The Venus mesosphere constitutes a highly variable transition region between the zonal rotation of the lower atmosphere and the diurnal circulation of the upper atmosphere. It further serves as the primary photochemical region of the Venus atmosphere. We obtained James Clerk Maxwell Telescope (JCMT, Mauna Kea Hawaii) sub-millimeter line observations of mesospheric 12CO and 13CO during coordinated space (MESSENGER and Venus Express) and ground-based observations of Venus in June of 2007. Such CO spectra line measurements support temperature, CO mixing ratio, and wind retrievals over the 80-110 km altitude range, encompassing the upper mesosphere and lower thermosphere of Venus. Five-point beam integrations were obtained across the observed Venus disk, allowing distinction of afternoon (noon to 6 p.m.) versus evening (6 p.m. to midnight) local times and northern (0-60N) versus southern (0-60S) latitudes. Distinctive diurnal variations (noon to midnight) are retrieved for both temperatures above 95 km and CO mixing ratios above 85 km altitudes. Separate CO line maps obtained on (UT) June 2, 3, 6, and 11 indicate moderate daily variability in afternoon and evening CO mixing ratios (20-50%) and temperatures (5-10 K). Average Venus mesospheric temperatures over this period were 10 K warmer than returned from 1978 to 1979 Pioneer Venus or 2000-01 sub-millimeter measurements, without evidence for the very large temperature inversions indicated by Venus Express SPICAV measurements at 90-100 km altitudes (Bertaux, J.L., Vandaele, A.-C., Korablev, O., Villard, E., Fedorova, A., Fussen, D., Quémerais, E., Belyaev, D., Mahieux, A., Montmessin, F., Muller, C., Neefs, E., Nevejans, D., Wilquet, V., Dubois, J.P. Observations of Saturn's distant moon Phoebe were made at far-ultraviolet (FUV) (1100-1900 Å) and extreme-ultraviolet (EUV) (600-1100 Å) wavelengths by the Cassini Ultraviolet Imaging Spectrograph (UVIS) during the Cassini spacecraft flyby on June 11, 2004. These are the first UV spectra of Phoebe and the first detection of water ice on a Solar System surface using FUV wavelengths. The characteristics of water ice in the FUV are presented, and Hapke models are used to interpret the spectra in terms of composition and grain size; the use of both areal and intimate mixing models is explored. Non-ice species used in these models include carbon, ice tholin, Triton tholin, poly-HCN and kerogen. Satisfactory disk-integrated fits are obtained for intimate mixtures of ∼10% H2O plus a non-ice species. Spatially resolved regions of higher (∼20%) and lower (∼5%) H2O ice concentrations are also detected. Phoebe does not display any evidence of volatile activity. Upper limits on atomic oxygen and carbon are 5×1011 and 2×1012 atoms/cm2, respectively, for solar photon scattering. The UVIS detection of water ice on Phoebe, and the ice amounts detected, are consistent with IR measurements and contribute to the evidence for a Phoebe origin in the outer Solar System rather than in the main asteroid belt. 相似文献

The dramatic hemispheric dichotomy in albedo displayed by Saturn's moon Iapetus has intrigued astronomers for centuries. Here we report on far-ultraviolet observations of Iapetus' bright and dark terrains from Cassini. We compare the reflectance spectra of Iapetus's dark terrain, Hyperion and Phoebe and find that both Phoebe and Hyperion are richer in water ice than Iapetus' dark terrain. Spectra of the lowest latitudes of the dark terrain display the diagnostic water ice absorption feature; water ice amounts increase within the dark material away from the apex (at 90° W longitude, the center of the dark leading hemisphere), consistent with thermal segregation of water ice. The water ice in the darkest, warmest low latitude regions is not expected to be stable and may be a sign of ongoing or recent emplacement of the dark material from an exogenic source. 相似文献

The mid-infrared spectra of mixed vapor deposited ices of CO2 and H2O were studied as a function of both deposition temperature and warming from 15 to 100 K. The spectra of ices deposited at 15 K show marked changes on warming beginning at 60 K. These changes are consistent with CO2 segregating within the ice matrix into pure CO2 domains. Ices deposited at 60 and 70 K show a greater degree of segregation, as high as 90% for 1:4 CO2:H2O ice mixtures deposited at 70 K. As the ice is warmed above 80 K, preferential sublimation of the segregated CO2 is observed. The kinetics of the segregation process is also examined. The segregation of the CO2 as the ice is warmed corresponds to temperatures at which the structure of the water ice matrix changes from the high density amorphous phase to the low density amorphous phase. We show how these microstructural changes in the ice have a profound effect on the photochemistry induced by ultraviolet irradiation. These experimental results provide a framework in which observations of CO2 on the icy bodies of the outer Solar System can be considered. 相似文献

We report laboratory experiments and modeling calculations investigating the effect of a hydrocarbon coating on ammonia ice spectral signatures. Observational evidence and thermochemical models indicate an abundance of ammonia ice clouds in Jupiter's atmosphere. However, spectrally identifiable ammonia ice clouds are found covering less than 1% of Jupiter's atmosphere, notably in areas of strong vertical transport, indicating a short lifetime for the signature of ammonia absorption on condensed ammonia particles [Baines, K.H., Carlson, R.W., Kamp, L.W., 2002. Icarus 159, 74-94]. Current literature has suggested coating of ammonia ice particles by a hydrocarbon haze as a possible explanation for this paradox. The work presented here supports the inference of a coating effect that can alter or suppress ammonia absorption features. In the experiments, thin films of ammonia ices are deposited in a cryogenic apparatus, coated with hydrocarbons, and characterized by reflection-absorption infrared spectroscopy. We have observed the effects on the ammonia ice absorption features near 3 and 9 μm with coverage by thin layers of hydrocarbons. Modeling calculations of these multilayer thin films assist in the interpretation of the experimental results and reveal the important role of optical interference in altering the aforementioned ammonia spectral features. Mie and T-matrix scattering calculations demonstrate analogous effects for ammonia ice particles and investigate the relative effects of ammonia ice particle size, shape, and coating layer thickness on the ice particle spectral signatures. 相似文献

祖母绿是一种名贵彩色宝石,其产地来源对祖母绿价值的评定具有重要影响。祖母绿的产地鉴别因而成为宝石实验室的重要技术,也是宝石学领域的研究热点。祖母绿的包裹体、谱学特征和化学成分是常用且关键的产地鉴别信息,但随着祖母绿产地研究数据的积累,传统的产地鉴别方法备受挑战。文章系统整理和归纳分析了全球各产地祖母绿的宝石学特征、包裹体信息、谱学特征和主微量成分数据,在综述前人研究结果的基础上,系统阐明了目前祖母绿产地鉴别的研究现状,总结了不同产地祖母绿的宝石学特征和包裹体特征,划分了紫外-可见光-近红外(UV-VIS-NIR)光谱类型,揭示了各产地祖母绿的成分指纹信息,并以案例的形式阐明区分祖母绿常见重要产地的方法。全球尺度的对比虽然表明不同产地祖母绿包裹体种类多数雷同、光谱趋同、成分含量范围重叠明显,但也从包裹体出现频率、UV-VIS-NIR光谱样式类型、重水吸收样式和成分投图参数的选择上提供了产地鉴别的新思路。综上所述,文章旨在促进祖母绿鉴别技术的发展,为祖母绿的产地溯源提供科学依据。 相似文献

福建云霄是我国重要的宝石级石榴子石产地,然而该区石榴子石的致色机理不清,制约了对其形成机制的理解及后续开发利用。本文选取7件福建云霄橙黄-橙红色石榴子石样品,利用傅立叶红外光谱、紫外-可见光光谱和拉曼光谱分析其谱学特征,使用电子探针及激光剥蚀电感耦合等离子体质谱仪(LA-ICP-MS)分析限定其主量、微量元素组成。结果表明云霄石榴子石主要为锰铝榴石,其颜色主要与二价锰(Mn2+)和铁离子(Fe2+)对可见光的吸收有关,Mn2+导致其主体呈橙色,少量Fe2+控制其橙红色调,微量Ti4+使其呈褐色调。福建云霄石榴子石样品核部锰含量相对较低而铁、镁含量较高,锰元素含量由核部向边部逐渐升高,且具有重稀土元素富集、轻稀土元素亏损的左倾配分模式和Eu负异常,表明其形成于岩浆结晶作用晚期。 相似文献

The flybys of Jupiter by the Voyager spacecraft in 1979, and over two decades later by Cassini in 2000, have provided us with unique datasets from two different epochs, allowing the investigation of seasonal change in the atmosphere. In this paper we model zonal averages of thermal infrared spectra from the two instruments, Voyager 1 IRIS and Cassini CIRS, to retrieve the vertical and meridional profiles of temperature, and the abundances of the two minor hydrocarbons, acetylene (C2H2) and ethane (C2H6). The spatial variation of these gases is controlled by both chemistry and dynamics, and therefore their observed distribution gives us an insight into both processes. We find that the two gases paint quite different pictures of seasonal change. Whilst the 2-D cross-section of C2H6 abundance is slightly increased and more symmetric in 2000 (northern summer solstice) compared to 1979 (northern fall equinox), the major trend of equator to pole increase remains. For C2H2 on the other hand, the Voyager epoch exhibits almost no latitudinal variation, whilst the Cassini era shows a marked decrease polewards in both hemispheres. At the present time, these experimental findings are in advance of interpretation, as there are no published models of 2-D Jovian seasonal chemical variation available for comparison. 相似文献

A study, aimed at characterizing the nature of anthropogenic and biogenic hydrocarbon contamination in the groundwater of
Kuwait, was carried out using fluorescence spectroscopy and other analytical techniques. The results of these analyses have
demonstrated that the groundwater in certain areas of northern Kuwait has been significantly impacted by contamination originating
from the oil-contaminated surface soils. The study revealed that a water-soluble fraction (WSF) of the crude oil surface contamination
appeared to be slowly leaching into the freshwater lenses located in the area. The study also showed that hydrocarbon pollutants
were practically absent in the brackish water areas of central and southern Kuwait, except for a few isolated sites. However,
nonpetroleum hydrocarbons, with ultraviolet-visible absorption characteristics and fluorescence characteristics typically
