatically can be accounted for by considering the effect of small, normally distributed fluctuations of the shock normal over short temporal or spatial scales. The strong dependence of the particle acceleration on shock geometry leads to an increase in the temperature and to a non-thermal tail. Here, we conduct a similar analysis to investigate the effects of small, normally distributed fluctuations in the shock normal direction for specularly reflected ions. This later mechanism is considered of first importance in the dissipation process occurring at quasi-perpendicular shocks. We have derived the probability distribution functions f(v) and f(v) of ions issued from a specular reflection of incident solar wind in the presence of normal direction fluctuations. These distributions deviate weakly from a Maxwellian, in agreement with the observations. In particular, a qualitative agreement with the ion thermal energy is obtained for fluctuations of the normal orientation in the 5-8° range about the nominal direction. Also, we have found that the shock θBn has a weak effect on the shape of the distribution. While, not a strong determinant of the reflected distribution characteristics, the dynamical shock structure at ion scales cannot be ignored when accounting for the shock-accelerated particle thermal energy.  相似文献

Here we report a radio burst in absorption at 9?–?30 MHz observed with the UTR-2 telescope. This event occurred on 19 August 2003 about 11:16?–?11:26 UT, against solar type IV/II emission background. It is the first event where absorption was observed below 30 MHz. The absorption region, comparable with the solar radius size, traveled a long distance into the upper corona from the Sun. We show that the burst minimum corresponds to the almost full absorption of the solar radio emission up to a background level of the quiescent Sun. This supports the interpretation of the phenomenon as an absorption. The result is examined independently with the Nançay Decameter Array measurements and the Wind WAVES instrument records.  相似文献

Non-similarity solutions are obtained for one-dimensional isothermal and adiabatic flow behind strong cylindrical shock wave propagation in a rotational axisymmetric dusty gas,which has a variable azimuthal and axial fluid velocity.The dusty gas is assumed to be a mixture of small solid particles and perfect gas.The equilibrium flow conditions are assumed to be maintained,and the density of the mixture is assumed to be varying and obeying an exponential law.The fluid velocities in the ambient medium are assumed to obey exponential laws.The shock wave moves with variable velocity.The effects of variation of the mass concentration of solid particles in the mixture,and the ratio of the density of solid particles to the initial density of the gas on the flow variables in the region behind the shock are investigated at given times.Also,a comparison between the solutions in the cases of isothermal and adiabatic flows is made.  相似文献

We present hydrodynamic simulations of molecular outflows driven by jets with a long period of precession, motivated by observations of arc-like features and S-symmetry in outflows associated with young stars. We simulate images of not only H2 vibrational and CO rotational emission lines, but also of atomic emission. The density cross-section displays a jaw-like cavity, independent of precession rate. In molecular hydrogen, however, we find ordered chains of bow shocks and meandering streamers which contrast with the chaotic structure produced by jets in rapid precession. A feature particularly dominant in atomic emission is a stagnant point in the flow that remains near the inlet and alters shape and brightness as the jet skims by. Under the present conditions, slow jet precession yields a relatively high fraction of mass accelerated to high speeds, as also attested to in simulated CO line profiles. Many outflow structures, characterized by HH 222 (continuous ribbon), HH 240 (asymmetric chains of bow shocks) and RNO 43N (protruding cavities), are probably related to the slow-precession model.  相似文献

The power-law decay of the X-ray emission of gamma-ray burst (GRB) afterglows 050319, 050401, 050607, 050713A, 050802 and 050922C exhibits a steepening at about 1–4 h after the burst which, surprisingly, is not accompanied by a break in the optical emission. If it is assumed that both the optical and X-ray afterglows arise from the same outflow then, in the framework of the standard forward shock model, the chromaticity of the X-ray light-curve breaks indicates that they do not arise solely from a mechanism related to the outflow dynamics (e.g. energy injection) or the angular distribution of the blast-wave kinetic energy (structured outflows or jets). The lack of a spectral evolution accompanying the X-ray light-curve break shows that these breaks do not arise from the passage of a spectral break (e.g. the cooling frequency) either. Under these circumstances, the decoupling of the X-ray and optical decays requires that the microphysical parameters for the electron and magnetic energies in the forward shock evolve in time, whether the X-ray afterglow is synchrotron or inverse-Compton emission. For a steady evolution of these parameters with the Lorentz factor of the forward shock and an X-ray light curve arising cessation of energy injection into the blast wave, the optical and X-ray properties of the above six Swift afterglows require a circumburst medium with a r −2 radial stratification, as expected for a massive star origin for long GRBs. Alternatively, the chromatic X-ray light-curve breaks may indicate that the optical and X-ray emissions arise from different outflows. Neither feature (evolution of microphysical parameters or the different origin of the optical and X-ray emissions) was clearly required by pre-Swift afterglows.  相似文献

The contraction of matter in the primordial medium, to form the first gravitationally bound structures, was mediated by radiative cooling of the gas by H2 and HD. We have computed the initial phases of free-fall collapse, incorporating the results of quantum mechanical calculations of rate coefficients for collisional excitation of H2 and HD by the principal perturbers, H, He, H2 and H+. The structure of shock waves produced when the collapse speed exceeds the local sound speed is determined. In the post-shock gas, radiative cooling by H2 exceeds that by HD, but by a factor of only 4. The intensities of the strongest emission lines of H2– rotational transitions within the vibrational ground state – are calculated. Even with coarse spectral and angular resolution, these transitions might be observable as inhomogeneities in the cosmic background radiation.  相似文献

We consider the interaction of an ionization-shock front with isothermal waves in an H I region. Based on a two-front model in the linear approximation, we have detected a significant (approximately by an order of magnitude) periodic amplification of perturbations as they penetrate from the interstellar medium into an H II region. Numerical simulations have revealed that even when the shock-and ionization-front velocities differ and the relative density perturbations in the interstellar medium are ~10?1, the variations in gas parameters near the ionization front are comparable to those observed at the boundaries of H II regions.  相似文献
