Assessing the ferric-ferrous ratio in magmas prior to eruption remains a challenging task. X-ray absorption near-edge structure (μXANES) spectra were collected at the iron K-edge in water-rich peralkaline silicic melt/glass inclusions trapped in quartz. These experiments were carried out between 800 and 20 °C. The chemical environment of iron was also determined in the naturally quenched samples (glass inclusions and matrix glass) and in the peralkaline rhyolitic reference glasses, with variable [Fe3+ / ∑Fe] ratios.In the reference glasses, both the intensity of the pre-peaks (Fe2+, Fe3+) and site geometry of iron change as the oxidation state increases. Fourfold-coordinated Fe3+ prevails in highly oxidised peralkaline silicic glasses, using alkalis for charge balance. The position of the pre-edge centroid of the 1s-3d transition correlates with the Fe3+ / ΣFe ratios that allowed calibration of the redox state of iron of our natural samples.At high temperatures, Fe2+ dominates in the pre-edge structure of melt inclusions. Upon cooling down to 20 °C, the intensity of the Fe3+ peak increases, the centroid position of the pre-edge features shifts by nearly 0.5 eV and the main edge moves slightly towards higher energies. The slower the cooling rate, the higher the ferric iron contribution. Iterative μXANES experiments performed on the same samples show that the process is reversible. However, this apparent oxidation of iron upon cooling is an artefact of changes in Fe coordination. It implies that the [Fe3+ / ΣFe] ratio of glassy samples, measured at 20 °C, may be overestimated by a factor > 1.7, and that this ratio cannot be reliably retrieved by probing naturally cooled glass inclusions, and most silicate glasses. High temperature μXANES experiments led first to an assessment of the ferric-ferrous ratio in the water-rich peralkaline melt in pre-eruptive magmatic conditions and second to the determination of the corresponding oxygen fugacity at 740 °C.  相似文献

Volcanic ash layers in sediment cores are valuable geochronological markers in paleolimnological research. The composition of volcanic glass is related to identifiable, chronologically distinctive volcanic eruptions. Consequently, tephra layers provide time horizons allowing regional-scale correlations for lake sediments. Volcanic glass is often present in samples routinely prepared by paleolimnologists such as diatom slides and thin sections. Knowledge of the morphological and optical properties of volcanic glass allows for its identification. This is essential for the identification of ash layers that are not macroscopically visible or to track their vertical migration in soft organic sediments. The purposes of this note are to: (1) describe how the morphological (i.e., shape, vesicularity) and optical (i.e., refractive index and birefringence) properties can be used to identify volcanic glass in preparations from lake sediments; and (2) show how the quantification of volcanic glass from diatom slides is used to quantify the density-induced displacement of a 4.5 cm-thick Mazama ash-layer through organic sediments and to approximate its timing of initial deposition.  相似文献

Two very high-frequency radars (VHFR) operating on the Opal coast of eastern English Channel provided a nearly continuous 35-day long dataset of surface currents over a 500 km2 area at 0.6–1.8 km resolution. Argo drifter tracking and CTD soundings complemented the VHFR observations, which extended approximately 25 km offshore. The radar data resolve three basic modes of the surface velocity variation in the area, that are driven by tides, winds and freshwater fluxes associated with seasonal river discharge. The first mode, accounting for 90% of variability, is characterized by an along-shore flow pattern, whereas the second and third modes exhibit cross-shore, and eddy-like structures in the current velocity field. All the three modes show the dominant semi-diurnal variability and low-frequency modulation by the neap-spring tidal cycle. Although tidal forcing provides the major contribution to variability of local currents, baroclinicity plays an important role in shaping the 3D velocity field averaged over the tidal cycle and may strongly affect tracer dynamics on larger time scales. An empirical orthogonal function (EOF) decomposition and a spectral rotary analysis of the VHFR data reveal a discontinuity in the velocity field occurring approximately 10 km offshore which was caused by the reversal in the sign of rotation of the current vector. This feature of local circulation is responsible for surface current convergence on ebb, divergence on flood and strong oscillatory vertical motion. Spectral analysis of the observed currents and the results of the Agro drifter tracking indicate that the line of convergence approximately follows the 30-m isobath. The most pronounced feature of the radar-derived residual circulation is the along-coast intensification of surface currents with velocity magnitude of 0.25 m/s typical for the Regions of Freshwater Influence (ROFI). The analysis has provided a useful, exploratory examination of surface currents, suggesting that the circulation off the Opal coast is governed by ROFI dynamics on the hypertidal background.  相似文献

Eleven synthetic silicate and phosphate glasses were prepared to serve as reference materials for in situ microanalysis of clinopyroxenes, apatite and titanite, and other phosphate and titanite phases. Analytical results using different micro-analytical techniques showed that the glass fragments were homogeneous in major and trace elements down to the micrometre scale. Trace element determinations using inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), multi-collector inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (MC-ICP-MS), laser-ablation inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) and secondary ionisation mass spectrometry (SIMS) showed good agreement for most elements (Li, Be, B, Cs, Rb, Ba, Sr, Ga, Pb, U, Th, Y, La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Er, Tm, Yb, Lu, Zr, Hf, Ta, Nb) studied and provide provisional recommended values.  相似文献

利用2003-2012年兰州市月均空气污染指数API和季节性时间序列模型SARIMA,对数据序列进行拟合并对其变化趋势进行了分析,研究其演变趋势并选取空气质量良好(月平均API150)的月份(2012年6月2013年2月),选用时间序列模型ARIMA(1,1,1)进行拟合,再结合残差控制图,对2013年3月日平均API预测监控。结果表明,SARIM A(0,1,1)×(0,1,1)12模型较好的拟合了近10年兰州市API的变化趋势,兰州市的空气污染大致呈冬、春季污染相对较重,夏、秋季相对较轻,空气质量总体在逐渐好转。适合该地区短时间尺度的时间序列模型是ARIMA(1,1,1),结合残差控制图对2013年3月API进行预测监控,结果显示6,9,10,11,12和13日超出控制限,对6日和9日提出预警。预测结果与实际结果相吻合,证实了将时间序列模型与残差控制图结合预测监控大气污染的有效性。  相似文献

In this paper,we analyze lithospheric density distribution of China and surrounding regions on the basis of 300300gravity data and 1 1 P-wave velocity data.Firstly,we used the empirical equation between the density and the P-wave velocity difference as the base of the initial model of the Asian lithospheric density.Secondly,we calculated the gravity anomaly,caused by the Moho discontinuity and the sedimentary layer discontinuity,by the Parker formula.Thirdly,the gravity anomaly of the spherical harmonics with 2e40 order for the anomalous body below the lithosphere is calculated based on the model of EGM96.Finally,by using Algebra Reconstruction Techniques(ART),the inversion of 300300residual lithospheric Bouguer gravity anomaly caused by the lithosphere yields a rather detailed structural model.The results show that the lithospheric density distribution of China and surrounding regions has a certain connection with the tectonic structure.The density is relatively high in the Philippine Sea plate,Japan Sea,the Indian plate,the Kazakhstan shield and the Western Siberia plain,whereas the Tibetan Plateau has low-density characteristics.The minimum value of density lies in the north of Philippines,in the Taiwan province and in the Ryukyu island arc.  相似文献

龙凤山气田属于典型的裂缝性储层,钻井过程中漏失问题突出。该气田地层压力系数低、气层活跃、井壁稳定性差,固井难度较大。针对本区块特点,强化固井工艺措施,做好钻完井过程的防漏、承压堵漏工作,优选完井方法,采用变排量顶替工艺技术,开展低密度水泥浆体系优选研究,合理设计浆柱结构,有效地解决了固井过程中的漏失和候凝期间气窜等问题,保证了固井质量,实现了油层的有效封固,现场应用效果良好。  相似文献

The paper focuses on the redistribution of aerosol particles (APs) during the artificial nucleation and subsequent growth of ice crystals in a supercooled cloud. A significant number of the supercooled cloud droplets during icing periods (seeding agents: C3H8, CO2) did not freeze as was presumed prior to the experiment but instead evaporated. The net mass flux of water vapour from the evaporating droplets to the nucleating ice crystals (Bergeron–Findeisen mechanism) led to the release of residual particles that simultaneously appeared in the interstitial phase. The strong decrease of the droplet residuals confirms the nucleation of ice particles on seeding germs without natural aerosol particles serving as ice nuclei. As the number of residual particles during the seedings did not drop to zero, other processes such as heterogeneous ice nucleation, spontaneous freezing, entrainment of supercooled droplets and diffusion to the created particle-free ice germs must have contributed to the experimental findings. During the icing periods, residual mass concentrations in the condensed phase dropped by a factor of 1.1–6.7, as compared to the unperturbed supercooled cloud. As the Bergeron–Findeisen process also occurs without artificial seeding in the atmosphere, this study demonstrated that the hydrometeors in mixed-phase clouds might be much cleaner than anticipated for the simple freezing process of supercooled droplets in tropospheric mid latitude clouds.  相似文献
