The basic concepts of spectral and multiscale selective reconstruction of (geophysically relevant) vector fields on the sphere from error-affected data is outlined in detail. The reconstruction mechanism is formulated under the assumption that spectral as well as multiscale approximation is well-representable in terms of only a certain number of expansion coefficients at the various resolution levels. It is shown that spectral denoising by means of orthogonal expansions in terms of vector spherical harmonics reflects global a priori information of the noise (e.g., in form of a covariance tensor field), whereas multiscale signal-to-noise thresholding can be performed under locally dependent noise information within a multiresolution analysis in terms of spherical vector wavelets. An application of the multiscale formalism to Earth's magnetic field determination is presented. 相似文献

基于美国海军的空间分辨率为0.5°×0.5°月平均的GDEM(Generalized Digital Environmental Model )三维温盐资料,采用P Vector方法,计算了南海西部夏季冷涡及附近海域的三维环流,分析了此冷涡的水平结构和垂向结构及其季节变化规律。结果表明南海西部夏季冷涡所占据的海域为一上升流区,对应的是低温区和气旋式环流,其温度场具有明显的垂向层化结构,冷涡随深度增加而减弱。冷涡中心在上层靠近越南沿岸,在温跃层以下有离岸的趋势。此冷涡具有明显的季节性变化:在5、6月份冷涡开始形成,其范围达到110.75°E,最大切向流速为8 cm/s;在7、8月份冷涡达到强盛,其范围向东扩展至112.50°E,冷涡中心也向东移至(110.50°E,13.25°N),最大切向流速增加为30 cm/s;在9、10月份冷涡开始衰减。 相似文献

The impacts of mountain pine beetle disturbance on the energy balance of snow during the melt period

Mountain snowpacks provide most of the annual discharge of western US rivers, but the future of water resources in the western USA is tenuous, as climatic changes have resulted in earlier spring melts that have exacerbated summer droughts. Compounding changes to the physical environment are biotic disturbances including that of the mountain pine beetle (MPB), which has decimated millions of acres of western North American forests. At the watershed scale, MPB disturbance increases the peak hydrograph, and at the stand scale, the ‘grey’ phase of MPB canopy disturbance decreases canopy snow interception, increases snow albedo, increases net shortwave radiation, and decreases net longwave radiation versus the ‘red’ phase. Fewer studies have been conducted on the red phase of MPB disturbance and in the mixed coniferous stands that may follow MPB‐damaged forests. We measured the energy balance of four snowpacks representing different stages of MPB damage, management, and recovery: a lodgepole pine stand, an MPB‐infested stand in the red phase, a mixed coniferous stand (representing one successional trajectory), and a clear‐cut (representing reactive management) in the Tenderfoot Creek Experimental Forest in Montana, USA. Net longwave radiation was lower in the MPB‐infested stand despite higher basal area and plant area index of the other forests, suggesting that the desiccated needles serve as a less effective thermal buffer against longwave radiative losses. Eddy covariance observations of sensible and latent heat flux indicate that they are of similar but opposite magnitude, on the order of 20 MJ m?2 during the melt period. Further analyses reveal that net turbulent energy fluxes were near zero because of the temperature and atmospheric vapour pressure encountered during the melt period. Future research should place snow science in the context of forest succession and management and address important uncertainties regarding the timing and magnitude of needlefall events. Eddy correlation measurements within the Nile Delta allowed the determination of evapotranspiration (E) for seven crops (rice, maize, cotton, sugar beet, berseem, wheat and fava beans) using basin irrigation (BI), furrow irrigation (FI), BI with increased intervals (BIi), FI with increased intervals (FIi), strip irrigation (SI) and drip irrigation (DI). Total E values over the cropping season for rice (BI, BIi) were the highest (>600 mm), while those for sugar beet (DI), maize (SI and DI) and berseem (BIi) were the lowest (<250 mm). The differences were due to a combination of atmospheric demand, soil moisture, the presence of surface standing water, root depth, and the length and timing of the cropping season. The DI and SI methods had the advantage for water saving, while the FIi and BIi methods were effective for crops with shallow root lengths. Hydrocyclones are widely used in the mining and chemical industries. An attempt has been made in this study, to develop a CFD (computational fluid dynamics) model, which is capable of predicting the flow patterns inside the hydrocyclone, including accurate prediction of flow split as well as the size of the air-core. The flow velocities and air-core diameters are predicted by DRSM (differential Reynolds stress model) and LES (large eddy simulations) models were compared to experimental results. The predicted water splits and air-core diameter with LES and RSM turbulence models along with VOF (volume of fluid) model for the air phase, through the outlets for various inlet pressures were also analyzed. The LES turbulence model led to an improved turbulence field prediction and thereby to more accurate prediction of pressure and velocity fields. This improvement was distinctive for the axial profile of pressure, indicating that air-core development is principally a transport effect rather than a pressure effect. 相似文献

A model of a multivariate covariance function with an ellipsoidal directional correlation scale has been developed. The axes of the ellipsoidal scale are related to the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of a matrix B which characterizes the ellipsoid of the range of influence. The matrix B is found to be related to a matrix T which can be estimated directly from sparse sampling data and can be used to determine estimates of the matrix B. The method has been applied to both two-dimensional and three-dimensional cases. The numerical results show that the satisfactory accuracy is obtained with sparse sampling data from an anisotropic random function. 相似文献

The Fourier Integral Method: An efficient spectral method for simulation of random fields 总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4
The Fourier Integral Method (FIM) of spectral simulation, adapted to generate realizations of a random function in one, two, or three dimensions, is shown to be an efficient technique of non-conditional geostatistical simulation. The main contribution is the use of the fast Fourier transform for both numerical calculus of the density spectral function and as generator of random finite multidimensional sequences with imposed covariance. Results obtained with the FIM are compared with those obtained by other classic methods: Shinozuka and Jan Method in 1D and Turning Bands Method in 2D and 3D, the points for and against different methodologies are discussed. Moreover, with the FIM the simulation of nested structures, one of which can be a nugget effect and the simulation of both zonal and geometric anisotropy is straightforward. All steps taken to implement the FIM methodology are discussed. 相似文献

We have theoretically considered the problem of interpretation of nutrient profiles in the upper ocean (100–2000m). We compare
the experimental depth profiles of nonconservative tracers, both stable and radioactive, with solutions of one-dimensional
steady state transport equations of increasing complexity including situations not encountered in the real oceans. Apart from
gaining insight into the nutrient transport processes, this analysis is useful in offering a way to obtain operational estimates
of depth dependent/independent eddy diffusivity and dissolution fluxes in the ocean. These parameters are essential for estimating
