ABSTRACT

This paper presents hydrochemical data of an AMD stream, Poderosa Creek, in the Iberian Pyrite Belt, obtained between its source, in the Poderosa Mine portal, and its confluence with the Odiel River. The main objective is to establish potential interdependent relationships between sulphate and metal loads and the following physico-chemical variables: pH, electrical conductivity (EC), redox potential (EH) and dissolved oxygen (DO). All the parameters show an overall increasing tendency from the tunnel exit to the confluence at the Odiel River. The TDS and EC are two relevant exceptions. They behave similarly, showing a decreasing trend and a strong inflection that describes a minimum immediately after the discharging point. Spatial analysis combined with statistical tools reveal typical AMD processes and the respective physico-chemical implications. Inputs with distinctive hydrochemical signatures impose relevant modifications in the Poderosa Creek waters. This indicates low hydrochemical inertia and high vulnerability to external stimuli.

The metamorphosed mafic rocks of Archean greenstone belts host major orogenic gold deposits, and may record information about changing pressure–temperature (PT) conditions that could contribute to understanding of Archean geodynamic processes. Until recently, it was difficult to obtain good constraints on pressure and temperature from these rocks. Here we present results of PT pseudosection calculations in the NCFMASHTOS (Na2O–CaO–FeO–MgO–Al2O3–SiO2–H2O–TiO2–O–SO2) system, using as an example typical amphibolite facies metabasaltic rocks from the Plutonic Gold Mine in the Neoarchean Plutonic Well Greenstone Belt (PWGB), Marymia Inlier, Western Australia. The pseudosections together with observed mineral compositions and mineral assemblages in the rocks are used to argue that a previously unrecognized steep pressure increase (from ~3–4 kbar at ~500 °C to ≥8 kbar at ~600 °C) accompanied metamorphism to peak temperatures. The P–T data presented here could be the result of either horizontal or vertical tectonics. Existing models for the early evolution of the PWGB involve nappe stacking supported by relatively cold strong crust, with little overall change in thickness. While the available evidence from the study area and the wider region is not yet sufficient to confirm whether the peak metamorphic conditions were attained by horizontal or vertical tectonic means, the PT data presented here can provide region‐specific constraints for computer modelling that may provide a more definite answer in the future.  相似文献

Globally arsenic (As) is a ubiquitous trace element derived from the natural weathering of As-bearing rock. With the onset of reducing conditions, the prevalence of aqueous As(III) may be intensified through biotic and abiotic processes. Here we evaluate the stability of arsenic bearing Ca–Fe hydroxide phases collected from exposed tailings at Ketza River mine, Yukon, Canada, during the reductive dissolution of both acid treated and untreated samples by Shewanella putrefaciens 200R and Shewanella sp. ANA-3. Samples were acid treated in order to remove Ca–Fe oxide coatings and evaluate the influence of these coatings on the rates of microbial Fe(III) and As(V) reduction. Environmental scanning electron microscope (ESEM) micrographs of the solid phase show significant differences in the chemistry and physical morphology of the material by the bacteria over time and are especially evident in the acid treated samples. Moreover, while solution chemistry showed similar As(III) respiration rates of the inoculated acid treated samples for both ANA3 and 200R at ~ 1.1 × 10−6 μM·s− 1·m− 2, the Fe(II) respiration rates differed at 1.4 × 10− 7 and 9.5 × 10− 8 μM·s− 1·m−2 respectively, thus suggesting strain specific metal reduction metabolic pathways Additionally, the enhanced metal reduction observed in the acid treated inoculated samples suggests that the presence of the Ca–Fe hydroxide phase in the untreated samples acted as a barrier, inhibiting the bacteria from accessing the metals. This has implications for increased mobilization of metals by metal reducing bacteria within areas of increased acidity, such as acid mine drainage sites and industrial tailings ponds that can come into contact with surface and ground water sources.  相似文献

坞石垄岩体位于江南造山带与下扬子台坳接合部,沿江南深断裂侵入,岩性由花岗闪长岩和二长花岗岩构成的杂岩体,系燕山晚期同源岩浆不同演化阶段的产物。岩石类型属同熔型花岗岩,具有高硅、富铝、偏碱岩石化学特征,为过铝质钙碱性花岗岩类。与周边同类型太平岩体、洪田都岩体、旌德岩体等相比,Mo、W元素丰度值高。中型规模的萌坑钼矿产于坞石垄岩体中,具有一定的找矿前景。  相似文献

In 1977, Taylor proposed a constant elasticity model relating capacity choice in mines to reserves. A test of this model using a very large (n = 1,195) dataset confirms its validity but obtains significantly different estimated values for the model coefficients. Capacity is somewhat inelastic with respect to reserves, with an elasticity of 0.65 estimated for open-pit plus block-cave underground mines and 0.56 for all other underground mines. These new estimates should be useful for capacity determinations as scoping studies and as a starting point for feasibility studies. The results are robust over a wide range of deposit types, deposit sizes, and time, consistent with physical constraints on mine capacity that are largely independent of technology.  相似文献
