Nowadays, Global Geopotential Models (GGMs) are used as a routine stage in the procedures to compute a gravimetric geoid.
The GGMs based geoidal height also can be used for GPS/levelling and navigation purposes in developing countries which do
not have accurate gravimetric geoid models. Also, the GGM based gravity anomaly including the digital elevation model can
be used in evaluation and outlier detections schemes of the ground gravity anomaly data. Further, the deflection of vertical
and gravity gradients components from the GGMs can be used for different geodetic and geophysical interpretation purposes.
However, still a complete and user-friendly software package is not available for universities and geosciences communities.
In this article, first we review the procedure for determination of the basic gravity field and gradient components from the
GGMs, then general MATLAB based software is presented and applied as a sample case study for determination of gravity components
based on the most recent EIGEN-GL04C GRACE model in Sweden.

Runoff from abundant rainfall on the watersheds along the east coast of Nicaragua results in a well-defined nearshore current, extending 20–40 km out from the coast. Important terms in the controlling dynamical balance are the Coriolis forces, and eddy frictional forces. Calculations of the diabathic surface slope 0(10?5) show a smooth setup of 4–5 cm from the outer edge of the current to the shoreline. A longshore surface slope of 0(10?8) appears to be set up by the longshore wind stress, and further computations allow an estimate of ~ 6 gr cm?1 s?1 for the dynamic eddy viscosity. An analytical expression including diabathic surface slope and density gradient, parabathic surface slope, wind stress, and quadratic bottom friction reproduces the salient observed features of the nearshore current. These include the pronounced maximum in the parabathic (along-shelf) current about 10 km off the coast, a complex diabathic velocity structure, and a shelf countercurrent just seaward of the outer edge. Further calculations suggest that the dominant driving arises from the freshwater-induced density gradients, accounting for upward of 80% of the flow velocity. As suggested by Royer (1982), the prevailing trade wind exerts an onshore wind stress that serves the important role of maintaining the integrity of the density gradients via the convergence of a surface Ekman layer toward the coast. 相似文献

The mass transport as measured in the Rotterdam Waterway Estuary and in the tidal salinity flume of the Delft Hydraulics Laboratory is analysed to obtain insight into the magnitude of the dispersive mass transport in narrow estuaries. It is found that the magnitude of the dispersive mass transport in the real time one-dimensional advection-diffusion equation varies considerably over the tidal cycle, that the ratio between the magnitude of the dispersive mass transport by the net vertical circulation and by the vertical oscillatory shear in the tidally averaged one-dimensional advection-diffusion equation decreases when the degree of stratification in the flume is decreased, and that the dispersive mass transport in the Rotterdam Waterway and in the tidal salinity flume is affected significantly by the mixing processes at sea near the estuary mouth. 相似文献

Species composition and factors that control the distribution of freshwater swamp forests in West Africa are largely unknown. To achieve this, 24, one‐hectare forest plots were established to assess the tree species (DBH ≥ 10 cm) distribution across the ecosystem. A total of 138 species within 100 genera and 41 families were distributed across the forest plots and 47 species were identified as indicator species. These indicator species were used to constrain the species‐environmental categories across three broad habitat types: the disturbed freshwater zone, the mangrove‐freshwater transition zone and the intact freshwater zone. While 40 species are associated with one of the three forest categories, seven of them coexisted in disturbed and mangrove‐freshwater zones. Disturbance (local factors) was identified as the most important determinant of the species distribution followed by the climatic factors. Future climate predictions for the locations are quite variable and suggest that some species may be non‐viable as the ecosystem's composition may alter. While the indicator species provides insights on the species‐environment relationships, and is useful for informing forest conservation and planning, their tendency to continually co‐exist with others and provide vital functions is dependent on how sustainably the people use them. 相似文献

The impact of GOCE Satellite Gravity Gradiometer data on gravity field models was tested. All models were constructed with the same Laser Geodynamics Satellite (LAGEOS) and Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) data, which were combined with one or two of the diagonal gravity gradient components for the entire GOCE mission (November 2009 to October 2013). The Stokes coefficients were estimated by solving large normal equation (NE) systems (i.e., the direct numerical approach). The models were evaluated through comparisons with the European Space Agency's (ESA) gravity field model DIR-R5, by GPS/Leveling, GOCE orbit determination, and geostrophic current evaluations. Among the single gradient models, only the model constructed with the vertical ZZ gradients gave good results that were in agreement with the formal errors. The model based only on XX gradients is the least accurate. The orbit results for all models are very close and confirm this finding. All models constructed with two diagonal gradient components are more accurate than the ZZ-only model due to doubling the amount of data and having two complementary observation directions. This translates also to a slower increase of model errors with spatial resolution. The different evaluation methods cannot unambiguously identify the most accurate two-component model. They do not always agree, emphasizing the importance of evaluating models using many different methods. The XZ gravity gradient gives a small positive contribution to model accuracy. 相似文献

A quantitative spatial analysis of mineral deposit distributions in relation to their proximity to a variety of structural elements is used to define parameters that can influence metal endowment, deposit location and the resource potential of a region. Using orogenic gold deposits as an example, geostatistical techniques are applied in a geographic-information-systems-based regional-scale analysis in the high-data-density Yilgarn Craton of Western Australia. Metal endowment (gold production and gold ‘rank’ per square kilometer) is measured in incremental buffer regions created in relation to vector lines, such as faults. The greatest metal tonnages are related to intersections of major faults with regional anticlines and to fault jogs, particularly those of dilatant geometry. Using fault length in parameter search, there is a strong association between crustal-scale shear zones/faults and deposits. Nonetheless, it is the small-scale faults that are marginal or peripheral to the larger-scale features that are more prospective. Gravity gradients (depicted as multiscale edges or gravity ‘worms’) show a clear association to faults that host gold deposits. Long wavelength/long strikelength edges, interpreted as dominantly fault-related, have greater metal endowment and provide a first-order area selection filter for exploration, particularly in areas of poor exposure. Statistical analysis of fault, fold and gravity gradient patterns mainly affirms empirical exploration criteria for orogenic gold deposits, such as associations with crustal-scale faults, anticlinal hinge zones, dilational jogs, elevated fault roughness, strong rheological contrasts and medium metamorphic grade rocks. The presence and concurrence of these parameters determine the metallogenic endowment of a given fault system and segments within the system. By quantifying such parameters, the search area for exploration can be significantly reduced by an order of magnitude, while increasing the chance of discovery. 相似文献

The Himalayan Metamorphic Front consists of two basinal sequences deposited on the Indian passive margin, the Mesoproterozoic Lesser Himalayan Sequence and the Neoproterozoic–Cambrian Greater Himalayan Sequence. The current paradigm is that the unconformity between these two basinal sequences coincides with a crustal-scale thrust that has been called the Main Central Thrust, and that this acted as the fundamental structure that controlled the architecture of the Himalayan Metamorphic Front. Geological mapping of eastern Nepal and eight detailed stratigraphic, kinematic, strain and metamorphic profiles through the Himalayan Metamorphic Front define the crustal architecture. In eastern Nepal the unconformity does not coincide with a discrete structural or metamorphic discontinuity and is not a discrete high strain zone. In recognition of this, we introduce the term Himalayan Unconformity to distinguish it from high strain zones in the Himalayan Metamorphic Front. The fundamental structure that controls orogen architecture in eastern Nepal occurs at higher structural levels within the Greater Himalayan Sequence and we suggest the name; High Himal Thrust. This 100–400 m thick mylonite zone marks a sharp deformation discontinuity associated with a steep metamorphic transition, and separates the Upper-Plate from the Lower-Plate in the Himalayan Metamorphic Front. The high-T/moderate-P metamorphism at 20–24 Ma in the Upper-Plate reflects extrusion of material between the High Himal Thrust and the South Tibet Detachment System at the top of the section. The Lower-Plate is a broad schistose zone of inverted, diachronous moderate-T/high-P metamorphic rocks formed between 18 and 6 Ma. The High Himal Thrust is laterally continuous into Sikkim and Bhutan where it also occurs at higher structural levels than the Himalayan Unconformity and Main Central Thrust (as originally defined). To the west in central Nepal, the Upper-Plate/Lower-Plate boundary has been placed at lower structural levels, coinciding with the Himalayan Unconformity and has been named the Main Central Thrust, above the originally defined Main Central Thrust (or Ramgarh Thrust). 相似文献

Sea surface temperature (SST) is a result of multiple interactions in air-sea processes. During days with strong insolation and low wind speed, there may be uneven net heating of the water layer near the surface of the ocean, when there are horizontal temperature gradients at the sea surface. Cooling of the water caused by evaporation, sensible, or longwave radiative, heat loss would be greater from warm water compared to that from relatively cold water. As a result, under low wind speed conditions and clear skies, the horizontal SST discontinuities, occurring at fronts, eddies, or in storm wakes, may diminish or even vanish. This phenomenon is illustrated here with some field and modelling results. The dependence on latitude and mean environmental conditions of the difference in warming on the cold and warm side of SST discontinuities is explored. The time dependence is important for the impact on remote sensing of SST, and it is found to be short enough that substantial masking of SST gradients can occur during the first six hours of the diurnal heating cycle, but the effect would continue to grow if calm and solar heating persist for several subsequent days. An integrated effect of this uneven net heating is seen in the seasonal masking of subsurface temperature gradients in the Gulf of Mexico and Florida Straits. 相似文献
