This paper presents a lake-level record established for the last millennium at Lake Saint-Point in the French Jura Mountains. A comparison of this lake-level record with a solar irradiance record supports the hypothesis of a solar forcing of variations in the hydrological cycle linked to climatic oscillations over the last millennium in west-central Europe, with higher lake levels during the solar minimums of Oort (around AD 1060), Wolf (around AD 1320), Spörer (around AD 1450), Maunder (around AD 1690), and Dalton (around AD 1820). Further comparisons of the Saint-Point record with the fluctuations of the Great Aletsch Glacier (Swiss Alps) and a record of Rhône River floods from Lake Bourget (French Alps) give evidence of possible imprints of proxy sensitivity on reconstructed paleohydrological records. In particular, the Great Aletsch record shows an increasing glacier mass from AD 1350 to 1850, suggesting a cumulative effect of the Little Ice Age cooling and/or a possible reflection of a millennial-scale general cooling until the mid-19th century in the Northern Hemisphere. In contrast, the Saint-Point and Bourget records show a general trend toward a decrease in lake levels and in flood magnitude anti-correlated with generally increasing solar irradiance.  相似文献

<正>Late Middle Triassic to early Late Triassic insects from Argentina have been previously described from the Bermejo and Cuyana Basins where they have been recovered from the Ischichuca-Los Rastros and Potrerillos-Cacheuta Formations,respectively.The insect fauna discussed herein was collected during field studies in 1986/1987 from the Llantenes section(Norian to Rhaetian? Late Triassic),which is situated in the Malargue Basin in southern Mendoza province.The insect remains were found in the upper part of the Llantenes section (Llantenes Formation),which is built up of two coarsening-upwards cycles reflecting a deltaic progradation of a fluvial into a lacustrine environment(lower part),succeeded by repeated progradations into a floodplain-dominated environment(upper part;with finds of insects,conchostracans,fish remains,plant fragments,and drifted logs).The new finds represent the youngest Triassic insect records described from Argentina and even from South America in its entirety.There is only one contemporaneous fossil assemblage in Gondwana:in the Clarence/Moreton Basin(Aberdare Conglomerate;Late Norian)in Australia.The new Triassic insects include an impression of an isolated Mecopterida-like wing(Mendozachorista volkheimeri gen.et sp.nov.; Mendozachoristidae fam.nov.),coleopteran elytra of the Permosynidae(Ademosyne rosenfeldi sp.nov.and Ademosyne llantenesensis sp.nov.)and other isolated body fragments.This new Late Triassic entomofauna from Argentina is of considerable importance in the reconstruction of the biotic recovery of continental environments in Gondwana after the catastrophic mass extinction at the P/T boundary.  相似文献

The relationship between long-lived deep crustal lineaments and the locations of magmatic centers and associated mineral deposits has been investigated in the Puna region of northwestern Argentina, through the analysis of regional aeromagnetic surveys, Landsat images, and geological information. The good exposure and excellent preservation of basement and supracrustal geology in this region makes it particularly suitable for such a study. At a regional scale, several contrasting magnetic domains are recognized, which correlate with crustal geology. Two basement domains are separated by a NNE-trending boundary, which is believed to correlate with a Paleozoic suture zone between the Pampia (to the southeast) and Arequipa–Antofalla terranes (to the northwest). Locally overlying these basement terranes is the Cenozoic magmatic domain, which is best developed in the N–S-trending volcanic arc at the western edge of the Puna (the Cordillera Occidental). In addition, four southeast-trending volcanic zones extend for several hundred kilometers across the Puna. Many important mineral deposits and areas of hydrothermal alteration are associated with these volcanic breakouts, and we have selected three such areas for more detailed study: Bajo de la Alumbrera (Argentina's largest porphyry copper deposit), Cerro Galán (the largest ignimbrite caldera in Argentina, with associated hydrothermal alteration zones), and El Queva (a historic polymetallic district located within a major volcanic range). A comparison of lineament maps generated from aeromagnetic and Landsat TM images reveals broad correlation between these different remote sensing techniques, which respectively highlight subsurface magnetic and surface geological features. In addition, the locations of magmatic and hydrothermal centers can be related to the interpreted structural framework, and are seen to occur near the intersections of major lineament zones. It is suggested that in three dimensions, such intersection zones form trans-lithospheric columns of low strength and high permeability during transpressional or transtensional tectonic strain, and may thereby serve as conduits for magma ascent to the shallow crust. Pooling of large volumes of deeply derived magma in shallow crustal magma chambers may then result in voluminous devolatilization and the formation of hydrothermal mineral deposits. It is important to note that in this model, structural intersections serve as facilitators for magma ascent and volatile exsolution, but do not in themselves cause this process—other factors such as magma supply rate and tectonic stress are essential primary ingredients, and local magmatic and volcanic processes affect the ultimate potential for ore formation. Nevertheless, we suggest that lineament analysis provides a valuable framework for guiding the early stages of mineral exploration; other regional and local geological considerations must then be applied to identify priority targets within this framework.  相似文献

Este estudio de caso muestra una metodología para obtener el máximo valor geocientífico de datos aeromagnéticos regionales (espaciamiento entre líneas: 1000 m), a través de su integración con imágenes satelitarias de alta resolución. En este estudio, la interpretación litoestratigráfica de las imágenes Landsat TM a escala regional (1:100,000) ha sido llevada a cabo como precursor de la interpretación geofísica, proveyendo el marco geológico-estructural de base para el análisis de las imágenes geofísicas. Este marco geológico-estructural derivado de las imágenes Landsat muestra las posiciones y vergencias correctas de las estructuras mayores; en este marco, las ubicaciones de las anomalías aeromagnéticas mayores de origen somero relacionadas con rocas extrusivas y subvolcánicas intermedias/máficas, como así también de las estructuras que controlan estos eventos magmáticos de importancia económica, pueden ser correctamente interpretadas.Los resultados del estudio indican la existencia de un centro volcánico/subvolcánico no reconocido previamente, de edad post-pérmica y pre-miocena, probablemente asociado con fallamiento regional transcurrente sinistral desarrollado a lo largo de una sutura acrecional norte-sur reactivada y a una estructura preexistente del basamento precámbrico/paleozoico. El subsecuente evento de corrimientos de tipo ‘piel gruesa’ y vergencia oeste al que está asociado el ascenso del bloque precámbrico de la Sierra de Valle Fértil, desarrolló un distintivo juego de fallas transcurrentes de orientación NO–SE en el área del centro volcánico. Estas estructuras de orientación NO–SE cortan y rotan a estructuras miocenas tardías correspondientes a la tectónica de tipo ‘piel fina’ de la faja plegada y corrida de la Precordillera. Las rocas intrusivas asociadas con el centro volcánico de edad oligocena inferida, forman anomalías dipolares parcialmente remanentes fácilmente reconocibles, están asociadas con alteración y mineralización de oro (minas Cerro Guachi, El Pescado, Gral. Belgrano) y están ubicadas a lo largo de fallas ‘en cola de caballo’ sinistrales de orientación NO–SE. Este evento tectónico-magmático relacionado con la deformación transcurrente es considerado como oligoceno y puede estar relacionado con la convergencia oblicua oligocena y la mineralización de pórfiros de esta misma edad en Chile.  相似文献

In this paper new and previously published data on the Pleistocene glacial impact on the NW European margin from Ireland to Svalbard (between c. 48°N–80°N) are compiled. The morphology of the glaciated part of the European margin strongly reflects repeated occurrence of fast-moving ice streams, creating numerous glacial troughs/channels that are separated by shallow bank areas. End-moraines have been identified at several locations on the shelf, suggesting shelf-edge glaciation along the major part of the margin during the Last Glacial Maximum. Deposition of stacked units of glacigenic debris flows on the continental slope form fans at a number of locations from 55°N and northwards, whereas the margin to the south of this is characterised by the presence of submarine canyons. Glaciation curves, based primarily on information from the glacial fed fan systems, that depict the Pleistocene trends in extent of glaciations along the margin have been compiled. These curves suggest that extensive shelf glaciations started around Svalbard at 1.6–1.3 Ma, while repeated periods of shelf-edge glaciations on the UK margin started with MIS 12 (c. 0.45 Ma). The available evidence for MIS 2 suggest that shelf-edge glaciation for the whole margin was reached between c. 28 and 22 14C ka BP and maximum positions after this were more limited in some regions (North Sea and Lofoten). The last glacial advance on the margin has been dated to 15–13.5 14C ka BP, and by c. 13 14C ka BP the shelf areas were completely deglaciated. The Younger Dryas (Loch Lomond) advance reached the coastal areas in only a few regions.  相似文献

The August 1991 eruption of the Hudson volcano in the southern Andean volcanic zone affected an area of 1000 km in radius to the east in the Argentine Patagonic meseta. The thickness of ash ranged from 20 cm in the Andean area to less than 1 mm in the Atlantic coast zone. Wind storms reactivated the ash deposits, together with terrigenous material, more than one year after the eruption. In order to assess the potential risk of the ash, analyses of concentration, size, mineralogical composition, toxic elements, and irritating effects of gases were performed. In all samples, the percentage of particles of the 2-to 5-m range is below the toxic threshold level. Trace elements are below the toxic threshold concentration for humans and animals. The major impact of the ashfall was on sheep herds; about one third of them were lost in the areas close to the volcano. Soil incorporated the ash layers, and a fast recovery of orchards was reported two years later. Rivers were loaded with sediment in the immediate aftermath, but one year later returned to previous conditions. Along the shores of the Buenos Aires Lake, a fresh tephra layer can be distinguished.  相似文献

The Pleistocene charophytes from Arroyo Perucho Verna, Province of Entre Ríos, were analyzed.Chara contraria Br. ex Kütz.,C. contraria var.longilinea Cáceres,C. globularis Thuill. andTolypella intricata (Trent. ex Roth.) Leonh. var.apiculata (A. Br.) Wood were described and illustrated with scanning electron microscope. The assemblage indicates fresh alkaline to slightly saline waters, not very deep, in a lentic or sometimes lotic environment. Extant assemblages provide data for this paleoecological reconstruction.This is the sixth in a series of papers published in this issue on Paleolimnology in Southern South America. Dr. C. A. Rivers and streams originating in the surrounding mountainous area are the major sources of salt in the Salinas Grandes basin (Córdoba, Argentina). These rivers infiltrate when they reach the sandflat or in the fringes of the mudflat, feeding springs which often form shallow lakes. Presently, the lakes are distant from the playa edge, thus allowing inflow waters to dissolve ancient (Pleistocene?) evaporite beds. In the sandflat environment, two dominant types of water have been recognized (SO 4 2? -Cl?-HCO 3 ? -Na+, and Cl?-SO 4 2? -HCO 3 2? -Na+), both considered as original members of the brine in the saline complex. Two main sources of solutes were distinguished, one related to the waters supplied by the southern sector and another to waters of the eastern sector. As a result of the chemical evolution in the playa environment, all brines belong to the neutral type (Cl?-SO 4 2? -Na+). Following Hardie and Eugster's (1970) model, waters from the southern sector should evolve towards an alkaline brine (Cl?-SO 4 2? -HCO 3 ? -Na+), whereas those from to the eastern sector should evolve towards a neutral one (Cl?-SO 4 2? -Na+). A computer simulation was carried out to model the chemical evolution of source waters. The results obtained by this methodology showed the same dichotomy (alkaline vs. neutral) established by Hardie and Eugster's (1970) model. The deficit in alkalinity could not be explained by any of the mechanisms published until now. Gypsum dissolution is the most likely mechanism which accounts for the chemical evolution of the waters investigated. When such a process is included in the computations, the Ca2+ supplied by gypsum beds generates an increase in the ion activity product (aCa+2·aCO 3 2? ) and produces a significant change in the 2Ca+2/(2CO 3 2? +HCO 3 ? ) ratio, switching from values less than 1 to values greater than 1. This process determines the precipitation of calcite, and leads to a decrease in alkalinity, which in turn would explain the existence of a neutral brine in the saline complex. An intermediate salinity brine was detected in the mudflat, which, according to the model (Hardie and Eugster, 1970), should evolve towards a SO 4 2? -free neutral brine (Cl?-Na+-Ca2+). The absence of this type of brine may be explained through mixing processes.  相似文献

The Maastrichtian–Danian limestones of the Yacoraite Formation (northwestern Argentina) show carbon and oxygen isotopic values consistent with shallow marine conditions. The members of the formation respond to different sedimentary environments and are characterised by distinctive stable isotopes and geochemistry. The basal Amblayo Member is composed of high-energy dolomitic limestones and limestones with positive isotopic values (+2‰ δ13C, +2‰ δ18O). The top of the member reveals an isotopic shift of δ13C (−5‰) and δ18O (−10‰), probably related to a descent in the sea level. The sandy Güemes Member has isotopically negative (−2‰ δ13C, −1‰ δ18O) limestones, principally controlled by water mixing, decreased organic productivity, and compositional changes in the carbonates. The isotopically lighter limestones are calcitic, with a greater terrigenous contribution and different geochemical composition (high Si–Mn–Fe–Na, low Ca–Mg–Sr). These isotopic and lithological changes relate to the Cretaceous–Palaeogene transition. The Alemanía Member, composed of dolomitic limestones and pelites, represents a return to marine conditions and shows a gradual increase in isotopic values, reaching values similar to those of the Amblayo Member. The Juramento Member, composed of stromatolite limestones, shows isotopic variations that can be correlated with the two well-defined, shallowing-upward sequences of the member.  相似文献
