Artificial Intelligence (AI) may be regarded as an attempt to understand the processes of perception and reasoning that underlie successful problem-solving and to incorporate the results of this research in effective computer programs. At present, AI is largely a collection of sophisticated programming techniques. Many of these techniques are based on the premise that the manner in which knowledge is acquired, organized, accessed and modified in both humans and machines provides the basis of “intelligent” decision-making. The techniques of AI are applicable to a wide variety of geographical problems, including the modeling of individual and aggregate decision-making, and the construction of expert systems and “intelligent” geographical information systems. 相似文献

Multiple-expert hazard/risk assessments have considerable precedent, particularly in the Yucca Mountain site characterization
studies. A certain amount of expert knowledge is needed to interpret the geological data used in a probabilistic data analysis.
As may be the situation in science, experts disagree on crucial points. Consequently, lack of consensus in some studies is
a sure outcome. In this paper, we present a Bayesian approach to statistical modeling in volcanic hazard assessment for the
Yucca Mountain site. Specifically, we show that the expert opinion on the site disruption parameterp is incorporated into the prior distribution, π(p), based on geological information that is available. Moreover, π(p) can
combine all available geological information motivated by conflicting but realistic arguments (e.g., simulation, cluster analysis,
structural control, ..., etc.). The incorporated uncertainties about the probability of repository disruptionp
eventually will be averaged out by taking the expectation over π(p). We use the following priors in the analysis: (1) priors
selected for mathematical convenience: Beta (r,s) for (r,s) = (2, 2), (3, 3), (5, 5), (2, 1),(2, 8), (8, 2), and (1, 1);and (2) three priors motivated by expert knowledge. Sensitivity analysis is performed for each prior distribution. Our study
concludes that estimated values of hazard based on the priors selected for mathematical simplicity are uniformly higher than
those obtained based on the priors motivated by expert knowledge. And, the model using the prior, Beta (8, 2), yields the
highest hazard (=2.97 × 10-2
. The minimum hazard is produced by the “three-expert prior” (i.e., values of
p
are equally likely for
p = 10-3, 10-2,and 10-1
. The estimate of the hazard is 1.39 × 10-3, which is only about one order of magnitude smaller than the maximum value. The term, “hazard, ” is defined as the probability
of at least one disruption of a repository at the Yucca Mountain site by basaltic volcanism for the next 10,000 years. 相似文献

Our study examines the relationships among various environmental variables in Surat city using remote sensing. Landsat Thematic Mapper satellite data were used in conjugation with geospatial techniques to study urbanization and correlation among satellite-derived biophysical parameters namely, normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), normalized difference built-up index (NDBI), normalized difference water index (NDWI), normalized difference bareness index (NDBaI) and land surface temperature (LST). A modified NDWI (MNDWI) was used for extracting areas under water. Land use/land cover classification was performed using hierarchical decision tree classification technique using ERDAS IMAGINE Expert classifier with an accuracy of 90.4% for 1990 and 85% for 2009. It was found that city has expanded over 42.75 sq.km within two decades. Built-up, fallow and sediment land use classes exhibited high dynamics with increase of nearly 200% and 50% and decrease of 55% respectively from 1990 to 2009. Vegetation and water classes were less dynamic with 20% decrease and 15% increase. The transformation of land parcels from vegetation to built-up, vegetation to fallow and fallow to built-up has resulted in increase of LST by 5.5 ± 2.6°C, 6.7 ± 3°C and 3.5 ± 2.9°C, respectively. 相似文献

The sources of energy for evaporation on tropical islands were explored by studying 49 lowland sites in the Hawaiian Islands with concurrent pan evaporation and solar radiation measurements. The Priestley-Taylor (1972) method was used to quantify the contribution of solar radiation in evaporation and the residual term between estimated and measured evaporation was attributed to heat advection. Pearson correlation coefficients between monthly measured and estimated evaporation (using solar radiation data) were greater than 0.95 at 26 of the sites, 0.90 for 37 sites, and 0.80 at 46 of the 49 sites used in the study. As expected, solar radiation supplies the bulk of the energy absorbed by evaporation at low elevations in Hawaii. However, a pattern of negative advection in summer and positive advection in winter from the surrounding ocean modifies the monthly evaporation values. For the 20 sites showing the greatest oceanic influence, departures ranged, on average, from +0.84 mm/day in November to -0.71 mm/day in June. This onshore advection corresponds to the seasonal lag in sea surface temperatures. At inland and wet lee sites, the effect of advection from oceanic sources diminishes. At dry lee sites, strong positive advection is evident in summer and autumn, enhancing evaporation by up to 2.8 mm/day. [Key words: evaporation, energy, tropical islands, radiation, advection] 相似文献
