Sangay (5230 m), the southernmost active volcano of the Andean Northern Volcanic Zone (NVZ), sits 130 km above a >32-Ma-old slab, close to a major tear that separates two distinct subducting oceanic crusts. Southwards, Quaternary volcanism is absent along a 1600-km-long segment of the Andes. Three successive edifices of decreasing volume have formed the Sangay volcanic complex during the last 500 ka. Two former cones (Sangay I and II) have been largely destroyed by sector collapses that resulted in large debris avalanches that flowed out upon the Amazon plain. Sangay III, being constructed within the last avalanche amphitheater, has been active at least since 14 ka BP. Only the largest eruptions with unusually high Plinian columns are likely to represent a major hazard for the inhabited areas located 30 to 100 km west of the volcano. However, given the volcano's relief and unbuttressed eastern side, a future collapse must be considered, that would seriously affect an area of present-day colonization in the Amazon plain, 30 km east of the summit. Andesites greatly predominate at Sangay, there being few dacites and basalts. In order to explain the unusual characteristics of the Sangay suite—highest content of incompatible elements (except Y and HREE) of any NVZ suite, low Y and HREE values in the andesites and dacites, and high Nb/La of the only basalt found—a preliminary five-step model is proposed: (1) an enriched mantle (in comparison with an MORB source), or maybe a variably enriched mantle, at the site of the Sangay, prior to Quaternary volcanism; (2) metasomatism of this mantle by important volumes of slab-derived fluids enriched in soluble incompatible elements, due to the subduction of major oceanic fracture zones; (3) partial melting of this metasomatized mantle and generation of primitive basaltic melts with Nb/La values typical of the NVZ, which are parental to the entire Sangay suite but apparently never reach the surface and subordinate production of high Nb/La basaltic melts, maybe by lower degrees of melting at the periphery of the main site of magma formation, that only infrequently reach the surface; (4) AFC processes at the base of a 50-km-thick crust, where parental melts pond and fractionate while assimilating remelts of similar basaltic material previously underplated, producing andesites with low Y and HREE contents, due to garnet stability at this depth; (5) low-pressure fractionation and mixing processes higher in the crust. Both an enriched mantle under Sangay prior to volcanism and an important slab-derived input of fluids enriched in soluble incompatible elements, two parameters certainly related to the unique setting of the volcano at the southern termination of the NVZ, apparently account for the exceptionally high contents of incompatible elements of the Sangay suite. In addition, the low Cr/Ni values of the entire suite—another unique characteristic of the NVZ—also requires unusual fractionation processes involving Cr-spinel and/or clinopyroxene, either in the upper mantle or at the base of the crust.  相似文献

在北苏鲁超高压变质带(UHPM)上开展了深反射地震的同时,进行了大地电磁、地磁、放射性测量和重磁编图.本文介绍用这些方法取得的结果.两条区域性的地球物理剖面总长126km,经过二维反演取得了电阻率和磁性体剖面.结果表明:(1)大地电磁等综合地球物理资料与深反射地震剖面的推断结果基本一致,同样反映了UHPM岩块的俯冲折返与后期的隆升.(2)非地震地球物理资料不仅为地震解释提供约束,还可以提供地热流上涌、断裂和磁性体分布等更多的信息.(3)新发现莒南-海州北北西向断裂,对研究本区构造演化有重要意义.(4)根据地热流上涌、侵入体多和高波速体埋藏较深等特征,认为在本区进行科学钻探不够理想.  相似文献

The present contribution summarizes the first results of a study focusing on microstructures from Alpi Apuane marbles. Its aim is both an analysis of the evolution of the metamorphic complex recorded in marbles and the supply of basic material for process-oriented studies on calcite microstructures due to natural deformation. Quantitative analysis of the variations of statically recrystallized microstructures suggest a relationship with the peak metamorphic temperatures. Previously unrecognized post-thermal peak shear zones, showing overprint microstructures typical of grain-boundary migration and dynamic recrystallization, are described; they document the natural deformation of Carrara marble.  相似文献

Recently observed features in the subsurface geology of the Haifa Bay area (northern Israel) have been evaluated using 3-D forward gravity and magnetic modeling and inversion schemes. The interpretation is based on updated petrophysical data of the Jurassic, Cretaceous and Tertiary sedimentary layers and volcanics. It has been shown that the Bouguer gravity anomalies correspond mainly to thickness variations in the Senonian to Tertiary sediments. The gravity effect of these sediments was calculated using their actual densities and structural setting as interpreted from seismic reflection data. This effect was removed from the Bouguer gravity in order to study the pre-Senonian geological structures. The pattern of residual gravity anomalies (named “stripped gravity”) is essentially different from the pattern of the Bouguer gravity. The prominent Carmel gravity high, clearly seen on the Bouguer gravity map, completely vanishes on the “stripped” gravity map. That suggests that this relatively positive anomaly is caused by the considerable thickness of the low-density young sediments in the surrounding areas and does not correspond to high-density magmatic rocks or crystalline basement uplift as previously suggested. The average densities of the Jurassic and Cretaceous volcanics are generally lower then those of the background sedimentary rocks. Volcanics are the main cause for magnetic anomalies onshore and offshore northern Israel. The magmatic root of the Asher volcanics is, most probably, located close to the Yagur fault. A large, deep-seated gabbroic intrusion is assumed to be located under the Mediterranean abyssal plain in the NW part of the study area. The Atlit marine gravity low appears to be caused by a thick Mesozoic and Tertiary sedimentary accumulation. The results presented should be of considerable assistance in delineating some aspects of hydrocarbon exploration in the area.  相似文献

The distributions of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in sediments of three Upper Triassic to Middle Jurassic sedimentary sequences from the Northern Carnarvon Basin, Australia have been investigated. Perylene was found to be a major PAH component in the top Lower to base Middle Jurassic sediments that are immature or at low maturity. Its depth/age profiles are not related to the combustion-derived PAHs that have been believed to be produced during ancient vegetation fires before deposition. This suggests a diagenetic origin for perylene. The concentration of perylene in the sediments is proportional to the amount of terrestrial input, decreasing with distance from the source of land sediments. Its carbon isotope composition is slightly heavier than higher-plant derived PAHs, but still in the range of the terrestrially sourced PAHs including higher-plant PAHs and combustion-derived PAHs as suggested previously. Fungi are proposed to be the major precursor carriers for perylene in sediments based on the facts that (1) perylenequinone structures have been previously suggested to be the natural precursors for perylene; (2) perylenequinone pigments exist in many fungal bodies; (3) fungi have played an important role during geological processes.  相似文献

基于中日合作项目“全球协调加强观测计划之亚澳季风青藏高原试验”(CAMP/Tibet)在藏北高原D105站、Amdo站、MS3478站以及BJ站的观测数据资料,分析了该地区地表反照率的时空分布特征。结果表明:藏北高原地区的地表反照率具有明显的日变化和月/季节变化特征。冬、春季的日变化曲线呈“U”形,且曲线形状的变化不如夏、秋季大。6~9月的月平均反照率在全年中最低,5月份月平均反照率波动较大。从季节平均值来说,冬季>春季>秋季>夏季。该地区的平均地表反照率为0.2457;反照率的空间分布很不均匀,其值的大小、曲线的形状在不同站点都很不一样,这与站点的地理位置有关,但天气状况和下垫面属性也起了很大的作用。  相似文献
