GeoStar is the registered trademark of GIS software made by WTUSM in China. By means of the GeoStar, multi-scale images, DEMs, graphics and attributes integrated in very large seamless databases can be created, and the multi-dimensional dynamic visualization and information extraction are also available. This paper describes the fundamental characteristics of such huge integrated databases, for instance, the data models, database structures and the spatial index strategies. At last, the typical applications of GeoStar for a few pilot projects like the Shanghai CyberCity and the Guangdong provincial spatial data infrastructure (SDI) are illustrated and several concluding remarks are stressed.  相似文献

Point set generalization is one of the essential problems in map generalization. On the demands analysis of point set generalization, this paper proposes a method to generalize point sets based on the Kohonen Net model; the standard SOM algorithm has been improved so as to preserve the spatial distribution properties of the original point set. Abstract

</p>Gamepads and joysticks have the potential to improve spatial navigation in virtual globes, block diagrams and 2D maps. Digital school atlases, in particular, can become more engaging if support for gamepads and joysticks is added, as children and adolescents are very proficient at using these devices. The fusion of gaming devices and interactive school atlases offers interesting new use cases: teachers can control a digital wall map with a remote-control gamepad while lecturing from the front of the classroom, or students can explore maps on their personal computers using an enticing way to interact. This paper presents these use cases, the characteristics of the most common gaming devices, and discusses spatial navigation with gamepads and joysticks for globes, block diagrams and 2D maps. Latitudinal gravity profiles have been generated in the Bhuj, Anjar and IBF regions across the epicentres (23.5° N, 69.8° E/M<sub>w</sub> 7.0 in 2001; 23.2° N, 70° E/M<sub>w</sub> 7.0 in 1956; 24.2° N, 69.2° E/M<sub>w</sub> 7.8 in 1819). Substantial differences in gravity anomaly patterns as high as 37 mGal could be observed existing near the epicentre regions. These gravitational differences might have caused due to the plate tectonic processes and due to the changes in densities of different lithospheric zones/sedimentary layers. Temporal variations of the satellite-derived gravity and their probable relations with already occurred major earthquakes in this region have been studied. In this paper, the conventional approaches are analyzed. Based on raster data areal objects, the authors propose two new methods for measuring similarity among spatial directions. One is to measure the similarity among spatial directions based on the features of raster data and the changes of distances between spatial objects, the other is to measure the similarity among spatial directions according to the variation of each raster cell centroid angle. The two methods overcome the complexity of measuring similarity among spatial directions with direction matrix model and solve the limitation of small changes in direction. In most of existing studies, these two kinds of vagueness are studied separately. This paper investigates their combination in identification of coast landscape units. Fuzzy set theory is used to describe the vagueness of geomorphic features due to the continuity in space. The vagueness resulted from the scale of measurement is evaluated by statistic indicators. The units are addressable with geocodes that provide a bijective mapping between territories and unique identification codes. Early warning systems for natural or man-made hazards often map affected or threatened areas to administrative units to establish a spatial reference that is comprehensible to all parts of the population. Addressing these territories in an international context has several requirements, such as worldwide coverage, completeness and topicality, which must be met by geocode standards. In this paper, the practicability and suitability of international geocode standards are examined in the context of the requirements of large-scale early warning systems. This paper exposes the insufficiencies and limitations of existing geocode standards International Organization for Standardization (ISO)-3166, Second Administrative Level Boundaries data set project (SALB) and Nomenclature of the Territorial Units for Statistics (NUTS) and emphasises the suitability of the non-official hierarchical administrative subdivision codes (HASC). The analysis is framed in the context of addressing affected areas for an Indian Ocean tsunami early warning system.
