Diversity of faunal assemblages associated with ribbed mussel beds along the South American coast: relative roles of biogeography and bioengineering

Benthic organisms are among the most diverse and abundant in the marine realm, and some species are a key factor in studies related to bioengineering. However, their importance has not been well noted in biogeographic studies. Macrofaunal assemblages associated with subtidal beds of the ribbed mussel (Aulacomya atra) along South America were studied to assess the relationship between their diversity patterns and the proposed biogeographic provinces in the Southeastern Pacific and Southwestern Atlantic Oceans. Samples from ribbed mussel beds were obtained from 10 sites distributed from the Peruvian coast (17°S) to the Argentinean coast (41°S). The sampling included eight beds in the Pacific and two in the Atlantic and the collections were carried out using five 0.04 m2 quadrants per site. Faunal assemblages were assessed through classification analyses using binary and log‐transformed abundance data. Variation in the size and density of mussels, and in the species richness, abundance and structure of their faunal assemblages were tested using a permutational multivariate analysis of variance. Faunal assemblages showed a north–south latitudinal gradient along both the Pacific and Atlantic coasts. Binary and abundance data showed a difference in the resulting clustering arrangement of Pacific sites between 40°S and 44°S, indicating a pattern of continuity in the species distribution associated with biological substrates. At a regional scale, the distribution of species along the South American coast matched the general provincial pattern shown by prior studies, which show two biogeographic units on the Pacific coast separated by an intermediate (probably transitional) zone and a single province on the Atlantic coast extending up to Northern Argentina. Biological substrates such as ribbed mussel beds play an important ecological role by making a similar habitat type available on a large scale for a variety of invertebrate species. Despite such habitat homogeneity, however, the associated fauna exhibit marked distribution breaks, suggesting strong constraints on dispersal. This paper describes the influence of volcanic ash on the concentrations and occurrences of associated elements in coal in the Zhijin Coalfield in western Guizhou Province, China. Our studies reveal that the No. 9 coal seam in the Zhijin Coalfield has very high content of Fe (4.34%), Cu (369.90 μg/g), U (49.6 μg/g), Mo (63.10 μg/g), Zn (33.97 μg/g), and Zr (841.80 μg/g). The studies have also found that elements, such as Fe and Cu, do not occur as sulfides in this coal seam, in sharp contrast to many other coal seams in China. The geochemical and mineralogical anomalies of the coal seam are attributed to synsedimentary volcanic ash. In addition to normal macerals and minerals in coal, a volcanic-influenced material (VIM) derived from volcanic ash, detrital material of terrigenous origin and organic matter was identified under polarized-light reflectance microscopy and scanning electron microscopy equipped with energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) analyzer. The volcanic-influenced material is the main carrier of the above elements in this coal. Six types of the volcanic-influenced material (VIM-1, VIM-2, VIM-3, VIM-4, VIM-5, and VIM-6) are further distinguished on the basis of their structures and compositions. A unified approach to the Clenshaw summation and the recursive computation of very high degree and order normalised associated Legendre functions 总被引:11,自引:7,他引:11
Spherical harmonic expansions form partial sums of fully normalised associated Legendre functions (ALFs). However, when evaluated
increasingly close to the poles, the ultra-high degree and order (e.g. 2700) ALFs range over thousands of orders of magnitude.
This causes existing recursion techniques for computing values of individual ALFs and their derivatives to fail. A common
solution in geodesy is to evaluate these expansions using Clenshaw's method, which does not compute individual ALFs or their
derivatives. Straightforward numerical principles govern the stability of this technique. Elementary algebra is employed to
illustrate how these principles are implemented in Clenshaw's method. It is also demonstrated how existing recursion algorithms
for computing ALFs and their first derivatives are easily modified to incorporate these same numerical principles. These modified
recursions yield scaled ALFs and first derivatives, which can then be combined using Horner's scheme to compute partial sums,
complete to degree and order 2700, for all latitudes (except at the poles for first derivatives). This exceeds any previously
published result. Numerical tests suggest that this new approach is at least as precise and efficient as Clenshaw's method.
However, the principal strength of the new techniques lies in their simplicity of formulation and implementation, since this
quality should simplify the task of extending the approach to other uses, such as spherical harmonic analysis.

浅海型海底热液活动一般出现于海底火山顶部或者翼部,其所处的特殊地理位置是深海热液活动和陆上热泉的过渡地形。研究浅海型海底热液活动使我们更全面了解地球内部热量的缓慢散发形式。目前浅海型热液活动研究多侧重于流体、伴生气体、沉积物等方面:对于流体研究主要通过流体元素特征探讨流体源,虽然浅海热液活动流体在海底喷出,但流体主要组分有时是海水,有时是陆上大气水—海水只是作为少部分加入其中。对于伴生气体的研究表明:热液喷出时伴生气体组分多是火山气来源,火山气的加入导致热液流体酸性增强,使热液流体较容易淅沥出围岩中的元素,因此尽管浅海型热液流体流经路程短,但是流体中依然包含了较多物质,从而在海底表面沉淀沉积物,甚至可以形成烟囱体,由此可见浅海型热液活动与火山活动紧密相关。对于沉积物的研究显示浅海热液活动产生的沉积物组分简单,也有像深海热液活动中烟囱状沉积体的形成。沉积物对周围水域中元素浓度起到积极影响,如Fe、As含量等,这是热液流体与海水相互作用的结果。
现代浅海型热液活动往往出现于近海岸处,距离人类生活较深海热液活动更加接近,所以浅海热液活动对周围环境影响的深度及广度应该成为下一步研究重点。 相似文献

本文作者用美国NRAO,GreenBank43m和中国科学院紫金山天文台德令哈13.7m射电望远镜,对新近发现的水616—523脉泽相隔约1年的三次观测结果作了本地静止标准速度时变的研究,在分析实测结果时采用了参量LSR速度延展(Vspd),相继两历元观测的谱征峰值速度极差(DV)和速度位移(DV).结果表明可将分析样本归纳为两类:A类,微弱多数样本的速度时变给出的谱征位移显示脉泽结的替代效应.这种情况是在观测波束内存在若干未分解的脉泽斑引起的,主要受制于共同激发源的简单运动;B类,余下的样本给出较大的速度极差,呈现脉泽结整体的运动,涉及激发源的加速和减速以及抽运机制. 相似文献
